Advice And Critique Wanted :)

Thankyou That is a great idea! Looking at it that way, I think the main problem I have is composition. I always seem to have crappy distracting backgrounds or the subject is in the wrong spot. Not sure how to go about improving this though. Thanks for this, gives a interesting perspective Just to add, its actually 2 different labs with the bowtie on, not the same dog. And they where just happy to get the bit of treat I was holding! Thats a good point also, Im very happy to just stick to the things I know and love like dogs, will have to broaden my horizons! -
So I'm really looking at how I can help move my photography forward and improve. I know a lot of it is practice, did a short course so I firmly understand all the basics, but what else can I do? I cannot afford another course at the moment or else I would look into something like that, hopefully it will be on the table in the future I see photos by some people on here and pretty much salivate with envy! What steps can I take to moving forward and improving so I don't suck so much Below are some of my most recent photos,

Your Preferred Sex For Next Puppy/dog
lovemesideways replied to Baileys mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have 2 boys at the moment, my OH has a boy dog, and I will most likely be getting another boy. There is no real reason, I just like boys better -
This is OT but Im really sorry JoeK, I really have a hard time understanding what you're talking about.

It seems like some people in this thread think the dog should be put down without assesment simply because thats what would happen if it was a more notable breed like pitbull, staffy ect. Yeah that makes sense....... Should we assess every dog as a individual? They're dogs first, breed second.

Or his reason for telling someone to poke aggressive dogs....
-
So wait you are Tony or you know him? and why did your name just change from aussiedogwhisperer to doglover007? am I missing something? Even without calling this persons training credentials into question, nobody should give hands on advice for an aggressive dog. (Let alone EVERY aggressive dog.) when they do not know the person or the dog. Its completely ridiculous and asking for trouble.
-
Wow. Are you for real? Telling some stranger you have never met to POKE a dog that is acting in a aggressive manner. Seriously. Poke them? Im guessing you have watched a lot of the Dog Whisperer, so think back to that now. Why the hell do you think they say "do not attempt the techniques you are about to see without consulting a professional"? Cause if you do the wrong thing to a dog who is in a high state of arousal, it can go badly. Very Badly. Aka, someone getting severly bitten because they decided to poke a aggressive on edge dog in the neck. Seriously, how silly can you be...

Knowing Charlie he probably just slept the entire time, then started barking when you got back, I wouldn't feel too guilty

SOooooooooooooooo cute!!! I love evil Beagles serious face as well.

I think I would only breed if there was some way I felt I could improve the breed. It may be a idea in 10+ years, never know really.

I don't withhold water, but we don't have water bowls inside the house. Namely because Rover dunks his whole face into the bowl and emptys about half of it onto the floor for a 5-6 meter radius around his bowl, plus the dripping as he walks off. They go to the door if they're thirsty, and we let them out, no dramas.

;) Riddick would probably try and fetch it

How To Stop A Dog Choking?

When an animal is literally choking and oxygen starved- obeying commands like 'teeth' are not a high priority I agree, expecting a dog to follow a command when they are panicking and choking to death is not something I would count on. And having a arm shoved down your throat is different to a hand inside your mouth. I got a tetnis shot. The puncture wounds are not bad, looks like Rick wasnt trying to bite down, just pulling away and trying to spit out my arm. -

thanks everyone for the replies, it is good to know all the things to try if this situation happens again(touch wood). Hard to reply as I have had some drugs for wrist pain but every reply and idea is appreciated. -
So my OHs GSD was chewing on a small rubber ball. The kind you get from rebel sports, slightly smaller than a tennis ball. and he started choking. I pulled him from crate, screamed at OH that his dog was choking. Managed to pin Ricky (the GSD) and shoved my arm down his throat and got the ball most of the way out before he bit down on my wrist. Let go of ball cause of pain, and yelled at poor OH who was freaking out to grab it. By this stage ricky was frothing at the mouth and almost passed out. He managed to grab it and pull it the rest of the way out. OH is fine, Ricky is fine (THANK GOD!!!!) but my wrist has deep puncture marks and is possibly fractured. Im writing this for a few reasons. Frankly what happened was completely terrifying, if Ricky had been alone he would have died. If either OH or I had been alone I dont know if we could have saved him. I had no idea something like that would happen as I have been using these balls for quite a while (which will of course not be happening again!). So, What ways are there to get something from a dogs throat other than shoving your arm down there? I am more than willing to trade a broken bone and some missing flesh for the safety of my dogs. But I would like to know how else to help if the situation comes up again (which will hopefully Never happen)

We had a cat who would try and suck on your ear lobe whenever you gave him cuddles. (He got named Tyson, after Mike Tyson )
