  4. Oh I have so many to add...... here goes one COOL!!! Sent to me by a friend driving up in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney. The owner had no idea his dog looked so cool!!!
  5. I am so sorry to hear this... Rest in peace Gabrielle, you are now free of any more pain and suffering, but as Graysmum has said, you had a lot of people who showed you love on your last few days with people who really care. I briefly saw you on Monday at the vets, it was so hectic and so much going on at the clinic, I did not get a chance to speak to Nic or Graysmum... but I felt sick in the stomach when I saw the vet go in the consult room with the dreaded green syringe. I was hoping I was wrong and I saw the wrong thing but when I saw this thread, I knew. You had a lot of love around you and hope you are now resting in peace. Thanks Nic and Graysmum for being with Gabrielle and doing all of this for her. You guys are angels. I have not even met you but I am sitting here in tears.....
  6. He did not make it and passed away a few minutes ago. His temperature was so high and even after all the drugs the vet had given him to settle the siezures, he did not stop. I did not even get the chance to get to know this beautiful boy. What a tragic waste of life. I wonder if his previous owners knew he had this condition and left him at the pound to die.
  7. Just rang Anthony for an update..... it is not looking good. I can still hear him struggling in the background. Could not get too much more info as he was helping the vet, wrong time to ring. This is just awful Please, pray for this guy to pull through, I cannot stop crying
  8. I have just witnessed a very distressing thing this morning. I collected this boy from the pound yesterday and he just did not look right. We have kept him in isolation as we do with any incoming dogs unvaccinated, but his guy especially as he looked extremely depressed. He had been there 7 days and unclaimed. I asked the staff before taking him if he had been sick at all. They said he was fine. I say he would be approx 3 years old and in okay condition, not thin or mangey. This morning, I checked on him first thing, this was around 6am. He seemed a little better and sitting up and even came up to me a the gate. Whilst cleaning out the other kennels, I hear a banging, repetetive sound coming from his kennel and he was upside down and what appeared to be having a siezure. He was frothing at the mouth. It was absolutley awful to watch, not knowing what to do. I rang the vet (and woke him) and he asked for us to bring him in ASAP. He is there as I type this. My husband had to drive him as there is no way I could have driven safely as I am still shaking from waching him. Also I have all the kids still sleeping. Please can someone tell me that having siezure is not completley the end for him? We will do whatever it takes to help him. I am not normally on this section of the forum or have been on DOL much lately, but I felt I needed to get some help with some answers if not some emotional support. I already had someone want to adopt him but I told them I did not like the look of him, health wise and that he would need to stay here until we can observe him. He is such a beautiful boy and really hope that he pulls through. How long does a dog have to be having a siezure to cause some damage?
  9. We know of someone who is taking a Dog Massage course that is offering to massage our rescue dogs on a regular basis. They have been here once and all the dogs loved it. If you like next time they do come out here arrange to come out on the day and get your girl massaged too. Once I get more info on their availability and qualification details, I will be giving them a plug. If you are interested, please send me a PM
  10. I would love to borrow it too SAS, after Winterpaws of course. A friend has taped a few shows off Foxtel for us and I enjoyed watching them. Cheers

  12. This just does not seem right... My 8yo Staffy X Rotty boy has had reoccuring abcess like growth on the neck area of his face for the last 6 months (they have come up rock hard like the size of a tennis ball). Everytime this happens, we take him to the vets and he is put on a dose of antibiotics which brings the swelling down. Murphy acts the same, he eats okay and is not in any way acting ill except for this huge lump on his face. The other day whilst it was all swollen again, the skin under the lump 'burst' and there was blood dripping everywhere. Ofcourse he was rushed to the vet who then opened up the abcess and cut a huge piece of skin from his neck. He did not stitch it back but fille the whole which is approx 4cm round with gauze. I have been asked to remove the gauze after 24 hours but the hole is just so huge and horrible looking. The vet could not tell us what it was or what caused it. It looks absolutley horrible. I am taking him back to the vets tomorrow but for the moment, just wanted to ask if anyone knows if its okay to leave such a huge hole open.
  13. Will Royal Jelly work on dogs that have lost ALL fur due to mange? I have a boy that is getting over his condition but his fur is very slow in growing back?
  14. Wow, Ruby looks great, you have done well. What did you do exactly for her to make it grow back so quickly. We have had Bronson much longer than you have had Ruby in your care but its taking soooo much longer. I will give the Paw paw ointment a try, I do have a spare tub of it which I hardly use in the house
  15. We have a male Stafford who has been undergoing treatment for his mange. It seems to have cleared up except his fur is taking AGES to grow back. I am wondering if there is anything I could use to speed up his fur growth. Or would it not grow back due to the scar tissue? Bronson has now found a home (Well in 4 weeks time) and would really love for him to have his back with fur before his family take him on.... Any ideas or suggestion please? I am still bathing him with Pyohex 2x a week but we have stopped giving him his Ivemectin. This is what he has like when we took him on and one of what he looks like now.
  16. Hey Roo, please feel free to give us a call if you are interested, or send us a PM. The male puppy (he has been called 'little man) is the brindle and white one pictured with a little boy (my son). Little man is almost taken by one of our volunteers who has totally fallen in love with him. Although she will not get in the way of a great home for him if one comes up, she will have to give the okay though as to whether he leaves or not. Some more You tube videos
  17. Hi Roo 1/ not too sure with this question, anyone care to answer this? She is still feeding the pups, but just. Will keep them seperate from tomorrow night, as she does keep running away from them when they try and feed. The pups are fully self suffient now anyway. 2/ We thought she did tonight, but they chose another boy... so YES, she is still looking for a home. 3/ She has a great temperament, neer has she growled at anyone for coming near her pups, she is only a pup herself, 2yo. She has a great appetite and has put on a lot of weight and condition since coming to us which is great. She had a bit of a flea allergy but we have been bathing her almost every 2nd day and she is great in the bath too. 4/ her name is Soxy, (I dont particularly like it) so have been thinking of changing it soon. Forgot to say, she has gone walking with other dogs and has been totally fine as well as never shown any aggression towards any dogs that come near her or her pups through the fence.
  18. I hardly think so, we are really not set up for puppies and the older dogs need us more. Of course in saying this, when and if they need us, we will surely not be able to decline. Taking these pups on have mad me more appreciative of the other rescue groups that take on mums and pups. They are a lot of work which take up a lot of time which we are short of already.
  19. Thanks Kendall, I was going to post about the age they would be now, considering when the post was started. We were not sure of their age was when they first came to us as they were surrendered to the pound and this is only what we could go with, although I felt they were older. We had them vaccinated and the vet seemed to think they are about 6 to 7 weeks based on their teeth. No homes yet, but they are getting lots of attention from our volunteers. I am sure that once we put them on our website they will get a lot of interest. They do seem very healthy and we are very glad they all survived till now considering where they came from.
  20. Some close up photos, random shots
  21. Here is a Youtube video of the pups in action... busy little beavers they are. Excuse the background noise, the squeaky toy was setting off all the other dogs in the kennels. Enjoy.... these little guys will be looking for a new home soon. I will post photos of these guys in the rescue section too.
  22. Thanks for the suggestions... the fleas seem to be slowly going. I have had to bath them almost every second day as they are full of sh%$t. They appear to be pretty healthy (Thank God) and mum is very placid and calm. I am feeding them mince with kibble (soaked with water first)3 x a day and they are loving it. I think they may be older than we first thought. Will get the vet to give us an estimate. I will get photos on here when I get the chance. Your not wrong about taking on a massive job..... they may be cute, but they do require a lot of work. As they had come from Blacktown Pound we are being extra cautious with Quarantine and they pups have not left their kennel except for bath time. We should get them vaccinated soon.
  23. We rescued a 2yo mum with 7 of her puppies today as they had no hope surviving at the pound. I would like some advise on a few things. We are not that experienced with puppies and would like to make sure we do the right thing by them. Have done a search on google but all the information given is for puppies 8 weeks up. Anyone know of a good puppy site for info regarding puppies this young? Mum appears to be a good mum and allows us to come near the pups but I feel she is getting a bit tired of them suckling from her. We gave them a bit of puppy kibble and some mince and they were ravenous. How early do they go on solids? What is the best thing to give them? They are covered in fleas (as is mum) How early can they be bathed? What is the safest thing to bath them with? They appear to be healthy but with very wormy bellies. Appreciate any help..... Oh there are 6 girls and 1 boy.
  24. Hi Petal79, I must say I a little suprised with Ned's behaviour. He was with us for 3 months, and although we had not had him one on one with another dog while with us he hardly ever showed aggression to other dogs. He did go for walks on a lead with another dog on a few occasions and he was fine. I took him myself, so I know he is not interested in fighting with other dogs. In saying this though, he appeared to be disinterested in other dogs and was just happy to be with his human. A lot of good advise has been mentioned already, especially the one about the tension on the lead that he may sense when you walk him. Please keep us posted on his training.. never too late to teach an old dog new tricks, I say. Give Ned a bid cuddle from us and if you need to contact us for anything, please call us so we could discuss it in more detail.
  25. and with Murphy... who a lot of people are actually scared of.... Jackson respected that Murphy was on the couch first so instead of pushing him away..... he decided to let him sleep and just slide in on the couch to share it with him. From day one, we have had dogs in the house - but we introduced our son to the dogs very slowly and as a few people already suggested... letting them smell something of the baby would be good (thats when she gets here of course) and hearing her/him. Anyway, the offer of using Jackson as a baby/dog trainer... is always open.
