How Would A Cavalier And German Shepherd Go Together?
~Shepherd~ replied to Sunnyflower's topic in General Dog Discussion
What aggression issues , I am talking about prey drive??? My girl has plenty. No birds in our yard now. We have a tiny Whippet bitch a 3 month old baby, a 2 year old and 4 year old. Balls fly everywhere, kids run everywhere, people visit with fluffy dogs. My bitch is obedient, under control, has manners, and plenty of prey drive. She has 45 minutes of 'chasing' her ball off lead a day whilst running around WITH the kids and not after them. She does not chase the Whippet, its the opposite. The Whippet is rude and dominant but displays excellent manners around people. Kimba (Shepherd)is extremely intelligent hence the control I am able to have over her. -
You would need to be careful regardless. Some of the most bling bling website are masks to the dogiest of breeders, as are black and white small print ads.

If the breeder was contactable then they would have been called as is done with the all the cases going to ADR and MDBA. Whats with the posts? Geees Louise, didnt see your hands raised.

Thats not aggression Chewy thats true GSD traits remember -
I should have added in the poll re. seperate section. Makes sense, if there are enough breeds to compare.

Not possible to contact the breeders? Why? Are the dogs from a registered breeder? If this was one one my breeding I would sure want to know!! You are going to place a pregnant bitch with someone that rescues dogs and probably visits pounds on a regular basis and could bring any type of disease home? Does this person have experience whelping pups? What about experience with Brach breed pups? Contact Darryl and Janet of Boxberry. They have the facilities and knowledge to at least help. Its been said that they are sorted. Trish and Julie have enough experience to make the decision on where they go.

I have a very undersized Whippet bitch and a 16 month old GSD bitch (a white one). The Whippet is very rough with the GSD and knocked her flat chasing the ball. Depends on how much work you want to put in to make the situation workable. Obedience and discipline from day 1 and you will be fine. -

Im sure the pounds and rescue would see the point in knocking them off, or reducing them at least. What breeds need more breeders? take a few under your wing and educate them in breeding? I would be gobsmacked if all registered breeders had this attitude. My rescue group, for one, would love to see the BYB, PF, pet shops and unethical breeders knocked off. Basically you are saying that it's not up to you to try and knock these people off. Who is it up to then? Should it be left to rescue groups to fight this battle? Well if ethical registered breeders are not going to stick up for themselves and promote pedigree dogs and educate the public on why they should buy a pedigree dog and not a BYB, PF or pet shop dog then why should rescue groups continuously try to educate the public about ethical registered breeders? Next time someone rings up and asks me about puppies, we recieve at least 4 calls a week and the same amount of emails, I wont bother telling them about the differences between an ethical registered breeder and a PF/BYB/Pet Shop or who to contact about sourcing a puppy that comes from an ethical registered breeder. The breeders do stick up for themselves and they do promote their breeds and the enjoyment that goes along with owning a well bred, pedigree animal. true, but many promote their dog amongst themselves. Whats the point in that?

Ive just emailed the MDBA with this link to perhaps get things moving, or gain further advice. I know there is a lot going on atm, so when the time is right. I'm going to start putting some ideas forward to the TP. Time to start being productive again I think. Anyone want to help me?

When I read our local and need a 'trade' builder or something, I only go to the Little emblem ads that say they are pare of some ethical governing body. Perhaps a reg. breeder symbol should be developed to go along side the ad like the MDBA one or something. Wonder if the ANKC would be interested in developing something or the MDBA would allow their symbol used. People will get the drift sooner or later.

I think they do. They also supply family pets and also have the balls to write that purebreds are inbred for showing purposes. I just read an ad for a 'snow shepherd' in victoria. It was really convincing to those who dont know about other stuff. So there is your competition. It needs to be corrected and balanced.

I just called a Melbourne pet store as I read something suss. She told me her 'English Staffies' were from a reg. breeder and she has seen the pedigree. She said they dont get in trouble, but the breeder does if caught. What the? She then proceeded to tell me she was a reg. breeder.

agreed, but I know there are a lot of negative feelings around advertising via the TP. Not usually by the general public though, it's one of the places many families look for a pet. I should have specified, totally agree. Often thats the publics first visiting spot.

x 2 :D x3 If would be good if they could have a separate section for registered puppies though, instead of being in amongst all the BYB puppy ads. I will probably be advertising my litter of Aussie terrier pups in there in a couple of weeks time, I will see how I go with the DOL listing first & a few other websites I have listed them on. How would you word it to sound better than the BYB's? Would you have to include a price to remain competitive I think by stating that you are an ANKC registered breeder & that you are offering purebred pedigree pups that come with VCA registration papers, makes your pups stand out better straight away from a BYB puppy. I would also state that my pups come with breeder support for the life of the pup, & also put in the advert all the extras I offer, like 7 days worth of food, Info about the breed, toys for the pup, a puppy blanket, a book on caring for & training pups. All these extras make my puppies look so much more attractive in comparison to a BYB pup that is advertised for the same price & come with none of these extras, & believe me there are so many BYB litters advertised at the moment, many of them x breeds that are priced at the same price & even more as the price I am asking for my pups. I also forgot to add that I don't have an issue including my price ,as it is the same price that most registered Aussie terrier breeders are asking for their pups at the moment. good on you! There is nothing wrong with advertising a price. You can either afford it or you cant, and ultimately you find out the price anyway. Why stuff around?

It does distinguish you in the eyes of a purebred enthusiast, but the General public would not have a clue about the ANKC and possibly assume the dog is registered' with the council. It does not make them bad homes as they dont get purebred talk, just ignorant.

I dont think so, unless there was an equalish number, and I dont think thats going to happen in the near future. Would reg. breeders add their price, or would this also seem "cheap and nasty".
-
because the minimal amount of reg. breeder advertisers seems to be a reflection of the attitude in the OP
-
I would really like to get more reg. breeders views on this.

I am all for it, I wish more would do it. Imagine comparing the 2 ads of health tested pedigree vs the other. I have had many doscussions with people regarding this, including horse people. If it was half BYB half reg, in time it would possibly knock the BYB's off. I honestly wish more breeders would advertise against the BYBs instead of remaing in the exclusive zone of a razzy website turning their noses up at the TP. Reg breeders should get 10% discount on adverts. Anyone good at letter writing?
