  1. thats just SOOOOO much more disgusting to pick up than warm poo ... Gag Or is it just me?
  2. My aunty is going well, she has started obedience with Zack recently, he is scared of the other dogs but making progress which is awesome!!! Also has been taking them both for walks. ! Thanks again everyone for all the healing vibes, obviously they're working!
  3. Here are some photos of Max and Zack, going heaps better!! Max, healing well! :D Zack, healing very well also.
  4. Yeah I agree, Looks like it will be cancelled. Why do they always plan it for the months when its usually raining?? :D
  5. http://whatsonsydney.com/eventDetails.aspx...ives-showground At the St Ives showground on Sunday. (If its not raining  ) Anyone going ;)?
  6. My least favourite thing is "Where did you get him?" "Oh from -Insert known puppy farm name here-" ;) I had a "friend" scream at me for calling her dog a cross. Her "labradoodle" was apparently a purebred dog with papers. Apparently, its only a "pure bred" if its a first generation cross. She went on a rant about biology and how dogs are only a breed for the first generation cross and by that standard, my purebred labradors weren't a breed at all. I haven't spoken to her since. Unfortunately she is still dating my friend.
  7. Aww. You look out for the little man, Regal. They are pretty adorable as well. Sometimes Kivi comes over all paternal-like. Earlier in the week Erik was nauseous for some mysterious reason and curled up miserably against Kivi's shoulder. Kivi was nuzzling his face and licking his ears. Awww. Aww Kivi is such a cuddley boy, I can just see him looking after Erik. (Where are the photos I say :D *nudge nudge* ?) Have you ever noticed how some dogs seem to give each other the all clear to do Whatever possible? When Regal and Riddick see each other they just catapult, bodyslam and frolicking ensues. You almost wince at the collision. :D
  8. So there had actually been Progress! The pitbull and owner have been found by the council!!! Currently the animal control people are building a case against the owner and her dog to take them to court. What I learned happened with the man who has 18 stiches, He was holding max, and the pitbull let go of Zack and attacked HIM! Latched onto his arm, He had to put max down so he could try and get the dog off his arm!! The feeling is the dog will Definitely be getting put down (after trying to kill 2 dogs and attacking a human I should think so) and hopefully the owner will suffer and HUGE fine. I will update when I get more news. Both Zack and Max are making progress and the Vet is very happy with how they're going so far (Will get some new photos soon to show you how they're going!)
  9. Sound like Kivi was taking control of the situation :D! (They're both too adorable for words btw !) Something kind of similar happened when Riddick was playing with his buddy Regal (a 8 month old black labrador). We where at Bayview beach. A cattle dog cross was invited by Riddick into the game of chaseys and all was going well. But then the cattle dogs body language went from playing to being a bit over the top, and Riddicks changed from happy and playful to not too sure. Before I could step forward though, Regal leaves the ball he was fetching to go and shoulder the cattle dog away from Riddick, and starts playing with riddick exclusively, completely ignoring the cattle dog. Both of them ignored the other dog and it trotted off and left them alone. Don't you love the things dogs do and we try to explain it
  10. I would have been pissed! Poor charlie.. he does look sexy though. Emmy will be jealous of her bro's new pjs :D
  11. Anyone know a store like this in the Northern Beaches area of Sydney? I'm going to have to move states...
  12. those behaviors are environmental as well as coupled with poor training on the owners behalf (or lets have a laugh when the dog starts, it's funny etc etc). No more horror stories then the average person who puts in little to no effort with their dog desexed or not. And trust me I see a lot of dogs desexed and have problems so hormones are not the factor here. I wouldnt desex a lab under 12 months. If he's too much to handle that is not the hormones, that is the dog itself. Train it, dont use surgery as a magic bullet. Exactly what I've been thinking. People use different things as excuses for a dogs behaviour, and being entire is one of them. "He's chewed up my house!" Oh well hes a labrador! "He's just so yappy and won't ever stop barking!" Well thats all SWF's for you! And again, "He's really 'dominant and aggressive'" Well get him desexed, that will fix it. It will be fun to have a calm, relaxed and completely chilled out entire labrador, to break the stereotype completely ..
  13. Woah I come back and theres another 4 pages. Awesome! Thanks everyone for posting about your experiences, its great to read and learn the different views on this particular situation. I think what worries me most is all the "horror" stories you hear of how entire dogs act (eg. marking, humping, aggression) but when I stop and think about it. I have a extremely chilled out Labrador who I'm putting a lot of work into to make him the most amazing dog possible. I myself know what I'm doing and am quite comfortable handling and training a dog of any age, sex or breed, entire or not! I've never had a entire dog, or really a dog that was fully "mine", so it's a little nerve wracking at times... Its almost like its used as a excuse sometimes, "that dog attacked my dog!", "well its cause hes entire".. I'm thinking that I will leave him for now, and just see how it goes. There isn't any rush. (hes only 5 months!) As my dad said, "When they're gone, they're gone. They certainly don't grow back " If my vet gives me more trouble there may be a thread asking for recommendations for vets in the northern beaches area... as willing as I am to listen to the words of the older and more experienced generation. Hes my dog alone, and if you're gonna preach Mr Vet then bye bye.
  14. I've heard, if you leave it for longer than 6 months your dog will become a out of control horndog... or if you do it before a year, your dog wont grow properly and can have huge amounts of problems. Seems to be its your screwed if you do and screwed if you don't
  15. This is how I feel.. But then why does a vet say 6 months. its confusing!!!!
  16. See, another opinion! Did they say why 9 months? Feel free to share please!
  17. Why am I getting told different things by everyone I ask then! The hormones bla bla bla..
  18. Took Riddick to the vet tonight, just to check out his teeth. Vet made a comment that assumed I would be getting him desexed at 6 months. I replied that I wasn't really sure, hes a very lanky boy and I wanted to read up some more on desexing and ask the DOL community about it before deciding. Vet just stared at me and said "6 months is the best age to get him done" I said, "well I've heard some different things about him" Vet: "No, 6 months is the best age." Felt very much like he was telling me off! I don't plan to breed or anything along those lines, I just want to give Riddick the best start to life. So... what age do I desex? Hes a black labrador. weighs 20 kilos at 5 months! Is not at all overweight. Looks like hes walking on stilts. And heres a photo cause hes just so beautiful.
  19. I sent my email complaint today, so will be very interested to see what happens with it. If anything
  20. Yup - move to Melbourne and knock on our door, you might get a different response. We encourage our customers to bring their dogs in. We occasionally have a staff dog in, but they are always confined and would never be permitted to interfere with a client! Actually, we see the dogs as the customers moreso than the human, and have been known to have several Rotties wandering the store checking out the latest treat or toy. At the same time, all our staff keep a close eye on visitors to make sure there are no little disagreements - not everyone brings in a friendly dog or keeps control - so that is our job for the duration of the visit. To have a bitch in season in the store is simply wrong, for her mostly, but also for any poor male that comes in. Or, maybe that is the intention of the owner... some new designer brand? Phillipa 4 Paws & More Pet Supplies Why are all the great pet stores far away from me
  21. Sounds like you're doing a great job with your pup. And don't let the, 'are you sure that's a lab' comment get to you, people just accept and even expect dogs to be badly behaved. I have a doberman and just the other day, someone asked me what he was whilst they were patting him (and he was being his usual beautiful self I might add), and when I told them, they were like, oh aren't those the vicious dogs? Have heard that more than once myself. My general answer to them while they were being throughly loved and smooched was "Well has she taken your arm off yrt" General answer was well no she hasn't. I would complain to a higher up person. To have an aggressive dog in a store is idiocy and they are liable to be sued if a problem arises, having a bitch out in season is just as stupid. Not to mention that they are promoting dodgy breeding practices. If I was was closer Dogmad I would be your wingman. And you know what horrifies me more than anything ..... these are the people that customers go to for advice Exactly!! Its just promoting backyard breeding to the people who don't know any better and are actually looking to learn!
  22. I have PMed everyone that asked Now I absolutely must know where you work so I can come in for no other reason than to snoggle your dog. Of course I'll buy something, but the main reason is that sweet lil *makes baby talk noises* in your pic I would do the same if it wasn't a different state. *coo's at picture* shes so cuute.
