Your right. it does make sense. i have been so concerned about getting him exercised and not working one on one with the basics. I will take a step backwards and put some work in as I have been setting him up to fail. He is desexed and fully vaccinated. Thank you for your advice. It woke me up

Hi I adopted a 10 month old Border collie cross a few weeks ago. He has not put a foot wrong since we got him, no barking, no jumping, no digging, walks well on lead but his recall is basically non existent and it is driving me mental. Todays walk was total hell and it is getting worse as his confidence grows. He doesnt stray too far as he stays close to my other dog but he will only come just outside of arms reach at the park and it takes me about 10 minutes of excited voices and running the other way and laying on the ground until I can get him close enough to grab. If a bike goes past then I have no hope in hell. I need to get this sorted asap. we are about to move onto acreage and if he has no recall he can not be around livestock and may have to go. He is brilliant in every other department and I want to be able to exercise him off lead but stressing about him is doing my head in. I uaully walk with my toddler as well who I cant just abandon to chase the new dog. ahhh any ideas to start with? He is not overly food or toy driven which doesnt help. And just out of curiosity when does all the excessive face licking and mouthing other dogs faces start to wear off?

Hi All, I have a 12 month old male desexed border collie, for the past few months he has been jumping on our side fence whenever our neighbour is in their backyard. He doesnt bark or growl and he has never made it over the fence but soon as he hears any noise over that fence he is up and down and manages to get his head over. If I'm home and tell him to stop he leaves it alone. But I can tell from the marks on the fence that it is happening frequently. I spoke to my neighbour who is elderly and he is not happy at all. I explained to him that i am sorry and offered to replce the fence with a higher one(which is a hundred years old) My dog is not doing any damage, But my neighbour has cracked it and now refuses to even look in my direction. With no support from my neighbour who only needs to talk to the dog to get him to stop, I'm lost. I know its my dog and my problem and i am desperate to fix it. Its not an agressive thing, its more curiosity. I am paranoid whenever I leave that house. I have tried to look ito some sort of barrier (electronic etc) but i can not find anything for a single fence. Anyone have any ideas for my sanity and a happy neighbour) As I said this is mainly happening when i am not home.

I have an 8 month old Border Collie. he is a lovely well behaved dog in every other way but for the constant and I mean constant jumping. I have tried everything i can think of and everything recommended on this board but nothing seems to be working, One thing i have not tried is the water squirter. Anyone think this may have some effect? Ignoring and disciplining have not worked so far, i have tried every tone of voice under the sun. He has now started jumping during walk times, which is really embarssing at traffic lights and even worse after he has had a swim. i end up looking like a muddy swamp creature. He has also started to chuck in some nipping while he is at it. he love to try and grab sleves and hoods. My husband is continuously bent over in pain as my lovely puppy has great aim and at full speed jumps at his groin area. Funny the first few times but I would like kids soon and i need him fertile....lol. As I said lovely puppy in every other way. i just don't know what else to try.
