Male or female ? A male would need great aim to get it in the litter tray but I suppose you could train a female. I've never tried it and never heard of it being done but I'm sure someone will be able to help.
-
I do both, private and group. If I just wanted to train my dog to be well behaved I would just stay with group classes, as you can get everything you need from there, but when it comes to trialling, private lessons are needed. You need someone to tell you exactly what you are doing wrong on a one on one level, and how to improve on things. Its hard to get any of this in a class situation as you have many people with only 1 hour to get through them all. I still got to group classes though for a bit of socialisation and fun.

Yep, good on you s~m~s, join the club. I'm still reminded of it every week Vinnie has weed on me too. When we first bought Cooper home as a pup, he was standing in between my legs, and Vinnie lifted his leg and weed on me. Oh well, at least all of the other dogs know that I'm taken I just think of myself as an extra special mum.

Oh love My dog weed on me at training 2 weeks ago. Right up my leg :D What the ? I am assuming it was cos the female dalmation he was next to weed, and kicked it on him, so he just lifted his leg and it happened to get me, all over my boot and jeans. Nice !! Not to mention I have been the laughing stock for the last 2 weeks ! Desexing helped my x boy within 2 weeks, but I know it can take some dogs longer. I dont envy you

Hmmm. Some words that come to mind are: Mystar Myamigo ( My Amigo) Comrade Mainman Sidekick It's hard. I took ages to decide what I wanted. My dad suggested Coopers Brewery, but I didn't think that was really appropriate :D
-
Yep, you can have 2 words but I cant remember how many letter. My dogs name is Cooper, but registered as Sparkling Cooper. Many people will use their surname, but I wanted something a little different. I know Cosmolo's dog is registered as "cosmopolitan", so it is up to you. You will need to come up with a couple of names though just incase the one you want is taken. eg. Zesty Zach, Zach Attack :D Also, do this asap as the VCA are taking about 5 weeks to get the registrations done, and you obviously need this prior to entering.

Is anyone going to the VIC state trial on the Sunday ?? It is mine and Coopers first time, entered in the big CCD and I'm really scared

Does anyone know who runs show training on the Western side of Melbourne ?
-
Mine will go out every morning for their wee, and then chomp on some grass before they come back in. As far as I know it is good for them and helps with digestion ?? Thats what I heard, but I think they both just like it cos they do it every morning

I dont have a set temperature I like to use. Warmer on cold days, and only slightly warm on hot days. I set mine to the highest temperature (40 degrees) but thats only so it warms up quicker. First job of the day I know it takes me about 7 minutes to heat up to a warm temperature, and the jobs for the rest of the day about 3 minutes. If I reduce the setting it takes much longer, and I dont have time to wait all day for water to heat, so full blast for me. I would probably go for mid 20's ??? but not 100% sure as I just go by the feeling. Sorry not that much help I know.

Yep, whatever my dog will work for, no matter how messy or how much chopping  Mine loses interest in any premade treats very very quickly. I use hot dogs, roast chicken, steak, chicken loaf etc. He did however, quite like some I got as a sample one day. I cant remember the name, but they came in a purple packet and had to be kept in the fridge if anyone knows. These were squishy and could be chopped in half. I will try and find the name and let you know.

Name: Tenille Age (optional): 25 Location: Melbourne Rescue Group: RR Inc (Rigbys Rescue) Time in Rescue: 6 months Who can vouch for: RR Inc Preferred Breed: Any Experience (if any): Obedience Instructor and Dog Groomer RR Inc always comes to your house for a meeting to explain fostering and general info, yard/house check, and to complete paper work and sign contracts, and then calls you when there is a suitable foster. Microchip - yes Vaccination - yes Desexing - yes Heartworm test - yes worming - yes flea treatment - yes vet work if required - yes basic training/teach manners - yes, and a bit of work at the local dog obedience club house train dogs - house training is worked on from day 1, but if not completely house trained when adopted, new owners are made aware, and that they will need to continue working on this Dogs inside the home or outside - inside mainly Are you prepared to give extra care for a submissive nervous - absolutely. A nervous dog would not be best suited to my place but if needed, extra measures would be taken. I have not fostered a dog for a couple of months due to one of my dogs having surgery, and my other dog taking up a lot of my time at the moment, but will definately get back into when things settle down and this place becomes suitable for a foster again.

When introducing dogs, I take them onto neutral territory, on lead, let them sniff etc, and when they seem fine with each other, take them into the yard/house ?? and let them off. With pups you could probably do this in your yard or house with no problems. They should be fine Yes, the 11month old will be stronger, so just monitor their playing etc, the other one will soon catch up and hold it's own

One club I am a member of told a guy he had to muzzel his dog as he took a chunk out of the instructors pants and left a puncture mark in his leg. At the other club there is 1 dog that wears a muzzel, and she definately needs to, but there are also space jackets (give me space please) that the dogs with issues wear, so people know to keep their distance cos they could be frightened or aggressive etc. I would think the club would allow a muzzel if necessary for safety reasons. Just cos your dog does not like other females, does not mean you should be stopped from training her. If I saw a dog with a muzzel I just would not stand as close, but I would not be put off by it.

Yep, as sas said, just saying you're boss and I love you Some say it is submissive, I dont think I would call it submissive behaviour, but it's a sign that you're boss.

Territorial/predatory Behaviour Towards New Kitten
BC replied to koolietas's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Good old working dogs When I bought home my cats after already having my BC, (he had never seen cats) I put the cats in the spare room, with fly screen up so they could all see and smell each other but not get to each other. I did this for a few days and when they did not react to each other, I let the cats out. It took a while with the BC as he is a working dog and feels it is his duty to herd the cats, but they all get along great now. He still herds them, but will leave them when I call him off, and the cats are so used to it now they just ignore him. He will head but them and and occasionally mouth them (which is not on, he gets in trouble for that) when they're not moving, but they all get along fine now. Koolie is a working dog and you will not stop some behaviour as he is bread to work, but you will learn to manage it. You do need to have good control over your dog though so if not trained, I would suggest get some obedience training asap. -
When my BC was younger, he used to just pick at his food instead of eat it all, and also if there was something better to do, he did not go near his food. I put it down to him not being that hungry. I reduced his meals, and now only feed him once a day, and he eats the entire meal regardless of what is going on. All dogs should be nice and lean, and if the vet has said he is a good weight I would go with that. Just reduce meal sizes and feed once a day and see if it is all eaten. If he is eating it all you can then increase it a little bit eat day and see what size meal is satisfying him. If you do this and he still wont eat much, then there could be some problem and I would get a second opinion if you are not happy with what your original vet has advised.

Pet stores and grooming salons stock dog cologne. You should also be able to pick some up online.

On the subject of supermarket foods, what does anyone think of Purina One ? This is sold in 7kg bags from the supermarket for about $30.00 which I think is a similar price to the "better" dry foods that are sold in a 20kg bag for example. This would then be $90 approx for 20kg of Purina One if comapring to the other prices. Is it any good though ?

My border always licks and chews between his pads. I could not and cannot see anything, but after a vet visit there is a fungal infection that itches him, and of course, licking it makes it worse as it keeps it damp. I need to wash his feet in Malaseb every day for a week and it goes away, but it does come back so I just need to keep washing his feet. It will never go away completely, I just have to manage it. From what you're saying I think that this is the case. Vet visit will confirm and you can manage it from there.

How Do You Bath Your Large Dog?
BC replied to Poodle wrangler's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Whoo, stung alright. $60.00 is what I charge for everything plus a full clip. But others are getting more than a fair deal. For yours ReXy I would've charged around $35.00 for a wash, blow dry, ears cleaned and plucked if needed, nails trimmed and a tidy around face, bum and belly etc. For a standard poodle, depending on the length of the hair it would be from $40.00 to $50.00 for everything but a clip. Hope this gives you an idea
