I remember your last post. Good idea to get a second opinion just incase.

There are a few Maremmas too.

Try trialling your dog when there's duck poo in the ring. That doesn't get any better with age.

I am not showing as yet, but when I get my in the second half of the year, I will be then. I am 5"9 and a size 8 but have no idea what colour. I will be showing a Red merle Aussie Shepherd. Please let me know if anyone comes accross anything or can tell me where to get any suits from. Also, what colours I should be looking for, Thanks

Two questions, how dare you I think it is just puppy exploring different things out on his walks. What tastes good, what doesn't, thats a good smell over there, wonder if I can chew on that etc. Just continue to keep an eye on what he is actually putting in his mouth  Dont want a trip to the vets. It is something they grow out of. Also, for Ridgebacks, I would go for a zoom groom. This has rubber stems (if thats the word) that remove the dead hair, while stimulating the skin and I know my cats and staffy x think it feels pretty good. There is also a Furminator that some other may suggest, but personally I think a Ridgebacks hair is too short for this to be really effective.

I dont think she is as regular with the toilet breaks as she says. (After all, when I went into her house to get Coco, she was asleep on her bed with the TV on. No wonder the puppy wees on the bed) Her other dog I groom is an older outside dog, who I have now talked her into having inside of a night as he is older and has a very fine coat. As far as I know she has not had experience with toilet training a dog, so I think I'll have a really good chat to her about it in the next week when I see her again. Thanks, I thought it was the obvious but just wanted to make sure as I've never had this problem.

I had a regular client tonight who has just bought a new puppy. She asked me to give her some advise as her puppy keeps weeing on her bed and pooing under the bed. I did not know what to suggest apart from the obvious, dont let puppy on the bed and make sure you take out for regular toilet breaks. She wants the puppy on her bed and takes her out to the toilet frequently so I did not know what else to tell her. Just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions I might be able to give to her as she is sick of washing the doona every couple of days

I do as bertie does. As soon as mine go to jump, I turn my back on them and walk away. When I get home I completely ignore them for a few minutes until they have settled and stop being silly, then they get a pat and spoken to when they are calm.

I hide on my dogs and they have to come and find me. I have to think of more hidy spots though as they know behind the doors and behind the curtains. When they find me we have a big wrestle and they dart off down the hall way in excitement. Thats when I go and hide again, and so on and so on, until I am going to collapse It's fun, I like it when they're so close to you and they know you are there, but just cant find you. Hiding in the shower is a good one for this.

Trying To Urinate Often With Only A Few Drops
BC replied to benny123's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My mums cat used to get this. It definately sounds like urinary tract, but going to the vets tomorrow morning is fine. No need to panic. It can be quite common in cats especially, but with the right diet can be controlled. -
My staffy x does this occasionally, and as Roxiekda said, I block his nose and force him to breathe through his mouth and then it goes away. He goes through stages, sometimes he will do it for a couple of days, but then he wont for 6 months.

OMG shmoo, I thought it was just me. I have burnt myself on these too. Ouch !!!!

If it is for full grooming I like Wahl KM2 the best. They can be expensive though. I also use Oster which are OK, but I do prefer Wahl. If it is just for tidying etc, some other DOLers would have some more suggestions for you. I have only ever used the 2 brands I have mentioned.

You're lucky I'm busy that day, 02 June, LP or myself and Lyn would be cheering for you from the side

You may want to test one out on a Wolfy prior to paying so much money for one. I use one and they are great, but I think they work best on labs, kelpies etc that are the longer hair length of the short hair breeds if that makes sense. They also work well on Malamutes and Huskies. I have no idea how it would go on a Wolfhound, but I would definately quickly try one first. See if a nice groomer would let you have a go.

I would steer clear of any grooming courses by correspondence. The reason being dog grooming is more about dog handling skills etc. Anyone can clip hair off a dog, but learning how to handle the dogs, the scissoring skills, the correct shapes, the areas of the dog that can be cut easily, all needs to be hands on. It looks easy watching, and listening to what people say, but when it comes down to actually doing it, it can be hard yakka. Some dogs are aggressive, some wiggle all the time, some are scared, such as puppies for the first time, some always try to lie down. If every dog would stand up, nice and still and let you clip their legs, feet and face without moving, it would be easy peasy, but this is not ususally the case. (mind you, some dogs are brilliant and do just stand there) Cheers

:D I'm sorry Tilly. You still have him for the moment so just enjoy each others company and give many hugs and kisses. You will know when it is time

Have been through this with mum and dads dog. Poor little Sandy just lied in her bed all day and didn't really move much except when she was thirsty, and she started vomitting, so straight to the vet and on a drip. She was there for 3 days but did not come good. If you suspect something I would get it checked sooner rather than later.

Mine are fed twice a day. They are on BARF so they pretty much have to. A bone in the morning and their small meal later in the day. Prior to BARF they were fed once a day and that was fine, however they are not deep chested breeds.

I know, it all gets a bit too much sometimes ;) Just try the different suggestions and see what works for you. Every dog is different, cheers and good luck :D

Maybe she wont settle in the crate if you are using it for time outs. I would try another spot for time outs as you are wanting her to associate the crate with something good (eg, giving her treats and wanting her to go to bed etc) but I am assuming you use time outs if she is being too silly or naughty ?? This is IMO but she may settle in the crate either way.

I always use baby wipes now and always did when I worked in a grooming salon. But this is a personal choice and some people choose not too so completely up to you. Cheers

I just had 1 dog castrated today, but he does not lick or chew so no collar for him. One of my other dogs needed it and after 1 day he thought it was the best being able to headbutt the other dogs. I think it made him feel like the boss as they all stayed well away from him He also thought that having spare food stuck to the end of it was pretty cool too (until I cleaned it at the end of the day). He could just have a munch when he felt like it

IMO if you cant play nicely you dont play at all. I used time out and yes they do squeal, but I ignored it and they were let out after a few minutes. Sometimes they went straight back in as when I let them out I was "attacked " again. Persistance is also the key. Dont give up if something does not work straight away. Your puppy is still learning.
