  1. Wow that newslink. I just wonder why she kept this dog. It seemed to be very dangerous. Bizarre
  2. I have 2 dogs, and I love them dearly but if they are capable of this type of aggression, I am sorry, its just not safe Regardless, if I have them locked up or whatever. I do not want to be responsible for the severe injury to a child like this. sometimes, things happen, a child may not make the best judgement, but your dog should not react in that way. If it does, it should not be in suburbia.
  3. I actually think some of you are being quite mean to Matthew B. he is only saying, what most of the general public are saying, after the death of a child ... Instead of mocking him, or even when some of you aren't mocking him, you call his argments stupid, and say, "what don't you get... " quite aggressive... You won't win your points this way ..
  4. Yep, I got bitten when I was 14 (I am now 47), but there was no warning at all I was and remain a dog lover, and this dog, was well known to me, I have no idea what set it off, I was patting him, down at his level, and all of sudden bam, just latched on my face still have scars now, faded ... so,yes, some dogs do give warnings, but not all, and some just do snap who knows why
  5. well they haven't called it a purebred Pitbull, they have called it a Pitbull mastiff ... that indicates cross doesn't it
  6. Well I have to say, if my child was killed in this way I would want some consequences and change to happen
  7. I actually find this list interesting ... the list posted earlier from the paper, was the last 5 years, so picks up from where this list leaves off and it is showing more pitbull crosses involved in attacks in the last 5, then showing in your list. Why?? is it because they are more widely owned... what do you think the reasons are
  8. It is about being factual. If it was a cross breed then it was not an APBT. Simple. So now to eradicate cross breeds? Isn't it factual though that a lot of these attacks, have Pitbull in the breed .... the dog was identified as Rotweiller in one, if it was a labrador cross that would be factual ... it is a Pitbull cross, its factual just because its not a purebred pitbull ... doesn't mean, you can argue, it wasn't a pitbull
  9. By licensing owners, by enforcing EXISTING registration and desexing laws and by educating people about how to buy and raise dogs. And by tossing the book hard at the head of anyone who fails to act responsibly as a dog owner. Starting now. The "wrong" sort of owners can study up and pass a test I agree with the enforcing EXISTING registration and desexing laws
  10. We can also make a step to stop the wrong kind of people having any dog. Frankly I think that would be far more effective, don't you? How do you do that? yes, clearly it would more effective, but who makes that call on the wrong or right person to own a dog ?
  11. Sorry, I just don't think the argument of its not a purebred Pit bull is helping your cause they are being identified as pitbull crosses, to the general public they look like pitbulls, they seem to have pitbull in them... yes, it is a mongrel, but that is not what the general public are hearing or seeing they are not seeing a labrador cross killing a child, they are seeing a pitbull cross doing that,
  12. But they are putting these attacks up, which are pretty serious and that is not helping 17 August 2011 A pit bull cross mauled a four-year-old girl to death and savaged attacked two of her relatives after it wandered into the youngster's family home in St Albans. 19 Feb 2011 A pit bull terrier was destroyed after biting a police officer's face on the New South Wales south coast town of Bomaderry. 13 Feb 2011 A young family was attacked by an American pit bull and an American Staffordshire Terrier in Hoppers Crossing, before a 23-year-old man was attacked by the same pair just a few doors down. 19 April 2010 A three-year-old girl was taken to hospital with serious injuries to her hip, abdomen and leg after being attacked playing in a neighbour's backyard in Taree, NSW. 23 March 2010 A 67-year-old grandmother had her arm savaged by her pit bull cross so badly it needed to be amputated. 23 Dec 2009 A 61-year-old man was attacked by two pit bulls in Albanvale, leading to six pit bull terriers being seized in Melbourne's west. 22 Oct 2009 A Torquay teenager was cut and bruised defending her Maltese Terrier from a pit bull-mastiff that set upon them on the beach. 18 Oct 2009 An American pit bull attacked a Reservoir man and the two dogs he was walking, savaging his hand, killing one dog and injuring the other. The pit bull was put down at the scene. 28 Dec 2007 A nine-week-old girl was dragged from her cot and mauled to death by a rottweiler in Pakenham. 13. People do grasp it PF but they are seeing statistics, and there has been incidents in Australia in the last couple of years, where these powerful sort of dogs, have severely injured and now killed someone that is what they are grasping yes, there can be all sorts of reasons for why they are doing it, but the simple fact is, these dogs, in the wrong hands, can cause far more damage then other breeds
  14. I do see the other side of the coin and thank you Bulldogforeva for your response, because it was balanced ... and I realise that stats in the US, don't equate to here but the news was showing terrible attacks from Australia in the last couple of years, and they are hard to defend. I don't really know much about pit bulls, as in, not having come in contact with a lot, all I really know them is from Dog Whisperer, and I love them I also do not want to see entire breed of any dogs banned, but I am just saying, people can't just discount the statistics... anyhow, I don't know the answer, I guess it all comes to education, and strong ownership ... but I don't see that happening for a long time
  15. I am going to put my head on the chopping block but I don't think, the blatant, defense of pitbulls, helps at all... or saying, all dogs can bite, etc, etc. why don't they put a fluffy dog up, blah, blah, blah... because even if a crazy maltese terrier got loose, and ran into my house, it is not going to kill me, or sever an arm... how do you counter these... I am just trying to play devils advocate. A lot have discounted statistics, but clearly, there is something in those ... even even if they are only half true. just seems people here, jump automatically to the dogs and the breeds defense, without acknowledging, their may be a problem I don't think that helps you shout down people who put statistics up, but then pull out the statistics that support your claim I don't know what the answer, but sheer bloody mindness on either side of the argment is going to help
  16. Simple. Round up anything with a big head, smooth coat and weighing over 18kg that isn't ANKC registered and kill the lot. Anything red or brindle will be first in line. And don't think it can't happen. Exactly! does no one remember what happened in QLD?? Thousands of innocent dogs killed, because of the way someone thought they looked, THOUSANDS! really, 1000's
  17. So you susggest we just ignore the high amount in the statistics??? just asking ... can people really say, they are not more prone to attacking
  18. Look, I think the pitbull is a beautiful dog, with the right owner, but can we really ignore, statistics totally like that ..... even the review of deaths in the SMH article, showing the amount of people involved in attacks in Australia in the last couple of years is disturbing.. Recent attacks by Pitbulls MAY 2011 Darwin Accounting manager Peter Chilman, 53, had his left thigh savaged when a pitbull attacked him. The father-of-two was protecting his silky terrier and two school girls at a bus stop. MARCH 2010 A 67-year-old woman had her arm nearly torn off by a pitbull cross she was looking after for her family in Victoria's far southwest. The woman suffered severe injuries to both arms, the right was almost severed, and needed surgery. The Staffordshire pitbull cross was put down by police. MARCH 2010 Kathy Bonic's arm was nearly severed after she was attacked by a pit bull-staffordshire cross in her regional Victorian flat. FEBRUARY 2010 Sunshine Coast woman Maud Isaak, 84, was still recovering from her injuries almost a month after a terrifying mauling by two illegal pitbull dogs. One dog was shot by police at the scene, the second was put down after its owner signed it over to the local council. Ms Isaak had her leg partly chewed off and damage caused to one of her eyes. OCTOBER 2009 Pitbull attack leaves a man in hospital and two dogs dead. In an unprovoked attack the animal killed one of the small dogs before setting on the other. When the owner attempted to his help his pets, the pitbull bit and latched on to his arm. Police and ambulance officers were unable to release the man from the dog's grasp for at least 20 minutes. The man suffered serious injuries to his hand and arm. APRIL 2008 A seven-year-old Sydney girl was left in a serious but stable condition in hospital after being mauled by a pitbull cross-breed in her Blacktown backyard Read more: http://www.news.com.au/national/child-killed-in-dog-attack-at-st-albans/story-e6frfkvr-1226117002241#ixzz1VLD2qZJE
  19. That was very interesting ....
  20. Yes, seemed quite factual to me, no sensationalism in that story
  21. That is exactly right Anne... I have been a dog owner for 15 years... My old dog was a renowned escape artist ... we would think we had escaped proofed the house and yeard, and he would find another way out .... he was so sneaky hahahaha So it does happen .... might have been the first time, the dogs escaped.
  22. Look I understand that some of you have seen issues with RSPCA that has left you cyncial, unhappy. And, I do not take that away and actually keep that in mind when I see things about RSPCA. However, a lot of you, as soon RSPCA appears in an article, you don't look for any merit at all... it is straight away RSPCA bashing...
