How much does the private rescue man cost? I was going to ring in the morning and get a quote. Our last 3 rescues have cost us near $1800 and our income is a sausage sizzle once every few months. Kirty suggested Mr Rescue would be very expensive so we will wait and see. It would be the best solution but our funds are VERY limited especially if something turns up and needs vetwork or training in the next week. Does anyone else have any idea of private dog catcher costs? -

you have been such a wonderful help GSD's and I know exactly where you are coming from. He has a collar on, he was someones joy. Imagine reuniting wioth his loving owner (hopefully loving), or worst case rehab and rehome with a comfy bed at a masters feet. I hope once he is caught, he isnt too far gone. I just hope we can do something. Now we know his home is a car bonnet, it makes me sick to think he may have been that way for months. WHat to do though???? -

Oh wow, you are a bloody legend GSD's. Great work. Does anyone have time to make a few phonecalls tomorrow, those of you who have been out to the area so you can put things in to perspective? Its going to be impossible for me next weekend as OH is training away Thursday-Sunday and with 3 girls 5 and under, its not appropriate to take them. My parents are in Africa so I have nobody. In fact I think I will need to be rescued. I am waiting for Bilbo to get back and brainstorm as this is her case So he is obviously reasonably safe but we dont want him to run off or shift camp so we need to be very clever on our approach. -

eeeeewwwww, @ visual -
we certainly are, we have 2 rippers but because our dogs come in waves people go elsewhere. We had nothing, then 3. One was adopted quickly, one was adopted yesterday and our awsome DOL Enigma carer has still got one in FC. Had 2 people waiting to FC for a week or so, then that went to another all breed rescue to get something quickly and we cant do that. Its a good thing for the dogs though, you dont want too many rescues in your chosen breed!

Thats ok, its too far for you and probably too difficult unless we have a good plan of attack, best to investigate the companies in his zone and go from there. You would be great to have though if we get something realistic in place, Im sure you would be used to all sorts, dogs that is!! -

Just got off the phone to Bilb and we were all excited about Kirtys trap link, then..................................................EDIT. Argggggggggggh. Our group cant afford a private rescue man and the council have no hope. Bilbo suggested getting the Northern Obedience Club to have a search after their class or something?...... Other than that we need to speak to the rest of our group to come up with a plan. It would be the most fantastic feeling to hand back a dog to its owner if it has been truly lost for weeks. What to do? Hopefully someone on the breed clubs that fan has contacted will know more. Fingers crossed. -

I agree. The area is very large & just 2 people on their own with all that tall undergrowth have got no hope. Jan cant get out til tomoz night, I'll ring her in a minute. How many could we get together for tonight? If we cant get more than 8, do you think we should look at doing something else GSD's? I dont know the area but can imagine in an industrial area it will be VERY difficult. -

Update from GSD's in breed sub forum Just back from the search. Man !!!! What an adventure. We wore gum boots & wet weather gear because it rained over night & there's a constant drizzle out. Got down the bottom of the embankment & I notice some dog poos that weren't there yesterday. One old(ish) & one fresh (this morning I'd say). So I thought "He's been here recently & he's obviously had something to eat." OH walked one way, I went the other. On my walk, I noticed & big pile of commercial mushrooms someone had chucked down the embankment, (looks like tipped off the end of a tip truck) so that possibly answers the food question. Lots of rain over night, so the creek is fast flowing & he's got clean water to drink. We had been very quiet today, because he seemed to get spooked & was a total no show after he first nicked off when we constantly called him yesterday. We were just about to go & OH called out to him. Across the creek, there was this cut off roof from a car ... and out he popped !!! He didn't run in fright, but trotted off in the tall undergrowth. I stayed on one side of the creek in case he came back over & OH crossed over to search for him. He's pretty penned in due to the high cyclone fencing, but the area is quite huge & he's as cunning as a sh!t house rat because he's clearly got all his hidey holes worked out for a quick escape from the humans. We searched & searched for what seemed like forever & at one stage, I thought I'd just pop over the creek & give OH a hand in case we could box him in. Misjudged this "itty bitty" creek didn't I & before I knew it ..... up to my frilly bits in water. Didn't make over the other side & sloshed about trying to spot him. So anyway, he's still there & looks in pretty good shape. OH says it looks like he's made a good shelter under the car roof, so if nothing else, he's given away one of his hiding spots & it will be a good place to start searching from. Just 2 people isn't going to get this boy due to how quick he is & how tall the growth is. We'll either need a team of people or else a bitch on heat if he's still entire. He's made himself right at home & he's not ready to surrender himself just yet. I'm, glad it's raining ATM. With the height of that growth & the nearby creek, I'm concerned about snakes if we can't catch him if the weather heats up. Sloshed back up the embankment & when I got back to the car, watched for cars while I stripped from the waist down & rode home with the dog's park towel wrapped around my waist. As I said .... what an adventure !! Sumos Mum has put signs up and is offering to help with her older daughter. Thanks guys -

Fantastic. I love it. How beautiful. The whippet has had 2 newborns in her 3 short years, Kimbas first. Prick eared on the first few cries then never raised again. Wait til they start rolling around on the bunny rug, the dogs show a lot of interest initially as its strange new behaviour, then they are right again. 3rd big change is not too far away with crawling, I have been getting my 2 and 5 year old to show the baby how its done. I Will really up the supervision to max again until the change is accepted as its quite easy to become too laid back with indoor dogs.
