  1. Winpara your fork pic's are great. Vicki you need to be banned, your too good and nope, no pooh on forks here. I had a go with the sun out and Im just not very good, I couldnt get inspired with a fork. Nikon D40x - 24-70 FL 50 - 3.5 Raw black & white So I moved to a subject that interested me more... Nikon D40x - 24-70 FL 70 - 3.2 Raw black & white Lighthouse - Antique effect
  2. I never let gross come between me and art, you should see all my paintings and sculptures I have done with Roc's pooh.... great texture for molding. .........no, that is what I call a accident when cleaning up pooh, I am not that creative. I am to busy watching for Ralphs small hidden ones and stand in a Roc deposit. I was pretty happy I realised before I went inside. I am all over this fork too....
  3. I wasn't going to think about this until the weekend. But due to this morning events I managed to get a shoe idea thanks to Roc. He is always willing to help any way he can. Champions of all champions he is. Camera: Nikon D40x Lens: 24-70 f/2.8 (only decent one I have) Shutter 1/50 Aperture: F3.5 No Flash as trying to practice in low light, cloudy. Photohop to resize. What is that. Looks suspicious. The culprit.
  4. Holy crap Vickie you are going to put us all to shame. That is excellent.
  5. I was just about to ask this, plus what is EXIF data? Were do I get that? (it is prob a stupid question).
  6. Is the 100 a film camera? The D3 would be awesome though. Thanks Kja. Do you mean a good lens with a good piece of glass? I have the Nikkor AF-S 24-70 f2.8 to start me off. I put all my money into that first instead of a body...... working backwards I know. The reason why I love my little D40x is because it is super small and light and it's been great to learn with. But once my lens is on even that gets heavy so I wouldn't want something were I needed a Inca trail porter to help me carry. I do like the D3 but way out of my price bracket as I want more good lenses first. I thought the D200 seemed like a good camera to start on being $$$$ cheaper then the new D300. But I might wait and look at the D90 for pure size and weight.
  7. Question. Is there a huge difference in the Nikon D300 - D200 - D80? I see f/stops and pixels. But if I am only wanting to potter around with photography would I (amateur) notice a difference in a D300 or D80? Plus would it be a stupid idea to buy a D200 (as I have seen some cheap ones due to last years model I guess)?
  8. I feel your pain with the kit you have. It's a great lens to start out and learn the DSLR. Would you be better off with a 70-200 lens (not sure what your budget is but it's a nice lens ). There is the AF-S 70-300 which I cant say I was impressed with, really slow to auto focus. Alot of great advice on here with people recommending the cheaper Sigma and Tamron lenses which are suppose to be good. Maybe look into them. I love my D40x and it's started me off well. Light-weight and a monkey can figure out how to use it, but I have decided to up-grade to the D300. The limitation in AFS lenses is a real nuisance. ;) I bought the 24-70 lens as I am more a portrait type of gal, and my subjects dont move fast, if at all really . But it really is a great all-round "practical" lens. I have managed to capture action shots and portraits with amazing detail. Some Ralph action. Portrait - shows the detail in the eyes, as you can see the yard and me taking the pic. Pretty cool.
  9. I finally decided on a lens. I went with the Nikkor 24-70. These are some shots I just took. I love the fact it can capture the reflection in their eyes. I will just have to save up for the 70-200 aswell.
  10. Thanks Dougie. Do you mean the Nikkor 18-200 f3.5? I cant find the Nikkor 28-200 unless it has gone out of production? I have frustration with low light situations hence why I wanted a f2.8. How do you find your lens in low light? Could I see some pictures taken on the 28-200 f3.5?
  11. We would be very interested to come along. I will keep an eye on this thread for further info.
  12. What did you end up with - new lens or new camera or neither? I'd mentioned the Sigma 150mm Macro. This is a kooka with this lens. Not 'enlarged' just the ends cropped off to square the shot. Just to show that Sigma lenses can be as sharp as, and manual focus with the D40 is not an issue. WOW!! That is absolutely amazing that picture. Really beautiful. I love those little guys too. I have had a few mix views on the Sigma. I need to go in and try one. I have decided on the Nikkor 24-70 f2.8. A friend bought the (Canon version) 70-200 2.8 and it was so huge and heavy. I just dont think something that big will suit me at this stage. Esp as I would have to move too far off my subject and I dont like being too far away from Roc off-lead. I miss out on the nice blur, but I just need something a tad more pratical as I go out by myself alot and a big lens, tripod and huge dog wont work. ;) Plus I want to use it indoors. I think I will look into the Sigma when I am ready to move on to the 70-200 as cheaper option to have both lenses now. Thanks.
  13. Thanks Luke W, I have seen some of your beautiful shots. I have a friend about to purchase the Canon 70-200 2.8, so will have a trial on hers. I am stuck between the 24-70 and 70-200 at this stage. Had play with the 24-70 and it was a nice lens.
  14. I tried the 70-300 in the weekend and wasn't sold on it, now confirmed it's a no go. Yes the D40 are a nuisance with the AF-s lenses. I think I have now narrowed it down to the two lenses. Thanks for the help PossumCorner.
  15. Thanks Belinda. Do you use the Sigmas yourself? I heard some bad things about the brand and to stick to Nikkor.
  16. I am looking at a new lens for my Nikon D40x. Could someone give me advice on the best lens for dog photography (as a hobby). I have narrowed it down to these and was wondering if anyone has these lenses to advise on the good and the bad you find with them with speed, light etc. Range from cheap to expensive, so if someone thinks realistically a cheaper lens can do the job then all the better. Even if someone could post pic's they have taken with any of the lenses in low light situations. AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IF-ED AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 AF-S VR Zoom Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 Thanks in advance, and I promise this isn't to torture you all even more with Roc'nRalph pictures.
  17. Oh, a christmas beetle, those horrible things that fly at you as you try to run away from them. Well since it wasn't a cockroach Snot is back at the top of my fav DOL list.
  18. Disorder, is that a cockroach Snot is flinging around on your couch? He is a real cutie even if he lacks hygiene.
  19. I am for this training tool. I have far more control over my boy now that I have discovered the pinch collar. Had a few issues with off lead and on-lead dogs trying to attack Roc and he is the sort of dog that will take on a challenge. I had been using a check chain and when we saw a dog I would stop him, hook the check up under his chin, hold a tight hold over him as we walked by, I knew all I was doing was sending all my nervous energy down the lead to him and over time I gave him more issues. We got introduced to the prong and our first walk I felt so much nervous tension leave me. Had far more control over Roc and it wasn't the control of me putting tension on his check, but a small correction with the pinch and he walks straight by other dogs, even the ones going nuts on their leads at him. He knows what is expected of him and it is far more comfy then a check choking him. I have to say I am disappointed I cannot use them at my obedience school. I do our obedience practice at home in it and he responds far better to a command then a treat. But a definite great tool.
  20. I so enjoy your movies. Big sook. They can be afraid of the most stupidest things cant they.
  21. I thought I would give a quick update. I finally got myself a prong collar, thanks to you Erny. I cannot believe the quick response I have achieved with my big guy already. I am very proud of my smart boy. He is responding to his prong really well, had a few dogs which we couldn't avoid (idiot owners with aggressive dogs on long leads). One small correction he was sweet, knew what was expected of him. I didn't even have to us a correction on the next walk, he responded to a command and this is only twice in his prong. I just LOVE this collar. But the biggest thing is finally having confidence in myself and enjoying walks more now. Only thing that is a shame is I am not allowed to use it at my Obedience Club, even though they speak highly of this tool. I think I could achieve more out of him in his prong, get him working better. Big thanks you to Rom with your help. You are a angel with my goof and 42 degree heat. Plus K9 Force for being so helpful. Awesome.
  22. I think secretly Roc wants to be left alone to play with his toy, but Ralph wants to be that toy. I am sure if it was possible, Ralph would be happy living inside Rocco's mouth, thinking he had bought himself a million dollar condo.
  23. I am so sorry for your loss, he was one stunning beautiful boy.
