  1. Yeah the coat has definitely changed to adult coat, no more puppy fluff! Seen it happen with friends dogs and my own boy Rover too. Seems to be more than that though! Hopefully I'm wrong and its just excessive coat change. But bald patches? Is that normal? Going to the vet anyway to get his ears checked! Noticed a lot of difference in the coats of my boys and my friends its true. He gets bones daily, maybe some sardines in oil would be a good idea.
  2. So Riddick (Who is a Entire, male, 10 month old Black Labrador) has recently started shedding excessively, and I know hes a Labrador, they shed. But its to the point where I noticed today that he is getting bald patches on his sides. They aren't too noticable yet, but he barely has any coat on his sides and the hair on his back is very coarse. He is the correct weight, eating properly. Gets fed Eukanuba Puppy daily plus a Kong filled with mince at night. He also gets treats throughout the day during training, Apple, cheese and Cabanossi. He also occasionally gets a pigs ear or a Greenie. He isn't at all lethargic or changed really, just his coat is looking so grotty! Any ideas guys? I'm thinking I'll take him to the vet on Monday for a check up, his last one was only a month or so ago and everything was normal. Can't hurt to check though! He really does not have any symptoms! Nothing I can see or notice that is wrong other than his coat. Just the amount of hair he loses has gone from basically Nothing at all (he was shedding extremely lightly) to, if you run your hand through his fur, you will come out with a clump of dry hair.
  3. Friend came home to find her 2 female dogs in a bad way. The Poodle mix dead and her staffy mix was so injured that she had to be put down that afternoon. They ignored every warning sign, and lost both their dogs in the same day.
  4. What a idiot. There is a whole bunch of other wanky articles, like when your dog should be allowed to bite...which I just find a really strange thing to write about. He also believes any dog he deems to be "vicious" should be put down. Like say, a fear biter? Nope, no training, kill it! http://samthedogtrainer.com/articles/when-...-a-dog-to-bite/ But a dog who mauls someone that tries to touch his food? (as long as its someone elses dog, not yours!) that is ok, because its the dogs stuff... Maybe I'm reading it wrong? Ditto.
  5. Rover eats advance no problem! Then again, he has a stomach of concrete followed by a layer of iron
  6. Was just one experience, hopefully they don't do it often, still they lost a customer over that!
  7. I have one of these black dog pouches & even after putting vaseline on the hinges, it still snaps shut on my fingers Doesn't actually hurt but is very off putting & now my dog knows in advance that I am getting the treat ready as she can feel my whole body tensing against the "snap" I prefer to use the pocket of my trousers but then they get a bit smelly. The hinges on the blackdog pouches do need oiling occasionally, sewing machine oil (1 drop) or olive oil is probably better than vaseline. If you are having other problems then just give them a call or email them, they do replacement hinges and I'm absolutely positive they would be happy to work out something if you are unhappy with their product. If they don't know they can't help you. Though be warned, they aren't always polite about it. I sent in a complaint about my hinges that just are not up to standard even though I oil them, and also tried vaseline. And though I did get replacement hinges, the man emailing me was incredibly rude. I asked what would make these hinges better than the last lot? Was there anything I can do? His reply was something like "if they don't work, don't think you're going to get more freebies!". I did not email him asking for "Freebies", I just wanted to know why my hinges kept bending. I won't be dealing with them again after that.
  8. What about, When random guy sees Rover at the dog park. "Oh what a great looking Labrador, he would be perfect to breed with my girl!" *points to his horribly fat narrow faced Lab x girl "How much you looking for?" me, "Sorry mate he's desexed" The guy, "So what? That doesn't matter" Me....."HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" He stormed off looking angry
  9. Wow. You leave your dog outside cause you're too lazy to vacuum? Lol. Nice... Mmmm no actually, the opposite. I'm a bit OCD and a clean freak, the thought of dog hair being everywhere until i get the chance to vaccum would drive me insane. Should have gotten a poodle
  10. Wow. You leave your dog outside cause you're too lazy to vacuum? Lol. Nice... That's not nice nor necessarily fair, LMS. Person's choice. Some dogs who are kept outside receive more attention; training; mental and physical exercise with their owners than some others I have met over the years who have their dogs inside. If the dog is well looked after; receives the care and attention it requires - there is nothing wrong with a dog being kept outside. It is not my choice - but my choice doesn't have to be someone else's. I understand that, if you want to keep your dog outside then that is always going to be a personal choice. I know some dogs even prefer being outside! But stating the only reason your dog is outside is cause you don't want to vaccum? Even as a "joke".. Guess I didn't think it was funny. That in itself is a personal choice though ! I was half joking anyway, maybe I should add a "" into there?
  11. Thats horrifying. What the hell is the point behind what he is doing?

  13. Yes I don't know what it is either. Also Curious
  14. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHhifq5D4nY&feature=aso I think its a promotional video by Dyson.
  15. Hope she will be feeling better soon! Grass seeds are horrible little bastards, my friends standard poodle got 4-5 in buried into each armpit after he went for a run through some long grass. Not good.
  16. Maybe he has more muscle than the "breed standard" staffords? I know a lot of the less reputable breeders (not knowing where you got him from obviously) are going outside standard as far as muscle mass goes. Big chunky huge muscles are the "trend". Or it could just be random. Friend got a poodle who is like 10cms under height. Every other dog and bitch in his litter is correct height.
  17. It works the same way as when you first name the dog. Dog eventually learns, New name equals attention. They're smart bugger, they cotton on fast
  18. Can't recall too many blind people training guide dogs Cosmolo, or too many guide dogs fall apart when beyond the trainers presence as one example. Yes, poorly trained dogs with inadequate foundation can exhibit what you have explained I agree, it happens. You do know that guide dogs aren't just given to the new owner "full trained" right? After 20 or so weeks of full on daily training, (if they pass) they are then matched with a handler. There is then another month or 2 of handler training on how to command the dog, care for it, ect. Plus I believe weekly check ups for the first 6 months.
  19. haha, ;) So have you taken on board the advice in this thread regarding breeding your puppy? Interested as you have time to reply to me but cannot seem to reply to the countless people stating reason why a litter is not a good idea ;) Mostly reaserching the links they have passed onto me at the moment! I will reply to them when im ready, and after i have had a look into the info they have passed on! good to know.

  21. IMO there is a difference between Dragging a puppy at full speed. And taking very slow steps while keeping a gentle tension on the lead, then praising the very second a dog moves of their own accord. If it is a behavior of Shutting down, sometimes moving forward can be a very best effective tool.
  22. Would you breed a dog who is not standard? Just cause someone says "aw she is cute, I would like a puppy" does not mean they are committed.. I would desex.
  23. I wouldn't do this . In your situation then i would use my own vehicle as a form of training. Take it in turns of driving past with pup sitting outside calmly & ignoring the insecurity & praising . I would pretend to be doing gardening anything that is non specific to what is happening. If she is good at school then use that area for more "fun time" with vehicles. Good idea there If you can arrange to arrive to Obedience early and just hang around the parking lot as other people arrive (Obviously off to the side somewhere safe!) lots of cars driving around, but you can make it super fun with training!
