Hang in there Millie- me and "the girls" are praying for you
-
Glad to hear Millie came through the op okay. Was it Animal Clinic that is caring for Millie? If so, John is superb and he quite often stays the night with critical animals. he did that a few times for us with our Collies. When the bushfires were down in the Valley they had John on the news treating the injured Wildlife and "Phoebe" sat in front of the TV and kept looking to me as if to say "there is Uncle John". Who says dogs can't make out things hey Keep fighting Miss Millie. You are in my daily prayers girl, as is your Mum and Nikki

No worries Willow I have learnt what I can and cannot eat. Steer clear of anything high in fat, high in lactose and anything with pices in it. Once Clostridium has attacked the bowel etc it takes quite a few weeks for it to go back to "normal". Did the Vet put your furkid on Metrogyl(metronidazole) and also some low dose prednislone? That is usually the standard treatment, even in humans( I know as I am on a course now as had an IBD Flare-up recently)

Thinking of you, your Mum and Millie Positive vibes sent that all has gone well and continues to do so
-
RIP Lucy It is awful when anyone of our loved ones, human or furkids, have to go to the Rainbow Bridge. Having recently lost my Hero Dad whom I cared for 24/7, and I stayed with him until God called him Home holding his hand, I know what you are going through.Knowing I could not "fix him" made it all that much harder I have too lost a young pup at 9mths. Lucy will always be with you

Healing vibes and prayers coming Millie's way .I know how much Millie means to both you and Mum. It occurs in Collies too as they too have a deep chest. Please keep us updated and if you want to offload email me [email protected]

Get him on a good Human Grade Probiotic and also slippery elm bark powder on his food everyday. I take a Probiotic Capsule with my breakfast and one Slippery Elm Bark Capsule three times a day with food. Clostridium can re-occur, even in Humans. I would steer well clear of feeding him anything that you don't know where/how it has been cooked( eg bbq chooks from the chicken shop- they are notorious from carrying bugs like clostridium) If I want to feed my girls cooked chook I cook it myself and same goes if I want cooked chook for me I roast one.
-
My pleasure Chuckie500- let us know how you get on at the Vet's .Praying it is nothing serious
-
Yep food Clostridium will do that- I know from personal experience
-
did you tell the receptionist that this has been going on for a few days? they might get you in sooner if you do

Could be Inflammatory Bowel Disease- NOT to be confused with Irriatable Bowel Syndrome Your Vet needs to do at least a faecal float and analysis and see what that shows up and then decide if a referral to an Internal Medicine Specialist is warranted. To test for IBD the dog goes under GA and has endoscopes done and biopsies are taken and sent off to pathology. I know as I have had one dog with it and I have the same condition myself.
-
I had a Collie with similar many years ago, it was called Hypoplasia.Removed under GA and sent of for biopsy- all clear
-
Yes I would go to the Vet and soon. Dogs can dehydrate very quickly and IMHO if it hasn't cleared up within 24 hrs it needs to be investigated. Try, if you can , to take a poop sample to the Vets and ask for a faecel float and analysis to be done.

sorry for your losses As I own an Ivermectin sensitive breed( Rough Collies) and had them DNA Tested to confirm they are Affected the only heartworm Prevenative I use is DIMMITROL DAILY tablets.Much cheaper than all the other stuff and they are only geeting 1 tablet daily with their main meal. I have seen the dogs that have reacted even to Heartgard etc. My own Collie back in 1989 vomitted up blood after one tablet. As for Vaccinations I use the NOBIVAC 3 yearly vaccine for Distemper/Parvo/Hepatitis and Nobivac Intranasal KC annually. My girls reacted to the old C5( huge lumps at the injection site) so I did my research and Nobivac was the choice . I also will use alternative treatments is I think it it warranted

Shellbyville, that was beautiful too. Cancer is such a cruel disease and it is so prevalent on Mum's side of the family. Mum was one of six children and three , including Mum, have all died with Cancer and her other brother has had part of an organ removed due to Cancer and Mum's nephew died 8.1.2008 aged 28 with Cancer Wednesday- your words are so beautiful. Thank you all, my wonderful DOL Family I haven't really had time to grieve Dad properly as I had to find myself a job to keep"his house"( the house was in his and my names but Dad had said to me months ago that this was the happiest he had been since Mum passed away). I think Dad knew his time was near to go to God as he said to me about a week before God called him Home" I don't care how you do it but you fight like bloody hell to keep that house of mine, I love it". All of our long time family friends were calling in to see him( which they could not do when we lived in Gippsland). Cancer took both my Mum and my Dad. Mum was only 68 yo in 2003 when she passed away( Dad was 12 years older than Mum). Dad's Cancer and other health problems were all war-caused. I will always call him my Hero as he, like many other young brave Men, falsified his birth certificate ( he was only 15 but changed it to 18yo ) to go and "fight for His Country. Yes dogsbesotted a very special man indeed and my Mum was the same. They were engaged for 5 years and married for 46 years before Mum passed away, so they were together for 51 years, through the good times and they bad but they always worked through their issues.

Farewell Lucinda 19/8/1997 - 28/2/2009
InspectorRex replied to dogbesotted's topic in Rainbow Bridge
Helen, my thoughts are with you on the passing of Lucinda. She has probably found my Dad at the Bridge( he passed on 14.1.2009) and he will look after her -
I can finally write about the sudden passing of my Hero Dad, Bill, who passed away suddenly with me at his side on 14.1.2009 Dad, I was priviledged and blessed to be your daughter. Mum, you and I were the best of friends and we all shared the love of our Collies and spent many happy days on outings with them. I promised you all along that I would fight the battle with you and you fought like bloody hell but the Cancer just became so aggressive in the last 2 weeks of your life. Even in your last few days when you could no longer talk you suprised even the Professor be reciting The Lord's Prayer word for word when the Church Minister came into see you and pray with you and I. I am so glad we moved from Gipplsand so you had access to far superior medical facilities and professionals. I am so glad I had you moved from South Eastern Private Hospital to Peninsula Private Hospital. They not only looked after you with compassion but provided me and my wonderful Aunt, Dorelle, with beds, 3 meals a day- nothing was too much trouble. Everyone that you met in your life loved you and you loved them.Same as with Mum. I was blessed to have both of you as parents. On your last day here you would not close your eyes and I knew why. When I asked you "are your frightened?" you nodded your head vigourously. I am so glad I stayed with you 24/7 and that Aunty Dorelle with with us too. When I thought you had gone to God the nurse checked you and said" No he is still fighting like a real soldier". I held your hand to the end and when God did call you Home you went peacefully and took a huge hunk of my heart with you. The professional photos of "your girls" were buried with you, just as you had requested Your two "girls" "Phoebe" and "Gracie" miss their "RooRooPoppy" very much and they both go into your room everyday looking for you. Dad, I hope you have found Mum at the Rainbow Bridge and all of your beloved Collies "Brodie", "Fergie", "Maggie", "Bundy"- our rescue Collie. You and Mum will always be beside me to guide me through life. You both brought me up with kindness and love and I was priviledged to be able to care for both of you when your health declined. Till we meet again at the Rainbow Bridge. Your everloving daughter Colleen and "your girls"- "Phoebe" and "Gracie" xoxoxoxox EFS

Mainly Kibble Only Diet, What Do People Think?
InspectorRex replied to snr's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I did the barf thing and all the dogs got food poisoning. I feed Californatural Natural Chicken and Rice( they have other flavours and also low fat kibble). It comes from USA and it is NOT irridated(I have that comfirmed it writing by the makers). It has all the nutrional supplements the dogs need and they love it. For a super premuim food it is not too expensive either. I buy the 9.3kgs for $75.00 and that feeds two adult Collies for 5 weeks and the only other food they get is diced and boiled skinless chicken breast fillets for treats, Their coats are so glossy and they are a healthy weight( ie have a waistline and can feel ribs) Whatever works best for your dogs is the best thing to feed them IMHO -
Any Excellent Physios/chiros In Melbourne Inner Se?
InspectorRex replied to megan_'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Dr Ray Ferguson at Monash Vet Clinic in Clayton or Dr Barry Haywood in Cranbourne are both very good. Nioole L- where are you located as I am interested in Bosun's physio as I have one that does not like car trips -
Dr Charles Kuntz would be only too happy to help you out if you pm or email him.

My two Collies are insured with PetPlan- costs $70 per month for both dogs and can claim up tp $14,000 per year per dog with only a $100 excess per claim.Came in very handy last year in November when between them they had Vet Bills of around $3,000. They are the only company too that has the shortest waiting period-12 days. All other companies are 30 days. My avatar's girls illness happened on Day 23 after the poilcy commencement date so I was a bit scared they wouldn't pay but all Vet reports were consistent with condition so the funds were paid back to me. PetPlan also have deals with some of the Major clinics and they can be billed direct after you pay your excess. $500 excess is more than I pay on my car insurance.
