Shazzapug - For someone going to the Melbourne Royal for the first time, that little booklet sounds quite daunting! I actually felt quite nervous about going down and all the rules I had to adhere to before even getting into the building! Luckily a friend is letting us follow them in, so we'll be in experienced hands. BiggD - That's what I thought. One year when we went to Sydney, we just went to bunnings and bought cheap chairs. Does Victoria have Bunnings?

Maybe we can just buy some cheap chairs while we are down there. I'm sure others will have some to bring though. There is enough room to sit in chairs though? Brisbane Royal, there's not enough room to sit between the benches and fence. Ok great. Nice to know that it might not be a total waste if it rains! I got my pack and number today. Will have to remember to pack that in my bag so I don't forget it.

I haven't got mine yet, but I'm assuming they'll take a little longer to arrive to QLD. I'll start worrying if I don't have them by this Friday. As we are flying in from QLD, what do you do about chairs at the royal? I will only have one dog, is there the ability to get two benches? My mum is coming with me, so she won't be able to stand all day. I've got a K9+ Large crate, by Sway's measurements, this should fit into the benches for Abby to go into. What happens if it's raining? Are the shows still held outside? My princess doesn't "do" rain.

On the weekend, my little girl was Runner Up Best in Group and Intermediate in Group at the Beaudesert Show Society under Mrs D Daly. She really was a lovely judge and I'm not just saying that because she put my girl up, genuinely nice and went over the dogs and you felt like you actually got value for your show entry. I think it was close for group as she kept looking between Abby and the eventual BIG winner Dachie. She's 22 months old now and maturing nicely I think. We are off to Melbourne in two weeks for the Vic Beagle Specialty and the Royal. It was that exact same weekend last year that Abby was awarded her Best in Group at 9.5 months of age. Must be a lucky weekend for us! ;) Love my special girl.

Sorry, I didn't go last weekend. Chickened out thinking it would be muddy. Apparently it wasn't. I'll be down the Gold Coast tomorrow. We are the second group on after Terriers. Let me know if you will be there!

In my opinion and from what I've personally experienced, I'd rather give a puppy/dog/rescue dog to a gay couple than a family. The dogs that I've seen in gay families are loved and adored a lot, as those couples usually can't have kids. The dogs are involved in everything in their owners lives and doted on constantly. If this is the reason the breeder stopped responding, their HUGE loss in my opinion. Good luck with Alwyn Super cute! The wait to pick up a puppy is horrible. But so worth it in the end.

Ahh yes, sorry! It's me :D That's fine, I'm there this weekend if it's not raining if he wants to come over and try. It depends on if you get a dog or bitch. Abby's only 12 kilos.. But say, a grown mature dog can be up to 14kgs or more. I guess he'll be growing with the dog as it grows too.

Beagle? Usually on early, table dog, around the 12 - 14kg mark and easy to handle. Unless they are a stubborn bitch like mine! My girls are very easy going and love routine.

Where did it come from? I'm guessing someone is going to be in big trouble!

I get very nervous as well and it's only just recently that I think I've started to not get as nervous (only two toilet stops before running in the ring, not 10) that my girl has started showing better and I know it's because she can't feel my nerves down the lead. Catch 22 in my case, I was nervous about her playing up, which made me nervous which made her play up. Now, i don't feel that I get as nervous, she's showing so much better and I am handling better as I'm not nervous about her looking like crap. I still don't eat until I've been in the ring. This sure does suck when you are second group on at some shows! But at the royals and specialties, I'm a bag of nerves. I know it's just another dog show, but still! How'd you go anyway Megz?

I do plan to have a litter from her towards the end of next year. We have the beagle national in August next year, so when ever her season falls after that, she'll be mated. I've heard good things about Nandoral with no adverse effects. I think I might just leave it and deal with what ever happens. If she comes into season when I'm meant to fly out for a show, then, I guess she stays home. I know I can still show her in season, but last time (her first season) she was so miserable and just didn't show at all. She's only had one season, so I don't know what her natural cycle is going to be. Her dam averages every 7 months and her litter sister has come in at 8 months after her first. My other two girls are desexed, so my bitch doesn't live with cycling bitches for that to come into effect. I'd hate to think giving her something to postpone a season ruins her fertility and ability to have a litter.

Hi All, I'm just wondering what options there are to postpone a bitches season and what the possible risks are of doing so. I've spoken to one vet who suggested superlorin, but I'm not interested in using that as I've seen first hand the effects it had on a dog. Not that every dog is the same, but I just don't want to go that way full stop. Another vet and breeder suggested Ovarid. Breeder said she has used it successfully and it postponed her bitches season for 3 months and she went on to have a normal season and whelp 10 pups. Vet said he wouldn't do it, the risks aren't worth the outcome. But only using it once, has low risks, but still risks with it causing pyometra and endometriosis in the bitch. Are there any other options? Have you used something successfully with no side effects on the bitch? Obviously I don't want to harm her and if bad experiences far out weigh the good.. I would never do it. My husband is dead against it. I'm just interested in others opinions and experiences if you have done this. Many thanks in advance.

My biggest piece of advice with what I've experienced with my girl was over training. I was going to show training every Thursday and she just got over it and wasn't interested in it anymore. This lead to pulling away when gaiting in the show ring and a general unhappy appearance, lacking in animation and spark. I wasn't going to training for her, I was going for me because I wanted to feel comfortable with what I was doing being a new handler and all. I feel I broke her by trying to make myself feel comfortable in the ring. I also believe the nerves I feel before going in also contributes to her appearance in the ring. I've worked very hard over the past few months to try and get her excited about showing again which has involved lots of treats and being told the basics from a friend.

Have you read the prefix application form? It states on the prefix application - The reverse side of the application states - I don't think there is a time frame you have to hold a prefix for before having a litter. You just need to make sure you have it before the bitch is mated as it can take 9 weeks to have the application approved. Even then if they throw out all your choices, it can take longer to re-submit more and go from there.

With regards to the dog numbers. I'm in the Brisbane City Council on a small suburban block and I have a breeders permit for up to 4 dogs. All they did was come out and check we had adequate fencing and that was it. I think they do a spot check every 12 months. It's $181 a year for the permit. Good luck with your move!
