Hi all, long time no post in here, but I need some help please from Perth Dolers! My friend has a little chi x and is going away for 10 days on Monday. Really late notice but last time she left her in a kennel she dropped from 3.2 kilos to 2.2 kilos - not good! This was supposed to be a small dog specialist kennel but although they have heat lamps they won't let you supply your own blankets with your dog. My friend would really appreciate any recommendations from people who have had a positive experience with kennels in Perth for their small dog. Can anyone help with a recommendation?

These are the jarmies Rolf ordered for himself... Of course since then I have decided he needed another 'going out' outfit in case it's cold and I fell for a brown print with dogs and bones on it (photo to come) This is the squeaky Moose toy that Rolf decided to pick off the shelf in Petstock. He is usually very good but he just LOVED this moose! He pulled it right off its hook! Its squeaker sounds more like a duck's quack. He had half the people there in stitches walking around the shop holding his new toy in his mouth and squeaking! And this is Rolf refusing to eat his dinner... I don't normally follow him around with his bowl but I wanted to show you how OFFENDED he is when you offer him food at times. "I'm not eating THAT!!" Could he get any further into the corner of his couch? Or any more upright? :laugh:

I saw the Children and grief thread and the first words stopped me in my tracks "We have to tell the children about Atlas" and I just thought "Oh No, not Atlas!" You know your dog was a true legend when his passing gets that response from someone on the other side of the country who's never met him. Thank you for sharing so much of your lovely boy with us - his antics, his pyjamas, his striking good looks! One of my DOL favourites. What a nasty insidious disease to steal your boy away from you. I know it's natural to think "if only I'd done (whatever)" but please try to be kind to yourself. It was out of your control and you did all you could and were with him at the end. I'm so so sorry Teebs, my heart is breaking for you and again I'm crying for the loss of a dog I never met. Run free beautiful Atlas

I had tears streaming down my face reading your beautiful tribute to Tara :cry: So much so that I'll face the updates some other day. It's clear she meant the world to you. Haha Kaz! Not a chance my dear! :D The boy is adored here and is not going anywhere! Plus, he and Ella have become inseparable. Liebs, he flatly refused lamb flaps. I've tried everything! I'm happy, he's put on 5 kilos in 7 weeks so it's all good. His weakness is chicken necks so I just supplement his meals with chicken necks regularly and it's gradually working. Naughty Rolf borrowed my laptop today, went online shopping and got himself some more jarmies. How he managed the keyboard with those big feet I don't know but he decided he wanted blue jarmies with monkeys on... I knew I shouldn't have shown him the D&D dog coats facebook page! :laugh:

:laugh: Chezy, yes I've sent a few emails and photos in the first few weeks to let them know their boy is in good hands and is well loved (and maybe just a little spoiled, but in a good way!) They didn't really ask but I sent them anyway. Haven't sent an email for a while now though, was a bit busy and let it slide but that happens anyway, I'm sure they don't expect emails for life. Thanks for the compliments everyone. He is an absolute sweetheart. :) He's 61 kilos now. Some days he just flatly refuses to eat, just looks at his bowl with an expression of distaste or backs away from it as if I'm trying to poison him, strange boy, so it's hard to get the weight on him but we're getting there slowly.

PJs made by D&D dog coats - one of our very own talented DOL members.:) Rolf just adores his warm polar fleece jarmies - we affectionately refer to this one as his clown suit - fabric chosen so he'd be easy to see at night. I think this one's stylish enough to be seen in public! But it hasn't been cold enough during the day yet.

Thanks everyone! He certainly has personality! :laugh: He's also just cracked the 60 kilo mark so we're quite happy with his weight gain. It's been difficult because he's quite fussy so have been learning what he'll eat, what he'll turn his nose up at, and what won't stay down or will rush through. Have now settled on chicken mince, kibble and lots of chicken necks! He has maybe 5-8 more kilos still to gain. :) You can see his ribs quite clearly in the beach shots that were taken a month ago by Over it Photography, but in the salt flats photos taken this weekend, his ribs are covered. He does have a bit of a hollow look though as he hadn't eaten for 24 hours before the photos were taken 'cos he was feeling a bit funny in the tummy. I had tried to give him beef mince mixed with the chicken during the week but have now learned it's not worth it. Chicken he wants, chicken he gets.:laugh:

Hi all, moved house, lost internet but am back with more Rolf pics from our latest dane play dates!! "The ultimate happy face!" This boy loves to run! Unfortunately about 3 seconds after this shot was captured, Rolf zoomed past me, flinging sand up into my camera's lens machanism and that was the end of my camera. Thankfully the awesome Over It Photography was there to capture these three photos (among others) :) "OMG Scary rock!!" (Rolf at the front, his friend Vader at the back) "It's a race!" (Rolf and his friend Malika) And some photos courtesy of one of the other dane mums, taken at a great dane playdate this Sunday at some nearby salt flats. "Ella + dane slobber = eeewww!" "She just loves her mum " "Rolfie!" "Charge!" How many danes can you count in this photo? A tip - Ella's not in the pic, the small figure at the back is a 5 month old dane pup, and the one that looks like a kangaroo to the right is my crazy Rolf! :laugh: "My two babies" "Ella gets some dane therapy"

I'm surprised no one else has said it - photographer, stylist and chihuahua owner need a big smack. It's clear that the chi is terrified, they should have chosen a more confident chihuahua. Idiots. At least Izzy looks good.

Hey NCarter, have you been hiding out in the papillon thread? :) How's Stella going? Are you showing her as planned? He's 86 cm at the shoulder and currently 58 kilos but should be approximately 65-70 kilos, He's actually a particularly tall dane possibly because he was desexed at 6 months. Danois, unfortunately we'll never know! He also reminded me of Boo when I first saw him but he was bred over here in the west. I know that much.

Yep :) Rolf of the everchanging look - he looks like about 5 different dogs in this thread alone, very expressive face and very chameleon-like depending on angle and ears. :)

There were some of the great dane group I didn't even find! I'm afraid I either didn't cross paths or was distracted by something else when I did. Not a lappie in sight. I did meet one at the vet a few months ago, little cutie :)

I look like a cross between a tree hugging hippie who escaped from the 60s and a sporty practical jeans/trackies wearing kind of person - no idea what kind of dog that means I should have...a saluki? (comes with it's very own fringes to suit the best hippie styling :laugh: ) or just some sort of nondescript rescue mutt? We should be doing this the other way around and asking "What do you think a great dane owner looks like?" :laugh:

The Perth one also has a positive message and promotes rescue and responsible dog ownership. Bugger, I didn't know about that. I did hear a few altercations but wasn't near any of them and don't know how bad they were. Most of the people we came into contact with were great. I walked with the Great Dane Lovers Assoc of WA. We sort of got split up into splinter groups as we went through the bottleneck at the start but if you saw about 5-6 people with black danes walking together Cavstar, Rolf and I were among them. I've put a bunch of photos from the day in Rolf's intro thread, and also listed as many breeds as I can remember from the day so I won't double up here, except for this one of Rolf with a chihuahua. :)

I certainly am lucky! :) As for impeccable, that might be taking it a bit far! :laugh: But if I wanted a robot, I'd have got myself a robot. We love them as much for their imperfections as their good manners. He is wonderful with other dogs but I have bruises where he keeps slapping me with a paw for more attention, the big galoof. He definitely tests the boundaries every so often - are you SURE I'm not allowed on the bed? :laugh: Oops, forgot to say, you have a new dog? Cute faces, affies! I'm sure they were the inspiration for the ewoks in Star Wars :laugh: Will look out for you too. :)

Thank you! :) We're still coming! The Great Dane Lovers Assoc of WA has all the info on dane friendly pet sitters! Or he might have just been completely overwhelmed! They all look half crazy as you walk towards the beginning, but then they just sort of get over it - too much stimulation and they don't know what to do so surprisingly everybody seems to walk fairly calmly. The range of breeds was impressive. I saw newfies, a couple of landseer newfies, boxers, staffords, irish setters, greyhounds, a bassett, beagles, dachshunds, a very cute little bull terrier puppy that was playing with the danes, min pins, iggies, whippets, chis, a vizsla, old english sheepdogs, borders, kelpies, a mastiff, bullmastiffs, dobes, rotties, german shepherds and a group of 4 or 5 white shepherds, deerhounds, irish wolfhounds, labs, goldies, poodles, schnauzers, a few sibes, a malamute or two and I'm sorry I'm not very good at identifying the fluffy ones cos I can't see the dog for the fur but there were lots of different ones! And mutts of course, lots of loveable mutts. :) ETA...and weimaraners, pugs, salukis, dalmatians, cocker spaniels and a springer spaniel, a cluster of Bernese mountain dogs, a dogue de Bordeaux, cavaliers, shar pei, a PULI (!! most unusual dog of the day) and Aust cattledogs and how could I have forgotten the cutest English pointer (I wanted to take him home, he had the most soulful eyes and gave gorgeous cuddles!)
