I let her out the first few nights cause i thought she needed to go to the toilet, so i would let her out, go get drink for myself, then go back and she would come in. Then after about the 3rd night i waited at the door and she didnt need to go at all. So then i tried leaving her out until I woke up, she doesnt mind that she wont bark outside, she just sits and waits for breakfast. So leaving her out there isnt an issue for her for an hour or so until its breakfast time. Not sure how to break her habit, I told her to be quiet, she doesnt listen No other part of her routine has changed either

Yeah i wont make her sleep outside, I cant do it, I did mention to hubby could though if he wanted to trade places with her he could sleep outside to see what the fuss is about its odd because usually we wake her up and shes like she would rather stay in bed,l busts her bum to be inside at any chance Does it sound like a habit though now? every night for last week

OK so my 8 year old lab that we have had for 3 years now has always slept inside. She toilets before bed and sleeps till I let her out in the morning. If she has ever needed to go to the loo, she will give a few small barks to let me know, and i let her out, this is very rare as she always seems to hold through the night. Lately she has been giving her few barks every night between 4 and 5 am I go and let her out thinking she needs to go the loo, but no she just walks along the decking to the other door, like she does when shes waiting for breakfast. I have tried to ignore her after a few nights in a row now and no she keeps doing it. Its not a continous bark, but a random bark every few minutes. I dont feed her any earlier so she cant possibly think she will get breakfast any earlier surely?? Hubby thinks that now shes in a habit and she will need to spend the night outside to be reminded of her nice soft comfy bed inside- but I cant do it Any suggestions would be great!!! Thanks

I tried to write this last night but I couldnt think of the words to write. Some of you may have remembered Buddy from the rescue threads a few months back now, an 8 year old labby with severely neglected ears that caught my eye from the day I first saw him and stole my heart the moment I met him. He was a hit with my doggy clan when he arrived home with me and from that day he became " my boy" he was with us for a good 6 weeks or more before a perfect family came along for him. As he drove away in the car with his head out the window staring at me as if to say " mum why are you not coming" my heart broke. Whilst I love all my fosters that come here to stay, there was something about the boy that melted me. He had such a rotten life quite obviously and was now being treated as he should be, and he knew he had it good here and thanked me for it, i seen it in his eyes. Fast track a couple of months down the track and Buddys family had decided after many vet visits and behaviour problems that it was best Buddy comes back to us. Buddy since being with them was becoming a bit of a cranky pants out on walks, was suffering seizures, not to mention his hearing was limited and his eyes now developing cataracts. After careful consideration it was decided it was best for my boy to go over the bridge Yesterday we spent the best part of the day in the sunshine, on a blanket under a tree, eating fresh lamb shanks ( him not me)and having belly rubs and snuggling. He was content and beautiful and the closer to the time it got, the bigger the lump in my throat got. I told him about the bridge, how he would run free with all the others that had crossed, there would be no more pain for him and he could eat endless schmackoes and shanks till his heart desired Yesterday afternoon as we lied together in his last moments, Buddy crossed the bridge and a little of my heart went with him. Im sorry boy, I loved you, you knew it. See you again one day

All raw generally, only cooked if its our left overs, but otherwise raw

My girls eat most fruit and veg that i give them, will pick out spinach though. They love carrot, apple, celery,banana's and pears. broccolli is also a fav, they like it raw though instead of palming off steamed left overs to them cauli and fresh beans they also love

Just picked up some interecepter spectrum at petbarn of all places. usually get a 6 pack for large doggies for around $43 from Priceless ( always the best price around i find) Just picked it up for $35 at pet barn, a saving of $20 off their normal price. Apparently its a promo to get people to switch from the tabs to chews. A bargain anyway all the same, other sizes are also on sale too this month

Can anyone recommend a dog behaviourist on the central coast NSW please? Colleague at work looking for one that is well recommended. She used one that basically turned out to be a free spirit that wanted her to burn incense and stuff to help soothe the dogs aura etc sorry know i shouldnt laugh, but seriously Anyway a non insense burning behaviourist please?

Thanks for the advice guys, have passed on mostof the comments to my neighbour and she has gone with sharpeis advice and contacted a suggested vet. she will be speyed in 2 weeks time once off heat thanks btw my vet drives a barina

she has been quoted $280 for the dog ( shes a pom) then more if on heat and more again if she is in pup been on heat a week now i believe and mating today

Advise please DOLers Neighbours pom is on heat at the moment and she has had her seperated from the other male pom long story short the kids let the male inside and he got to the girl. You know the rest..... She had her booked in for desexing when she came on heat so has postponed it, as the vet told it was risky to do whilst she is on heat I have never heard of this, however having my girls done young i avoided the whole on heat issue. Now the deed may have in fact been done,shes not to keen on a littler of pups so i suggested desexing now, whilst on heat and or aborting if anything is there How far would she need to be for the vet to know if she is in pup and will desexing her now rid of the pups if its early stages anyway. The other thing she is concerned about is the cost, vet said more if she is on heat and more again if she is pregnant Advise please so i can pass on to her

Hubby has just advised that youngest is now very lethargic and wont get out of her bed, think its time for the vets, she is getting worse

Look during the day you wouldnt know they were sick, still running around like no tomorrow causing grief, its just the mornings that are quite bad, no runny noses, no heavy breathing, just the bad cough first thing when they wake up and one seems to be bringing up mucus, but clear at this stage not an infected colour.

My 2 labbies have contracted kennel cough At the moment they are on benedryl 3 times a day and also active Manuka honey, they dont seem to cough during the days, only early mornings when they wake up Im trying to keep them as warm as possible. Most threads seem to suggest to let them ride it out, the morning cough seems to be sounding no better though. At what point should I see any improvement? Is it always a 21 day virus as suggested in other threads. Is it worth a trip to the vet for meds or keep going with what i am doing? Thanks muchly

no we dont lock him in the shed. we put a crate at the door of the shed.. so he can play and poo outside the shed and also i put a very large kennel inside the shed for him to sleep with lots of cushion and he really likes it =) so he is confined to the shed but can go into the crate to poo you mean? or the crate is in the shed and he has access to the yard when he wants?

Hi All, Just moved up to the Central coast around 5 months ago and have had 2 mad rushes to the vets in this time. Both times I went to the same vet ( closest to home) and whilst the general care was fine, i found it a little lacking and rushed. Nothing like my old vet in Sydney I also enquired to this new vet about desexing pricing and found th cost to be I have since enquired at another vet to be quoted $90 cheaper. Whilst im happy to pay the price for a good vet, can anyone recommend a great vet in the WYong area? Where the price matches the service? Thanks

:D when my little girl lab was a pup she she shredded a $160 pair of shoes the first week we had her then at through the gyprock in the laundry wall one morning when i left her alone, ate a hole in the kitchen wall also and ate the soles off my sneakers! she also chewed anything else she liked, the hose was her favourite! oh and I will never forgot the morning i went out the back and she had emptied a whole papasan chair on the back lawn and was rolling in the stuffing. ;) but she is 2 now and other than the odd sock when she gets a bee in her bonnet shes not naughty at all i wouldnt change her for the world Good luck with your puppy and remember no matter what they ruin, they always make you smile

Hi All, As a regular spot on user for fleas for both dogs and cats I have never had a problem with it until now. I saved a 5 year old female lab from a backyard breeder 2 years ago and she advised me that the dog reacted to spot on treatments so dont give them to the dog. The dog was obese and kept in disgusting conditions, she used the dog to line her own pockets with money so i thought to myself shes probably never flea treated her in her life! When she had her intial vet check the vet advised how uncommon it was for dogs to react to spot on flea treatments, so we tried her and it was fine. 2 years later and no problem until now, We treated her 2 weeks ago and I have slowly noticed scabby sores on her since. Well last night i was giving her nightly belly rub when I noticed something on the back of her neck ( scruff area) where I had put the spot on has actually burnt her skin! :p The patch is red and inflammed and moist and just gross! I tried to bath it for her but she wouldnt let me touch it! ( this was 11pm so no vet in the area at that time) I hadnt noticed it before because her coat so so thick! I feel horrible for not noticing sooner and immediately know i can never use this brand of flea treatment again! Has anyone ever had something similar happen? Is there an oral flea treatment other than capstar which has to be used very often ( more than usual spot ons) as far as I know! I was thinking of clipping the fur around the area to give it time to dry and heal properly, and perhaps bathing it in something although its gonna sting!! My younger lab has never a problem with this treatment either. Please Help! :p

Hi All, Was wondering what all you dog lovers knew about fleas and dogs that love swimming! We recently moved from Sydney up to the coast, close to the beach and also now have a pool The dogs are in there every chance they get and are at the beach swimming every other day. We used to use frontline on them in sydney with no problem but now we are up here, doesnt seem to be doing the job. Is it because we are letting them swim constantly?? Its such a shame that we will have to keep them away from the water so they are not scratching all the time. Help please.

To me sounds like your overfeeding. I have 2 female labs, 1 is 6 and 1 is 20 months. But I have only had the 20 month old since newborn. Since she was a pup she has always been on 2 meals a day but would be happy to eat 10 meals a day if you let her. Both my girls have a cup of bikkies and a neck in the morning then for dinner another cup of bikkies with 1 1/2 cups of raw vegies for dinner. My little one is 20 months and 25kg, she was the runt of the litter and is lean but you cant see bones. Vet always says how great she looks. Trust me i know those sad eyes that say mumma give us more, but the weight is hard to get off once its on! my 6 year old girl i adopted last year and she was used as a breeding machine and ready to be euthanased till i stepped in she was 40kg and never walked a day in her life. She was reduced to 1 cup of bikkies and fresh fruit and vegs and daily walks and is now down to 30kg and is fed as above. she is walked daily and you wouldnt think it was the same dog! good luck

Hi all, Just need some advice from other K9 owners. I have a 5 year old Lab and a 13 week old Lab. My 5 year old i have only recently adopted and before i had her she was used for breeding purposes and fed a diet of rice and cheap & nasty dry dog food. She was never exercised. Now i have her we are on her way to being healthy We have her walking a minimum of an hour a day 7 days a week Under vet instructions she is on 3 cups of dry food only per day,his advice was basically feed her the best i can afford.I do not know what this is though. I started her on supercoat,changed to her beneful(heard the bad stories)then switched her back to supercoat only to hear this is full of peanut husks. My pup is on supercoat puppy but the main ingredient for the pup formula is the meat so she is ok for now. After this brief history my question is.......what brand of dry food do you all recommend? Yes i know about Eukanuba and Royal Canin but they are a little pricy for me. Can i use these with a mix of something else?What do you suggest? Granted i have not tried the eukanuba or the royal canin to see how much it would actually cost me per day to feed them,but just wanted other opinions thanks to all who reply in advance for your help
