WOW, what a beautiful puppy! Congratulations. Please keep us posted. You lucky thing!!!! Well socialised GSD's make the most wonderful family companions, my girl has worn a few tutus and hot pink socks in her time, and she only just 18 months! If you include my dogs, I have 5 girls 5 and under :D Best of luck with it. Not sure what other GSD people think but I wouldn't bust those balls until 12 months or more. Good luck with it all, and remember those updates

Wandering Dog Update 14/12/2010
~Shepherd~ replied to Bilbo Baggins's topic in General Dog Discussion
Big mob of us turned up, again with our professional catchers x 2. No sign. They think he has changed Dens with the disturbance and to leave all quiet for 2 weeks I hope he goes back to his den as there are acres and acres to cover. If we don't end up getting him in the next 2 goes, we will refund everyone's donations after we sort out an amount with our amazing catchers. They are wonderful guys with huge hearts and wont give up on this either. Thankyou to all the wonderful volunteers that turned up today, and all the extra work you have done during the week, feeding, investigating, travelling to shelters, enquiries and just being so positive. Plenty of nominations will be going in to the MDBA awards on behalf of us this year. Thankyou. -
Hello, my name is Angela and I am a pedant. ;) Another one that really irks me is the all too common use of "draws" when "drawers" is meant. I indignantly corrected an ad agency on that one once and the reply came back : ..."and I would like to drawer to your attention...". I bet that was a big hit around the office. [attempts sarcasm] Does that make me a card carrying member of Pedants Anonymous? (You can be Chairperson, Chewbacca!) nah, carnt spell well enuff. I no whitch words go wear butt

Did you get the email and PM???? yes i did, I replied by email. sorry, cant reply straight away all the time as not always near a computer yes, she doesnt know that normal people are not glued to a computer because we all are see you tomorrow, and thanks. -
I am after the names of some book titles that people have enjoyed reading on GSD's. I would prefer breed specific as I have enough general stuff. The brain cells are starting to heal now (yes, they are). I would prefer books that are not so much training based but more on psychology and behaviour. Thanks

German Shepherd Died In Tragic Accident
~Shepherd~ replied to Riley'n'Mia's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am so sorry, poor baby. Try not to relate sleep with death, kids don't get that words have multiple meanings, only the one that relates to their association. My kids get excited when a rainbow appears and talk to our lost boys Squid and Elliot who are playing on it. What an awful time for your family, huge hugs. -
What Do Puppy Prices Make You Think Of Breeders?

I wouldn't either :D I'd much rather work on a bond type system. -

Ivy is a well balanced girl, she doesnt show any physical signs of agression at all, in fact she is very social. She barks whilst still doing her job if that makes sense. She doesnt look worried or anxious. Its bizzare, could be a confidence or protective (guarding) issue, but certainly not a warning type aggro bark. She is very responsive one on one. Very noice pup.

Wandering Dog Update 14/12/2010

We are going out this weekend for a thorough search. I am thinking the disturbance has made him shy off. Cross fingers that is the case. SO upsetting he was basically caught last week, and one small oversight lost him. -
Is there a time delay, is it 4.15 Bris time?

nothing to do with being a super mum. Its a dog for goodness sake, you dont have to be Einstein to work it all out. Strangely Chewy, significant numbers of the population either can't work it out or can't be bothered to try. Adolescent Labs can be a handful and the number surrendered and rehomed is testament to that. Yes, a dedicated dog owner can pretty much raise any breed well around kids. Sadly not all dog owners are dedicated and more don't realise the importance of teaching bite inhibition or manners to puppies. We don't know the OP's expectations for a dog, nor do we know what sort of effort she's prepared to put in. Once we know that, more useful advice can be given. I am aware of that and see it all the time. THe OP post sounds responsible, actually here to seek expert advice prior to purchasing a PB Lab. I get your point, she is obviously looking for a family dog, so perhaps other breed suggestions would be of use to her also. My Whippet was a bigger pain in the arse that the GSD at the same age. Personality has a lot to do with it also , not just the breed, so focusing on thorough investigation of the breed of choices parentage would also be of benefit to the OP.

I know all breeds need training and any breed can be boistrous, but there's a huge difference between owning a labrador pup and a whippet pup, esp when it comes to children in the household. I'd be more inclined to wait until the youngest child is at least 4yo. Preferalby older though. Just my opinion. Good luck with whatever you decide. Agree. You have to remember that labs are working dogs and are very active. With 3 young kids, how much exercise and training can you honestly give it? Some people can give enough, some people can't, only you will know... ETA: and I agree with PF - what are you looking for in a dog? what can you give it? Labs are great dogs for the right people, but there are many labs in rescue because people thought they are great family dogs that don't need much training or exerecise. we have a GSD also, got her as an older pup. Not at all hard to manage if you get your priorities right.

How rude, who cares about the name its the home that matters. Im sure the lab will get a lot more love and attention than many large scale breeders and animal collectors I know. Our rescue has placed a WGSD 8 month old pup in to a home with six kids including toddlers. We have a waiting list of over 15 people just in Melbourne, and our rehoming condition with this pup was that he must go to a home with kids. They are first time GSD owners, and this dog is thriving. A good breeder and rescue will educate, prepare and support their buyers so there is no confusion as to what they are getting and also be available to support their buyers during 'difficult' situations. Thinking a home is not worthy of getting a pup due to describing a colour of a coat is BS. Most of the average dog owners I know would call a yellow lab gold. Who cares?
