  1. I can't bring myself to cull, good thing too as after my pup passed away at 7 months I have thousands of photos to remember him by - even if they aren't all crash hot Though I did bite the bullet last week and bought a 750GB external hard drive and case for $180 including postage
  2. Too funny My 7yo loves to do the same thing, but with big black plastic flower pots. The neighbours find it very entertaining watching her scoot up and down the driveway with her head and front feet in it. However she also finds this game amusing at 1am, and i'm sure you know the racket it makes on concrete This thread is great! I was starting to run out of ideas for cheap toys for my new pup, keep em coming!
  3. Name: Bohden - means gift from God Sex: Male Date of Birth: 22nd of March 2008 Age: 8 weeks Colour: Wolf Grey Breed: Alaskan Malamute Hobbies: Chewing on everything and anything. Showdog Superstar (one day we hope lol!) Loves: As above Hates: Being left alone
  4. We will be at the June 1st one. We will be competing in the Speciality Show on the day and might have a go at weight pulling in the afternoon
  5. Mine walk one on each side, but when needed I will switch them both to the one side or have my old girl out in front.
  6. Has anyone used the Kelco brand concentrated shampoo? What do you think about it? I can get it for $9.99 (345ml) which makes up 10L and have seen it for sale at dog shows for around $27.
  7. I have Malamutes and they are ALWAYS voicing their opinions My pup is also 13 weeks old and there is rarely a quiet time in the house, puppy sleep time is bliss! He doesn't bark but woo woos at everyone and everything, feed time especially gets the biggest response from him
  8. I taught my girl to bow using treats (not via clicker training) this is how I did it. 1) Have your dog in a stand position 2) Kneeling on the dogs right hand side, slide your left arm under the dogs belly right at the dogs stifle and support the dog with your arm 3) With treat in your right hand entice the dog down and forward along the ground 4) The dog should slide down onto its elbows, feet in front and rear end being supported by your left arm 5) The instant the elbows hit the ground reward and give the command "Bow" Gradually you should be able to get the dog to bow with less and less rear support from you. I was able to graduate to hand signals, my signal for bow is point at the dog arm outstreached and sweep the hand toward my feet (standing in front of her) and say bow. Not sure how you would teach the dog to bow by bending the knees, but I presume the dog supporting most of it's bodyweight on the knees would be detrimental to its joints. HTH :p
  9. That's ok, I too am very interested in learning to groom and have considerd the Grooming School, but like you the price has been a big factor in why I haven't done it yet. I'm going to America in September and hope to check out a few of the salons over there and get some insight of the way it's run over there, should be interesting I agree, it's really is nice to see locals around here - especially ones with northern breeds Hope to see you around the rings as well!
  10. I also use it every day, on both the horses and dogs and they both love it. I have found the best results on my horse who suffers from Queensland Itch, after years of expensive creams and sprays I decided to try apple cider vinegar, viola, no itch last summer! I also second the Kelp in both the horses and dogs diet :p EFS
  11. There is a grooming school holding classes at Cooranbong if you are interested? Their website is The Grooming School
  12. I feed my Malamute pup Eukanuba with natural yoghurt, vitamin C tablets and Omega 3 capsules. For lunch he gets either fish, lamb off cuts or turkey necks. My adult girl is on a raw diet that is made up myself - she gets a 400g chicken mince/minerals/vegie mix with apple cider vinegar, olive oil and yoghurt with either fish, chicken frames, turkey necks and offal meats. They also get a 2 foot long marrow bone each which lasts a week.
  13. I will probably be a future DSW With my new pup I plan to get titles in Backpacking, Weightpull, Sledding, Endurance, Conformation showing and would love to dabble in Agility... but alas having a strong willed malamute I doubt I will get far in Agility :p I will have to travel over 12hrs to get to weightpull and backpacking competitions. Vic and Qld are the closest states that competitions are held and I plan to attend at least one a month of each during the colder seasons. We have our first show on the 29th and thus the addictions begins!
  14. Jennifer, I have posted links to three places in Australia that sell harnesses on the first page I have windchill dog gear and highly reccommend them
  15. You can't use X back race harnesses for weightpulling 1) it's against regualtions and 2) they aren't designed for heavy pulling Proper weight pulling harnesses have a spreader bar at the rear and are designed to make the pull easier and more comefortable for the dog (keep in mind some dogs can pull up to 1 tonne!!) To the people interested in forming a club, do you want to form your own weightpull club, with own rules, insurance, equipment and venue with the ability to earn titles for your dogs? or to join a club which offers most of these services, all you need to do is show up with your dog? I'm sure we could get something going with the malamute club of NSW, they have members with a venue and all the equipment we need, but I presume due to lack of turnouts they have ceased the competitions?
  16. What state are you located in? Unfortunately there are NO weightpull comps in NSW so I will be travelling to compete in either QLD Mal and husky social club of QLD or Victoria Alaskan malamute club of Victoria SA also weightpull and thier link is Mal and husky club of SA If you do not own a mal or husky I'm sure they will let you join as long as your dog is well behaved :p I'm not sure on where to buy the carts (I will have mine custom made) but harnesses and ganglines can be bought from Express Outfitters , Polapaws and I bought mine from Windchill Dog Gear and can't reccomend them highly enough! Hope this helps! ETA: Forgot to say that any dog with the desire to pull is welcome to compete! Berners, Pitts, Northern breeds even Saint Bernards are great at weight pullers! My sister is looking to get a Samoyed and will be wanting to compete as well! If anyone wants to start something up here in NSW i'd love to hear from you! The Malamute club of NSW apparently hold comps but I havn't heard anything on that front for quite awhile! Their site is NSW Mal Weight Pull
