  1. Thanks Trinabean :) Were you there today? I saw some gorgeous boxers, seemingly all babies for some reason, between 6 and 12 months. I said to one owner "What a gorgeous little boxer pup!" and they laughed and said it was the first time they'd heard her called 'little'. Everything's relative.
  2. Thanks everyone :) Have some lovely photos from the Million Paws Walk today (photos courtesy of Jo Wild Photography) He has been well socialised and is bomb proof with other dogs... This one's just a crack up! I love this big goofy face Before you say anything, yes he is too skinny. He was approximately 10 kilos underweight when I got him 2 weeks ago - 2 down, 8 to go Rolf with Ella. They were both thirsty after the long walk, I didn't get much of my water :) Rolf with chihuahua - I saw a group of chis going past and asked if they were up for a few pics :) Thanks Jo Wild Photography for the awesome photos! :)
  3. OH told me to stop patting him last night I had been absentmindedly stroking his head cos his hair felt nice. You know when the hair is kind of shortish (#4 that's grown out a few weeks) and just feels nice?
  4. Kuges was the same, Ella is the same, don't know about Rolf yet but I wouldn't worry about Ziggy. If you want it off when he's home, just take it off with very little fuss, put it somewhere he can't see it, praise and treats to distract him. If he doesn't wear it all the time, he should be less obsessed. Mine are obsessed because they never have their collars off so I think they feel 'naked' without them.
  5. Yes, I can no longer use ROFL on Facebook without someone telling me I've made a spelling mistake. I'm learning to use LMAO instead.
  6. It was his original name. We actually thought about changing it (imagine calling his name loudly in a park and you get the idea) but it's grown on us so it stays. It's a traditional German name (derivative of Rudolph meaning: famous wolf) so perfect for a German breed (it also makes me think of The Sound Of Music, LOL! I tend to hum "I am 16 going on 17" a lot these days  )
  7. Thanks everyone, I'm over the moon. Have been reading everything I can about danes for years and am so happy to have this gorgeous boy in my life. He also doesn't counter surf, and is not a big drooler! (except when excited or exercising) :)
  8. Sounds like a lovely puppyhood! Happy Birthday Bitty! :)
  9. Thanks :D Very lucky indeed! He is just the perfect dog for our household and fits like a glove :) except for a tendency to tromple garden beds, but I'm sure he'll learn the new rules eventually. Joely (the black and white cat) already bosses him. Indi never will, she's too sweet to boss anybody, she just smooches him. Both cats mill around amongst his legs at mealtimes with no fear and Ella thinks I got him just for her! It's lovely to see them all getting along so well.
  10. Seeing as I mostly hide out in the breed subforums these days, most of you won't know I have a new 'puppy'. OH and I were planning to come to Sydney and Melbourne to meet some breeders in October/November with a view to getting our first pure great dane puppy, but fate stepped in. We're still coming over, but it will now just be a holiday. :) Meet Rolf, a 2yo great dane, rehomed because his owners were shipped overseas for work. I have now had him for two weeks and absolutely love him to pieces :) At the dane beach meet on Saturday his recall to me was already good enough for him to be off leash :) Rolf with my cats (he'd never seen a cat before and this was taken on the first night :D) Rolf and Ella (pic taken on his third night home) I'm proud as punch! EFS
  11. I'm still not quite sure why this is...maybe because we are so isolated from the others, they let us get away with it? Or maybe because we are so isolated, we have more state based loyalty? Weasels, love the agility equipment! Your kelpies must love it too! I don't need agility equipment, I just got Ella a giant toy to play with... Amypie, are you not doing agility anymore?
  12. Great stuff! Did you tell them what you thought of their attitude to dogs, or were you too happy? :D
  13. I think that would have been a lot more effective run with a split screen and showing the contrasting images side by side. Imagine how the people who chose the red glasses would feel seeing the alternative. As it is, they still won't know any better because they didn't see the other side. JMO.
  14. My friend calls her dog's front legs his 'arms', I 'prune' everything from paper to hair. Crossover is fairly normal I think. My OH sometimes picks me up on using single word commands with him "Sit!" or "wait". Generally he answers with "woof"
  15. This. omg I never thought of that... maybe I should go to them? I thought it as soon as I read your post and was going to suggest a meet on neutral ground but keetamouse beat me to it. Even if they didn't think about stealing him, these people sent their lovely loyal old dog out into the streets to take his chances! Do you really want these sort of people knowing where you live? BTW, I think you've done an awesome thing, and I think him hugging your shoe says everything!
  16. That was awesome! What an incredibly clever dog and such a dedicated owner! They clearly have a fantastic bond, which is beautiful to see :) Lovely to see how much he enjoys their routines!
  17. I'm so sorry to hear that she didn't make it. I really feel for you - it's just devastating losing our babies. Huge hugs to you Hope you have someone to take care of you and give you lots of hugs. Run free Lola
  18. That is the sort of experience that will more than likely cause fear aggression, and with what sounds like an idiot owner to boot, the poor girl doesn't stand a chance of being a normal well adjusted dog. Here's hoping I'm wrong.
  19. Thanks everyone :) we adore him and he's bonded with us really well, the first pic of him at the beach was taken 9 days after we got him and he already responded to us well enough to trust his recall Will definitely have to catch up but it won't be for a few weeks at least - I move to D's place in Mandurah in 10 days and am flat stick at the moment! PM me for the next Perth get together though (btw, we have got very slack without arty farty to organise them for us all!) and we'll come Believe it or not, it is 100% safe, as is our human food on the bench. Surprised me too, but we REALLY got the right dog for us, 'cos I'm not a fan of 'counter surfing'. The only problem is he'll occasionally sniff something, but his lips being dangly means they drag across whatever he's sniffing  which is where the 'out of the kitchen' rule comes in! He and Ella love each other to pieces too, so it's a match made in heaven :) ST, will look out for you if I spot the weimaraners at the Million Paws. Rubystar, sorry to hear RATG is not taking off as you'd like.
  20. Thanks Mim, we think he's pretty awesome :) He's a rehome - his previous owners have been transferred to Paris, I found out about him on a dane FB group I'm a member of. His parentage is a bit of a mystery. One of the dane breeders in Perth is also a vet nurse, and the mother came into the vet clinic to have a C section, but the owners didn't want the pups as it was an accidental mating, which suggests at least one of the parents is pedigreed. Anyway the pups were taken home by the vet nurse/breeder and hand raised, so she still has Rolf's brother, and is in touch with the other babies. Rolf and his sister went together. Jump forward nearly two years, when the owners got notice they were being transferred the vet nurse/breeder assisted in the rehoming of Rolf and his sister, and I put my hand up and passed the screening process, and Rolf passed MY screening process: :D
  21. Hi fellow West Aussies, haven't dropped in here for a while but thought I'd pop in and say hello. I will be at the Million Paws walk - will be walking with the Great Dane Lovers Assoc of WA...for a very good reason. Meet Rolf, my new baby boy. :D
  22. My first tears were for the awful state she was in and her obvious fear and confusion, and the pitiful state of her as she got clipped, head down. Then I smiled at her starting to enjoy her bath and the pampering, the little tail wag as she started to realise she was in a good place. Tears again in the final scenes of the video - this time happy tears. If this is doing the wrong thing, then let more people do it.
  23. Sometimes I really really want a 'like' button! THIS post is actually quite judgmental Atanquin. You have not only judged the lady again on whether or not she is a suitable owner for this dog, but have also judged the person who sold her the dog, and have assumed that they didn't inform her about the breed or its training requirements. Perhaps she will learn a lot from her dog, and will enjoy every minute of it. After all, it's not only when they are perfect that we love them, but it is the imperfections that make them so special to us. I have a dog who would on paper probably not suit me, and I certainly felt like tearing my hair out a number of times during the first four or so years, but we both adapted to fit each other and now that she's 10, my heart bursts at how well behaved she can be when she's not being a hypo nutter (and even when she is I just adore her - my crazy silly chicken.) Missing the 'like' button again!
