  1. I dont know why people have a dog if theyre gonna keep it outside I carnt understand it at all.If its winter how much people contact does the dog get? Most people and that includes kids dont spend much time outside if the weathers not good and theres not many hours of daylight anyway. On a cold rainy day just whos gonna spend time with the dog in the yard?Plus dogs kept outside by themself always get so excited when anyone goes outside so if youve got young kids the dog will go nuts when then go out to play coz itll be so glad to see someone. Your yardll probably cop a battering as well coz a bored stafford left on his owns not a happy chappy.

  2. The cat shouldnt be in your yard full stop. You could try turning the hose on it every time you see it but if it still keeps coming in then get a cat trap from the council.I bet your neighbor wouldnt be to pleased if your dog kept getting in her yard.

I like cats to but they should be kept on their own property and not let roam

  3. Your pup really shoud be getting soft bones where it can eat both the meat and the bone. If your pup can not fully consume the bone as well as the meat you could be setting him up for muscle and bone problems due to his calcium (bone) and phosphorus (meat) levels being out of whack.

    Soft bones ....

    lamb

    chicken

    turkey

small briskit bones would be good as well

  4. If your gonna be leaving him in the yard all day on his own make sure its puppy proof and theres nothing dangerous he could injure himself with.Pups will chew anything. Also make sure no one can see in your yard from the street. You might have to keep the doggy door open for a while till he learns to go outside to the toilet then teach him how to open the door its sort of two different things to learn

  5. i am hoping that he will get used to the doggy door over the first couple of days.

It takes weeks to toilet train a pup usually can be even longer to teach to use a doggy door. Theres no way hell be using the doggy door in a couple of days at 8 weeks he doesnt even have much control of his bladder at that age.

Are you going to have him inside at all otherwise it doesnt sound like youll be spending much time with the pup.

BTW hes a Staffordshire Bull Terrier not an english staffy :o

  6. Probably, but best to ask your vet. I don't use the monthly treatments.

I don't understand if i use intraceptor, why do i still have to use the worming product like drontal every 3rd month? Doesn't intraceptor cover the worming?

You dont have to use drontal or any other wormers if you use interceptor coz it treats all gut worms +heartworm

  7. I am just wondering what the best way to handle this situation is as we want to be able to walk our dogs together and were planning to go to an off leash park together next week, probably not a good idea until we figure out what to do. One DVD I have watched said the best way to introduce dogs was on neutral territory off leash. I know why off leash was suggested, but obviously this is not suitable if one dog is aggressive?

From what you say I definately wouldnt let your dog off leash at a dog park he sounds a bit out of control and I dont think youd be able to get him back if he took off after another dog.He doesnt seem to know how to be able to behave around other dogs either and this will probably get him in to trouble and probably get you in trouble from some of the other owners who dont want a strange dog racing up and jumping all over there dog.

I think he needs to get used to other dogs and needs a lot of training so a few one on one lessons with a qualified trainer and joining an obedience club woyld probably help a lot but itll take time and youll need to do some training every day with him.

  8. Hey Danielle if you do a search theres heaps of threads on toilet training puppys

Id write something but Im just about to leave work

  9. I'd like to see a requirement added that you must provide proof from a dog trainer (and an accreditted trainer or at least a recognised trainer) that you've taken reasonable steps to fix it.

I'd also like to see restrictions applied to e-collars. Also to any kind of correction collar.

We agreed. Do you have that warm fuzzy feeling as well?

Crisovar, I never said it was cruel. If I thought it was cruel then I wouldn't support it at all.

Hey JM this must be the first time ever on dogz that ive agreed with one of your posts :kissbetter:

  10. As long as it's done as a last option I don't care, but I agree with the restrictions on it and if anything I'd like them tightened.

I'd like to see restrictions tightened on shock collars for novices - I see those in the wrong hands as cruel.

Yeah same here.Reading dogz sometimes it comes across like theres no other way to train a dog but use a coller

  11. If you work near home youll be able to drop in during the day and check up on her and feed her.Crate training is good but you wont be able to leave her in a crate all day.Is your yard safe and well fenced?
