OH and I are considering options to contain the dogs when we move to our acerage. Initially the run will be only temporary - once the house is built we will have a properly fenced, secure house yard for the dogs. I have been looking at the PetSafe kennel runs (These Ones) but they looked a little flimsy when I watched the video on how to erect them. Does anyone have them??? Are they sturdier than they look - or is there a way to reinforce them???? Or does anyone know of any similar product on the market, albeit a little more sturdy??? I would probably need to buy at least two (I think), as the dogs will be in the run during work hours. Cheers

Ha ha - my mum has piccies of her "grandpuppies" in amongst those of her many grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. I think she is resigned to the fact that she won't be getting any grandkids outta me ;) . My sister hates that there are pictures of my dogs next to her kids

- Insisted that we need to put a patio up because Jonty didn't have any shade outside - Insisted that I needed a bigger car 'cause it was distracting to drive with Jonty on the back seat of my Pulsar licking my ear - Insisted Jonty needed a friend - enter Lulu :D - Insisted the dogs don't have enough room in the backyard, now that there are two of them, so we need to move - hello 5 acres - Planning the new house, which will be on stumps, I've insisted that there is a ramp at the rear of the house rather than stairs, so the doggies can have easy access well into their old age. - Taken time off work for emergency vet appointments, left "important" meetings when they escaped - luckily I have an understanding workplace. Oh and I'm not that insistent - just very, very persuasive

An old boyfriends parents had a Pharoah Hound - Cleo (probably not very original ) - she was an absolutely gorgeous girl and to me seemed cat like obsessed with cleaning herself Definitely a breed on my future list ;)

We have a nester too - although I think ours is a Laughing Dove They certainly do pick strange places to nest Lucky for her (him?) I don't use that light very often or it'd be scrambled babies. They are nesting just outside my laundry door and as I only go out that side on the weekend, I keep forgetting they are there. There is usually one on the nest and another close by within view. There was drama on the first day I saw the nest and called my step-son out to see it. All of a sudden there was much fluttering and flapping of wings and feathers flying as a kite/small falcon of some description swooped in on the nest and chased the dove around our backyard and into our fishpond. Kite/Falcon thing went flying into our pool fence then took off - though could be seen in the distant sky circling above for some time after. Dove was floating in the fishpond, OH scooped it out with a shovel and it flew off onto the neighbours fence, where it sat with it's buddy for a while before coming back to the nest. This episode certainly explained the mysterious pile of grey feathers I found in the backyard (that the dogs don't have access too) some months ago - looked like a birdie crime scene . And to think I want to move to the country so I can see more wildlife, when I have all this happening in my backyard.

Wow. Thank you for the detailed reply. I had often wondered why Bloodhounds are not used by SES / Police given their success in this area in other countries. The situation you mentioned above had bought this query once again into my mind. It does seem odd that the Police / SES would not invest in this area. Given the police have expanded the dog squad from being only GSD General Purpose dogs to also include Malinois for GP and Labs for PAD (drugs) - perhaps they will come around eventually - especially for missing persons. I have had a good read of your website - very informative I will take you up on your offer of a visit one day once we move house. I see you have a litter soon, so will leave it to well after that. Although not my own unfortunately, (although my lineage are behind them), I am sure their owners don't mind me posting this photo (we are very close friends). Wow. That is fantastic. What a breeder! I wouldnt expect it but sure wouldnt say no if it was offered. Love the bit about his sheepskin puppy blankie Obviously only for those that lived locally of course, but it was a great chance to see the breeder and the other pups every week and make sure we were on the right path with training and diet. Also I guess she could keep an eye on her babies too Great for socialising as well. Pretty much just covered things like basic obedience and grooming (although he still won't let me cut his nails ). Also just remembered got a draft copy of the trainers dog training manual that she was putting together for her puppy class, and she always had handouts for us on things like dog behaviour The best part was the all in play session 4 or 5 ridgie pups and a husky pup (one of these things is not like the other ) Just for you: Puppy then: Puppy now (turns 3 on Monday ):

When we got Jonty as well as the standard folder with breed info, feeding, health, grooming, training, pedigree, photo of mum & dad etc. we also got: Copy of The Rhodesian Ridgeback in Australia by Pauline Sadler; Bag of his food and a container to keep it in; 10 training sessions with the breeder and a trainer (this was a new concept and we were the test group :D ) - was lovely to catch up with his litter mates; His sheepskin puppy rug - still has it only his head is the only part of him that fits on it now

Was a little surprised actually at how few Bloodhound breeders there are in Aus, when I first started looking at them. They are a beautiful breed, and it's good to know there is a dedicated group of breeders out there. Definitely my next breed
