I have yet to miss a Dimmitrol daily tablet yet and have been using Dimmitrol for 1 year now. The monthly ones have milbemycin in them and my Breed is Ivermectin Sensitive( had DNA's done and know they are affected) so the daily tablets are the way to go. My Vet is really good and if I did happen to miss more than one day she will do the blood test either free or minimal cost. I WOULD never not re-test if a dose did happen to be missed, which is highly unlikely given that I keep the Dimmitrol tablets right next to the dgs diner dishes. Google The Vet Shed- prices are superb and stuff arrives within 2-3 days. I would much rather use the daily tablets as i know I am not overloading their systems with higher dose tablets that are given on a month basis.

Is There A Natural Alternative To The Dry I/d Diet?
InspectorRex replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hills Ultra Allergen Free Z/d comes in cans and dry and my dogs love it big time. The canned version has chicken livers etc in it. My girl that had diagnosed Inflammatory Bowel Disease many years ago was out on I/d and she liked the cans better than the dry food. Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a totally different condtion and can be harder to control as things like stress etc can upset the bowel( I myself have diagnosed Inflammatory Bowel Disease. If I get a flare-up I am put on Metranidazole). As Trishm has stated Royal Canin make a Prescription Range. Ask your Vet and also how did the Vet come to the diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome( eg esndoscopes etc )? -
My Vet has advised that the dog can still be given the daily dimmitrol tablets if the dog is ill as it only is in the system for 24 hrs anyway however is the dog was seriously ill and quarantined she would withhold until the dog recovers, blood test at her cost and then recommence dimmitrol. She said that dogs can safely miss 1 day od dimmitrol without having to re-test. I would rather only use a daily tablet than put a whole months worth into my dogs bodies

You could always consider Daily Dimmitrol tabs for heartworm prevention and use an all wormer every 3mths. Heaps cheaper. 100 of 200mg tabs through the Vet Shed is only around $7.00. I buy 5 containers so got 500 tabs for around $40.00 and the allwormers were about $2 a tablet. Easy to remember daily as I keep container next to dog's meal dishes.

you are a wonderful dog owner so don't beat yourself up over this . when I was a kid we had one dog that could open the fridge door and on Christmas evening greeted us with a cooked turkey in her mouth! My Dad had to put a lock on the fridge door so she could not repeat it Glad Hamlet is on the mend -

Hang in there with your beautiful girl Chloe. You have been down this path before with your girl and you are all the more stronger for that. Hugs to you both and Chloe is in my prayers too. Like you I too would spend every cent I had on my furkids too -
Glad you at least know what is the cause of Sweep's illness. They certainly worry us our furkids. Prayers still being said for Sweep to come good soon and live a nice life with you, his Mum

I don't know about other States but here in Vic it is Dental Check-up time at most Vets . This is a good service provided by Vets. Our Vet is doing the check ups for free and I know our Vet is also offering, if any dental work required, free fluids whilst the work is done inder GA plus another discount. As Humans most of us go to our own Dentists at least yearly for a check-up( and we have to pay for it) so why not look after our furkids dental hygiene and check-ups too? to all the dedicated Vets who are offering Free check ups :D

Have sent you a PM -
Prayers still coming your way

I am with you MissMoo- try the natural remedies first- much safer and made at human grade. Yes NSAIDs are are no-no for dogs or humans in this house.I have renal failure myself, probably the results of NSAIDs given by the doctors in my teens. EFS

Prayers still being said for Sweep. Even if he has licked a rat that may have been baited it could have affected him? Your Vet would be able to check this by doing an Activated Clotting Blood tests. Normal for dogs I believe is for the blood to clot in 95 seconds. Yes if you think he is not improving today at trip to the Vets today would be in orfer IMHO

Dr Stephen Coles at Bluff Rd Sandringham is a wonderful Vet ;) . He is also Veterinary Advisor to Royal Melb Zoo and qualified Veterinary Dentist. -
Metacam nearly killed a dog of ours many years ago. Non-steriodial anti inflammatories are NOT recommended for dogs that are Ivermectin Sensitive as the mutant gene in these dogs seem to make them have adverse reactions to it. I would try Human Grade Glucosamine Hyrodchloride( not sulfate as this upsets the tummy).Microgenics make this and you can buy it from the health food shop and you only need about 1 teaspoon full a day for a 20kg dog.

Yes please let us know how you furkid goes.

I have to agree with Erny and a few others. If it is only cosmetic and not for a life-threatening condition or to resolve a health issue I would not be subjecting the dog to a GA. If my dogs ever have a GA( like to have hips x-rayed etc) I always have the Vet use Propofol as the induction agent as they come out of the GA much quicker( that advise was given to me by the late Dianne Gunn-Scarcella).

Temgesic is milder than Tramal and I have seen dogs that have had temgesic they haven't had any weird side effects
-
Tramal is a synthetic morphine and yes it does do strange things to pets and people.( I have had it and I felt like I was walking in space). Hope your normal Vet is more helpful and can work out why your furkid is not himself

My dioggy first aid kit has: VetWrap(cohesive bandage); Gauze Pads; Sterile Syringes( good for getting gunk out of eyes if you use sterile water); Sterile aid packs( like human ones with the trya, tweezers, sterile water); Scissors; Micropore tape( to put at the end of Vetwrap, discourages the chewing to get vetwrap off); Peptosyl; Nervatona Stress Relief Tablets( human quality homeopathic product); Ph numbers; Also spare leaad etc. Need to get bigger container

well put Dancinbcs. If you get onto DL early enough I have been told treatment can be successful

Discoid Lupus is sometimes also referred to as "Collie nose" as it is prevalent in Collie type breeds. If treatment is needed an Immunologist is the best place to start. A lot of people give their dogs 500IU Capsules on Vitamin E a day as this helps to restore the black pigment on the nose. Some also put Vit E cram on the dogs nose.(best to do that bit just before you feed them so then it has time to sink in whilst they are eating). Some people even have the dogs nose tattoed( ouch!). Lupus- both forms, is usually inherited( note I said Usually inherites) and as far as I know there is not a DNA Test for it as yet.
