Stupid Owners With Ill-fitting Dogs
lovemesideways replied to HeavyPaws's topic in General Dog Discussion
People. Suck. GRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.... -
Thats such a cute idea!! I hadn't even thought of that. Thankyou

I second that. I could have stolen him when I met him. . . . . . . . Come to think of it I would have taken Rover too Both of your dogs are a credit to you and the time you put into training them! Great video Thankyou Riddick wouldn't go... but Rover would be off without a second glance if you had food ;)

Hear, hear! A dog is a carnivore, with a carnivore's digestive system, a carnivore's teeth. You can't say your dog is an omnivore when it's scientifically proven that they're not. Yes, of course they will eat fruit, vegetables and grain if that's what we feed them - just as we can eat processed food and sugary junk, even though it is not good for our bodies and will likely cause issues in the future. My own dog will graze on the apples and plums that fall from my trees - he loves the sugary sweetness. His body uses none of it - it all comes out the other end, looking quite similar to when it went in. Tell me. What will happen if i feed my rabbit meat? Dogs are not *obligate carnivores* (like a ferret or a cat) but they are carnivores! Meaning that they can digest vegetable matter too (unlike the ferret or the cat) Is your dog a wild dog? Wow! Even though my Samoyed is one of the most closely related domesticated breeds to a wolf, he has over years and years of eating the scrap food of his people developed teeth to grind vegetable matter. I said this in a post yesterday, I'm just so amazed at how many people think their own dogs are so unevolved! Who are they getting this information from? People on dog forums? or scientific research found somewhere other than the internet? Better watch out Bindii.. if you annoy someone they might grab Hugo and hold him upside down!!! Don't you know his eyes will just pop right out!

Only male dogs “hump” because they are trying to mate. Heard this today when a female golden retriever tried to hump Riddick. Her owner goes "oh we think she has some crossed wires, she always tries to hump things cause shes confused."

Yeah hes getting huge We reckon he's going to be bigger than Rover! Anyone have a suggestion for the next thing I should make a video on?
-
Good on you Linda . If you're ever worried about dogs, I would rather report it and be completely wrong about the situation, then do nothing.

Apparently my video views on youtube have been frozen cause I watched it too many times on my home computer. How stupid is that? The reason I've watched it about a dozen times from home is because I've showed my family and my friends!!! Sigh. I hate technical issues.

Holy crap What a nut job!!!!! I was in a relationship with a controlling asshole for a long time, and I never noticed. Example of him, I went to see the movie Australia with him and made a passing comment that Hugh Jackman was good looking. He spent the entire movie in silence, and then when I finally asked what was wrong on the ride home, he started screaming at me. "Why would you say that? You're disgusting! If you want to cheat on me then just go off and f*** every guy you see, I know its what you want to do" bla bla bla. Yep he would scream at me cause I said a movie star was decent looking... and thats just one tiny part of it all. It didn't matter what people said to me I was in it and completely ga ga for him. Just be supportive and offer any assistance you can. My mum and best friend where always there for me, and the only people who didn't bitch about Ex. So therefore the only people I would talk to about him. And it wasn't until I finally broke-up with him that I learned how much my best mate completely hated his guts

My puppy is only 8.5 weeks and can shake hands, so I think badger is not too young. Just keep trying and i am sure he will get it :D A read in another thread that if you hold the treat in your hand and make a fist around it, the dog will try to paw your hand to get at the treat. I used this to teach my puppy, she learnt it in about 10 mins! Riddick is so cute! Another one my adorable dog wouldn't do. Thankyou :D Yay for all the feedback :D

yes but it is a totally different type of 'wag', a mad dog will have a higher and more tense wag, whereas a scared dog will often hold its tail loose and wag it slowly or have its tail between its legs. Not in my experience - Atlas hates the vets, he has to be muzzled and goes crazy when he has to have his nails cut, the whole entire time, his tail wags - exactly as it does when he is happy at home. When Kaos and At got into a fight years ago, Kaos was wagging her tail the whole time as well I dont trust tails!! Neither do I. My aunties dog Max bit their daughter years and years ago now. She kept harrassing him and one day he bit her. She kept saying "But he was wagging his tail mum!!!!" I wouldn't trust a child or the general public to be able to tell the difference between one type of wag and another. Well how is a male dog meant to get testicular cancer if he doesnt have any testicles. Same goes for a bitch with ovarian or uterine cancer. Exactly ..... You can't get cancer of something you don't have. (or does lovemesideways know something we dont?) No-one is arguing that a dog without testicles can get testicular cancer. The myth as stated was "if you don't desex a dog they will get cancer and die", which is most definitely a myth. Not all dogs with testicles will get cancer of any sort. If the myth was stated as "if you don't desex a dog they have a higher risk of some cancers" then I would disagree with that being a myth because it is has been shown to be true, at least for testicular cancer. Exactly. Thanks Aidan
-
This is partially true. Desexing a dog or bitch will remove the chance of them getting some types of cancers and diminish the chance of getting some other types of cancer. i.e a desexed dog WILL NOT get cancer of the testicles. I would be very interested where you came up with these definite facts. As I have heard "facts" of the same nature saying something completely contrary. I think this subject is one where every one has a opinion and is sure their opinion is fact. Same as you shouldn't desex before they're over 12 months otherwise they won't grow and mature properly. Or if you don't desex a dog at 6 months they will become crazy, agressive, mark everything and hump everyone. Both are "fact" depending on who you ask.
-
This is generally true is it not? Dog's also wag their tails when they are mad, scared etc.. Exactly. A dog could be wagging it's tail in relation to a -I'm frightened please go away- action, this coupled with a child trying to pat the "happy" dog, is where these myths can lead to dangerous outcomes.

Thanks ;) I will definitely post my next one.. (Any ideas on what my next one should be ? ) My older boy Rover was like that. He would throw his paw out no problem and it took him all of 5 minutes to learn shake. And then another 5 minutes to learn shake with the other paw. Riddick however, very rarely paws anything! I can name maybe once that hes pawed my in any way since I've owned him. I tried so many different things to try and get him to paw at them. (Toys, other dog, my mum, food, ect! ) ) Patience was key for me
-
Oh! Big big myths!!!!!!! I Hadn't even thought of them.
-
Ah I get it now, and you're right ! But keep in mind this is for your average pet owner who has absolutely no idea when it comes to training. If they consistently say shake first, He will eventually learn the verbal command. Since the hand action comes after it. I put it together like this mainly as a way of putting everything into one video.
-
Could you elaborate on this please ? Edit to add, love kikopups videos !

Yay ! I completely agree that Riddick is too cute to exist, hes a bit of a delicate soul . His nickname is "S.N.A.P Dog", for sensitive new age puppy dog :p Thanks ! (did you see the kitty invasion at the end?) I got super frustrated trying to figure out how to train Riddick to shake. Spent ages picking up way, marking and treating and he just didn't get it! Then I realised he wasn't really paying attention! Was just focusing on my hand and the treat, not me. So thats why I made sure to get him to focus on me before anything else ! You could see his expression when he got it, "Oooh, the paw thing is what you want? I get it now!"
