Just to be on the safe side Im gonna worm her again tonite with some drontal chews, sounds like the advantage will last ok. Thanx for your help guys

Thanks dogmad looks like my guys will be ok with the advantage then. I got the worm tablets from the supermarket so maybe the vet ones are better I guess I should worm her again before I go. Thanks again Chris

Can anyone tell me how many times you can bath a dog with Advantage on it before it stops working? Im going away for work for about three weeks and the dogs are going to mums and she likes to bath them every week coz shes a clean freak and wont have them inside unless theyre clean. But shes got fleas there coz of the neighbors cats and I have to put Advantage on them to leave them there. Im a bit worried the bathing will dilute the advantage. Also my girl threw up her dinner about 4 hours after I wormed her so does this mean Ive got to worm her again or would the tabletss have worked by then?

I do my two twice a year.

Won't be hard at the moment coz theyre young, but theyll be a real handful when they get older, you gotta get them out to training, just coz theyre little and fluffy and cute doesnt mean that theyre not going to have any problems. All dogs have to be trained, two mini poodles are going to be very active and if you dont train them theyll get up to lots of mischief and you wont be able to do anything with them.

My dog did something like this once and the vet said it was pharingitis (dont think thats spelt right) and he gave her antibiotics and that fixed it up.

LOL my sisters got a cavvie and it drops hair everywhere, especially if they forget to brush her, but shes a lovely dog so it doesny worry them.

I dont think Sticks 1977 has been back to this thread since they posted it, so probably hasnt read any of the replies.

I bought smoked bones once, horrible things but I thought the dogs would like them, one did but threw it all up and the other one wouldnt touch them. Smoked stuff isnt that good for people so its probably not that good for dogs either. I stick to raw brisket bones now.

Thanks for the info molasseslass. I was just thinking that if you bred two lots of high scores together you were maybe lacking in duty of care or something like that coz theres a much bigger chance of getting elbow displaysia if the parents both have high scores than if the parents are both zero, like someone said youd have to be a pretty irresponsible breeder to do it. But then I suppose theres also buyer beware like if you dont do your research and you knowingly buy a puppy that may be at risk, have you got any right to complain if your puppy does develop the disease. Pretty complicated sort of subject. I guess just like with everything else you really need to to do your research before you buy, not much good whinging that youve got a problem if you didnt check everything out before you buy the puppy.

So does this mean that the breeder would be liable for vet costs if one of the puppies got elbow displasia? Beacause they knew that the parents had a problem but still bred the two of them together?

Thanks all for your replies, I have passed on all the info and my mate's gonna use another collar as a backup coz the collar definately comes off, maybe its something to do with the quality of it. BTW his collar was ordered from overseas and it came through customs unopened, the package was marked pet collar and no one queried it. He is also using it in Victoria but his dogs got lots of fur round his neck and you carnt really see it and as my mate says whos going to do anything about it except for an RSPCA inspector and thers not much chance of one of them driving past and also noticing the collar. I dont think the police would bother with a thing like that, I dont even think most of them would know theyre illegal and even if they did I dont think they drive around looking for dogs with prong collars on. Once again thanks guys

My mate has a dog that pulls really hard hed tried everything but nothing worked so because Ive heard them recomended on her I told him to try a prong collar. He didnt want to at first but I got him to have a look at all the posts on DOL and he did some more research and stuff on the net and he ended up buying one. Anyway it worked really good and the dog stopped pulling almost straight away and he was real pleased with it. Then one day he was out walking the dog and it had stopped to have a sniff so he gave a bit of a tug on the lead and the collar just dropped off on the ground. He freaked of course coz even though his dogs good off lead and doesnt run off or anything he was walking along a busy road and if the dog had happened to go on the road hedve been hit no worries. Anyway he thought that he probably hadnt fastened it properly when he put it on, maybe didnt put both bits through the holes just one or something like that. But since then its happened twice, once when he was jogging with the dog and he turned a corner, there was just a bit of light pressure on the lead and it fell off and once he was leaving his house and the dog pulled just a bit to get out of the gate and it fell off again. Now after the first time it came off hes always made sure that its on properly and he always checks that all the links are secure. We actually put the collar on my mates leg and really pulled it hard and yanked it and tugged it but it didnt come off and when you look at it I dont see HOW it can come off, looks real secure to me. But the fact remains that it DOES come off, it seems to come off when there isn't much pressure on it not when you give a correction. Now is this possible or has he got a substandard defective collar, its not a cheap one, cost him over 100 bucks all up with postage. If it is possible, what can he do to make it secure, does he need two collars and two leads or what? Ive never heard anyone on DOL complain about this happening and I did a search but nothing came up so thought Id better make a topic, my mates stopped using the collar coz hes afraid itll come off when hes walking along the highway and his dog will go under a car or something. Thanks for your help guys.

I once went to an introductory session and the guy running it did the hard sell, youd think he was selling Gold Coast apartments or something. We were all recomended to take up the top plans, I think theyre gold and platinum something like that and they were both quite expensive. This guy implied that the lower plans really werent having and that if we joined on a lower plan and then wanted to upgrade it would cost us a lot more than joining a top plan first up. Theyve also got a sort of installment system where you pay it off but this costs a lot more in the end. The instructor I talked to after was quite nice but I decided not to go ahead with it because I probably wouldnt use it all the time and youd really need to to justify the cost. It was alright but I really didnt like the hard sell from the guy running it, made it seem that all they were after was the money. Im not saying theyre not good trainers, but I didnt like the way they tried to make people join up to the more expensive plans and the guy running it was pretty awful, he was the one who made me decide not to do it.

Once dogs are weaned some of them carnt digest lactose which is the sugar in milk, it doesnt matter if its skim or not it still contains lactose and skims actually got more. My girl gets the runs from milk but shes ok on lactose free but my boy can drink whole milk, skim any sort of milk and it doesnt effect him. Maybe just try him with a bit and see how he goes if he gets diarrea try him on lactose free or just dont give him milk at all. Theres a puppy milk in supermarkets as well but its expensinve and pretty crap ingrediants.

I feed necks and wings, always supervize them and everythings cool.
-
Thanks guys, I've been feeding Advance and quite like it but as its never mentioned here I thought maybe I was doing the wrong thing.
-
Ive never seen anyone comment on Advance, I think there's Adult and Energy. Does anyone use/has used it? What did you think?
-
Yeah I found Supercoat pretty bad to, plenty of dog poo around and I had to feed them heaps of it to keep some weight on them. Most people on here recomend Nutro or Eagle Pack but I used to feed Advance and found it quite good. Most of the supermarket food is pretty crap.

My mums got chooks and both my crossbreed dogs would kill them if they got the chance but the chooks are in a secure enclosure so theres no problems. Ordinary chook wire wont keep the dogs out you need much stronger wire cause if the dogs keep jumping up at the wire it weakens it and then theres a hole and the dogll be in. My dogs would kill rabbits or guinea pigs or chooks or any small animal if they got the chance, they caught and killed a possum last week. But theyre great with people and as I say they carnt get at mums chooks so alls well. Lots of dogsll kill chooks if they can get at them youve just gotta make sure they carnt.
-
Oh ok Peibe I didnt realise that, thanks.

From what Ive read and learned on this forum and thats a hell of a lot, dogs dont protect people unless they are trained to do so, in other words protection trained. When a dog behaves like this it is actually protecting itself. Also most of the experts on this forum advise that you dont take pups to schools run by vet nurses cause vet nurses are nurses and usually know next to nothing about dog behaviour, a lot of puppy schools are set up by vets to make extra money and theyre run by vet nurses cause they wont pay the money for a dog behavorist or trainer. Seeing as your dog is a rescue maybe it missed out on socialisation up to 16 weeks which is the crucial period and thats part of the problem. Maybe best not to take the dog back cause the nurse doesnt seem to know much about dogs and what makes them tick. Im only an amatuer in this sort of stuff so please correct me if Im wrong, people like TonyMc and Erny and Poodlefan are the real experts on this forum.

Sorry I shouldnt of said abuse I meant she maybe upset the dog in some way, yeah abuse was the wrong word.

Hey was this dog normal before you went away, I often go away for work and when the dogs cant go to my mums (she goes away to sometimes) Ive got my mates to stay here with the dogs and nothinh like what you describe has ever happened.Unless your friend abused the dog I would say that you mustve had problems with the dog to start with I cant see a normal dog changing like that so quickly. Not trying to cause trouble it just sounds wierd to me. Chris
