  1. Inflammatory Bowel Disease needs to be diagnosed by endoscope( I know as I suffer from the condition and have had one dog a fews years ago diagnosed with IBD by endoscope) performed by a Specialist. Has the Vet put the dog on metronidzole(flagyl) ? Peptosyl should not be used long term (says so on the bottle). You usually give a dose every 6 hrs for the first 36 hrs then 2-3 times a day for 3 days. Has the Vet taken a poop sample to send away for faecal float and analysis to rule out things like Guasrdia, salmonella etc? Let us know how your furkid gets on please.
  2. No worries Stitch. I have sent an email off to my friend in QLD that has her dogs teeth done by Laser and as soon as I get the details I will post them.It is about $110.00 per dog. No just have to find one in Vic for my dogs as mine cannot tolerate bones and don't like me brushing their teeth either.
  3. there is a Vet in Qld that does Laser Teeth Cleaning. I will try and find out the details for you. it is just like a normal consult.
  4. Plastic BBQ plates- slide them under the dog when she pees then syringe the urine into sample container. I have used this method for over 10 years, long haired dogs it ia a must!
  5. I wouldn't be mucking around. The owner needs to collect a poop sample, take it and the dog to the Vet's and get the Vet to send the sample of for a faecal analysis and faecel float. It may be something easy to fix or it may be something complex.
  6. I have lost the link to their site( I have used them too). Can anyone post is please? Thank you
  7. GE Credit did have a repayment plan so worth checking out. Good luck and let us know how she goes please. Good Luck Gertie
  8. Yep that is for both dogs and $14,000 per year per dog. It covered over $3,000 in vet bills between both girls late last year and with me be in hospital for more than 4 days (7 weeks) I have sent in claim for Boarding as they cover up to $15 per dog per day( which worked out to be around $1400 so my friend who cared for them has been paid and then I get reimbursed)
  9. I agree with Ellz, not yearly injection as too many dogs have died from this overseas. I buy Daily Dimmitrol for my Collies(200mg) and for about $40 I get enough tablets(1000) to do me 500 days, look up The Vet Shed or Pet Network for these.
  10. I have mine insured with PetPlan, $100 exces but covers up to $14,000 a year per day and only costs $70 per mth by direct debit . They only have a 21 day waiting period whereas all others have 30 days and once they have accepted a condition as long as you are financial the dog is covered for life. A lot of the other companies will only pay to a maximum limit per life of the dog. The majority of other Companies are underwritten by a Sth African Company- the Hollard Grp whereas PetPlan is run by Australian Dog Judges and all their staff are qualified Vet Nurses, not just office staff. PetPlan have wan MDBA Best Dog Insuance for the past 2 years!
  11. Has he been examined by an Orthopaedic Vet to see if there are other options than the surgery you cannot afford? I agree with all the others- No 35min walks and total crate rest and no jumping around with the children I am so glad I have PetPlan Health Insurance as if this situation happened here my furkids could get the best of Vet treatment.
  12. My dogs are definitely intolerant to wheat and other grains except rice.Their food is rice and chicken based and no problems but the minute anyone gives them anything other than that we have upset tummies
  13. Sounds good but the wheat base rules them out for my furkids too
  14. There are several ortho Vets in Melbourne that are excellent: Dr Chris Preston at Melb Vet Referral Centre, Dr's Ray Ferguson and Mark Foley at Monash Vet Clinin in Clayton. Ray does hip and elbow x-rays for the German Shepherd Dog Club Scheme. Then you have Dr Roger Lavelle and Dr Wing Tip Wong at Werribee.
  15. Thanks LP- I must have missed that post as been in hospital for 7 weeks and just getting back on my feet. They are very cute bubbas  I bet you want to keep them all.
  16. Were these cute bubbas born with tails or naturally bobbed? Curious as my understanding is some of the breed lines can throw whole litters of naturally bobbed bubbas. They are real cuties
  17. I have heard of some people using Sudafed. PM Charles Kuntz- he is a Specialist Vet and also a DOL Member. he is very helpful.
  18. Send Charles a PM and he can explain this in depth to you. He is one very talented Vet Specialist
  19. is the Vet consulting with a Specialist Vet who deals with auto-immune disorders? PM Charles Kuntz, specialist Vet and DOL member, and he will gladly try and help you and your furkid.
  20. I use the Dimmitrol Daily for Heartworm Preventative( about $38 for 1000 tablets and as I have 2 dogs that is 500 days worth), Popantel as Allwormer and Frontline Plus for flea prevention. I buy online at either The Vet Shed or priceless pets. The daily Dimmitrol are so easy, I just place the container next to the dogs meal dishes and that way I dont forget them. I have a breed that has Ivermectin Sensitivity and both have been DNA tested as Affected for this so would not use any other heartworm preventative other than the dimmitrol
  21. Some Safeway/Woolies stores sell turkey mince in their Deli Section. I know as when I had the Collie with IBD she was put onto a diet of turkey mince and the Deli did a deal with me as I was buying it in lots and often. From memoery in 2005 I was paying $6 per kg and it was human grade.
  22. Phew! Millie, get well for your Mum and Nikki Still praying for a good recovery for Miss Millie dog
