I agree with Gareth. Furballs is seeking advice re the situation not whether her bitch be desexed. It may well be that Furballs may be competing in conformation this the dog must be Entire.Furballs you sound as if you are a responsible dog owner otherwisee you would have not sought advice here on DOL. Furballs- it sounds like stress to me as one of mine stresses when she sees "little ones". Nervatona tablets soon fixed that( it is a homeopathic remedy).

Here in Vic my understanding is that the Club has to have either Reserve CC Certificates or ribbons for each breed. I too have been in the same boat on occasion wanting one of the above only to be told' sorry we don' have any'. I am not a big time exhibotor either( maybe 1-2 shows every 2-3 months) so if my dog gets a Reserve CC I would like to be able to saviour the moment with.

yes I agree MM, results pretty please

I Have been with Petplan for just under 2 years with 2 dogs insured with Standard Policy( up to $14,000 per year per dogs less $100 per claim ). It has more than paid for itself as total claims in that period between both dogs has been around the $10,000 mark. It is the only Company that has a 21 day waiting period, all others have a 30 day waiting period. The Claims staff are all animal lovers and most of them are qualified Vet Nurses and deal with your claims as promptly as they can. They have had a few hiccups when changing computer software but so does any company when it changes software.

Re-check with Petplan. if it was the 6 weeks free breeder's insurance that you took out I am almost certain up to $3000 in vet's bills are covered and also the cost of the pup if it should die. You are very kind in offering another pup. Just a hint- when you have your next litter of pups and take them to be vaccinated etc and you have buyers for them take them to see your Vet the day before they go to new homes and ask Vet to give a written report stating the health status of pup at vaccination time and the day before pup goes to a new home. I know of quite a few breeders who do that these days.

off the top of my head I cannot think of anyone for the moment but venue suggestions; The Bear House Restaurant, Cranbourne( also has a motel attached to it); The Settlement Hotel, Cranbourne( also has Motel); Out of the two Tthe Settlement is bigger and has more accommodation( it does a lot of function catering too). I have eaten at both and meals are terrific. These 2 places are only about 4kms from KCC Park(DogsVicHQ) and about 45mins drive on freeways from Melbourne CBD. Okay now will put on thinking cap to think of photographers

Two adult Rough Collies( age 5 yrs and 3 yrs): 14kg of Innova Adult Chicken Kibble lasts for about 8 weeks( you only feed 400gms per day). I get it at wholesale rates so save about $40 per bag. The change in their coats etc in amazing. Innova is all natural with chicken, turkey, barley, rice, carrots, cottage cheese, alfalfa and the Innove NovaFlex Canned food you can actually see all the ingredients.I also get that at wholesale rates and they get a tablespoon of that with the kibble, mainly to hide their daily Dimmitrol Heartworm tablets . My slow eater has now become the one to finish first and go looking at the other ones plate in case there is anymore. Yes I know it is imported by Pets Paradise but where I source if from do not sell any live pets. They love it and it is the only kibble that they actually crunch and chew, all the other kibbles they just swallowed whole

Please Make Sure Your Dogs Are Okay In The Heat
InspectorRex replied to InspectorRex's topic in General Dog Discussion
As to the DOLer who enquired about the horse, it has been moved (before 9.15am when I went past it ). RSPCA Senior Inspector was out first thing this morning and they have been inundated with calls from locals, the Police etc for several days and were warned that it would get taken to media if not moved. 5pm news just said 43 degrees and now tomorrow is going to be 36 degrees before we get a cool change. Please take care, everyone. -
Carafate(from Vets) works wonders on putting a lining back on the stomach- you give it 1 hour before food. Ring and ask your Vet about it. As it relines the stomach the dog is wanting to eat again.

I agree with Centiout- if no imporvement x-rays done by a qualified Orthopaedic Vet( the ones that do the hip/elbow xrays )- they are more qualified that your normal Vet if it is joint related. Also beach sand etc can be very abrasive( think back to you going to beach as a kid and the after feeling of sand stuck anywhere and everywhere ). If you really want to take her to the beach out dog booties on her- you can get waterproof ones.

Yes even licking a "baited" vermin such as a mouse can cause death if Vet treatment sought asap. A Vet needs to perform what s called an"activated clotting test'(blood test). A normal clotting time is 95 seconds. I have had first hand experience with this some years ago when one of our dogs presented a dead mouse to us at the back door. No puncture wounds on the dead mouse but called Vet who said to bring dog in for blood test. ACT time was 110 seconds so had to take the dog back 2 days later for Vet to take blood from the jugular vein. Activated clotting time was 180 seconds and dog was immediately commenced on Vitamin K twice a day for 3 weeks.(If this Vet had not been vigilant our dog woud have died). After the three weeks were up the dog had to go back to have another blood test, phew ACT was back to 95 seconds. Vet explained that when a rodent etc has been baited and dies the residue seeps through to the outer skin so even licked a baited rodent can be fatal. No baits of any kind have been used in our house( rodent came from a neighbouring property that was not occupied so had Health Inspector out and he ordered major clean up on that property) and they never will be.

Please everyone. Most states are experiencing extremely high temperatures at present so please make sure your dogs and your animals are not exposed to this heat(43 degrees forecast for melb. today with strong northerly winds) Also remember if there is a fire near you- get out at first sign of dnager. Houses can be replaced but lives cannot. Personally today I have dogs leads, briefcase with all important documents etc by the front door and car is full of fuel. Already at 10am it is 30 degrees.

I agree Ceilidh. You may know names in your own breed but for me that is about it.

My girls do the nightly perimeter patrol as we get a lot of stray cats in the yard at night. They don't bark, they scent out with noses to the ground( like Bloodhounds ) and do not miss one inch of the yard. They only time they have barked was when two stray cats were actually on the grass in our yard and they both gave chase but once the cats were out of the yard they stopped barking( talking a couple of minutes here). I am pleased that they do that as they would smell the scent of a strange human and alert me to the fact.

Finalists For The 3rd Annual Dog Owners Choice Awards

Congrrats to all nominees and go Scott( aka Daddy-dog to my Collie Girls, who looked after them everytime i went to hospital and now they are also "his girls") -
I too am a very happy PetPlan Policy Holder. They had a major overhaul of the computers mid 2008 and that created a massive backlog of work because a claim was on the old system they had to re-do it on the new system. There have been many teething problems with the new computer system and that is why, for the moment, all paid claims are made by cheque. I had a claim denied( like Erny) but once I sought a Review and the Manager reviewed the claim and all the relevant Vet reports the claim was paid and promptly. If you are with an insurance company and have had claims and you go to change to another the previous claims will be put on as 'exclusions' with the new company. The staff at PetPlan are very helpful. Rather than send an email I would personally ring them if you have an unresolved issue with them. They are all doggy people (most of the Claims staff are Vet Nurses) so they are empathetic to your case( well that is how I found them to be ). I would not go with any other Company- all others have a 30 day waiting period, PetPlan is only 21 days. yes and it does help if you are submitting a claim to include the entire Vet History and copies of Vacc'n certs- speeda things up.

At 12noon the Cranbourne site said 38 degrees. Glad I was not entered and quite a few in my group who got CC's did not wait around for Group Specials as I have had a few calls with results etc. 12.30pm news said 39 degrees with cool change but here it is as hot as hell and not a cloud in the sky or even the sign of a change- justy damn hot northerly winds. It was till 32 degrees at midnight. Tomorrow will be hotter than the forecast 33 degrees if we do not get a change soon. Then Monday 41 degrees!!! Someone ought to ban Summer
