  1. I'm not a landscape photographer by any stretch of the imagination so here is my poxy attempt at something atop of Mt Wellington in Hobart. (23rd January)
  2. I've been slack. I am yet to download photos for the last couple of days (I've been in Tassie). I am so impressed with the quality of work from EVERYONE. I hope you have all enjoyed the challenge as much as I have. I know I have enjoyed seeing everyone's results. The list for the February treasure hunt is nearly finished. I'm just about at 20 items/ideas/themes. Just need a couple more. If anyone has an idea, please feel free to PM me.
  3. I also wonder how many unreported attacks there were because the breeds involved weren't 'scary' enough to bother with.
  4. Some roosters can cause a huge amount of damage when they attack. They dig their spurs in and rip. Very nasty stuff and not something to laugh at (no matter how funny it sounds). This is why cock fighting exists and why it is so cruel.
  5. Thank you. Yes, they are all for hairdressing. In 1990 he moved from a very large salon to the little one he is in today. He ended up having to dump a huge amount of his trophies as he had nowhere to store them and he couldn't fit them in the new salon. He's a very talented man.
  6. A shade darker than my natural colour with blonde foils... you can't see the gray anymore.
  7. Today's subject is my dad. I knew I was seeing my dad today and was trying to think how I would photograph him. Then it occurred to me to photograph him the way I have seen him since I was a little girl and will always see him for the rest of time. These were quite hard to shoot. I was fighting the hard salon lighting and I also had to think about angles and reflections as I was shooting through the salon mirror and didn't want the camera to be reflected in the image. I lined the camera up so I was looking down the lens barrell through the reflection, then I tilted toward my dad ever so slightly, half pressed the shutter button to focus then took the shot. I only took 5 photos and got two that I was happy with (seen here in their cropped and uncropped versions). Then I also took a photo of my dad in front of his trophy cabinet. Those are only a small fraction of the trophies he was won over his lifetime. He will be retiring to Greece in a year or two. I think he looks pretty good for a workaholic approaching his 69th birthday. Anyway, this is my little autobiographical series titled, "Me and My Dad the Hairdresser"
  8. We have our work on the walls... but only in the areas clients have access to. Otherwise, the other walls are bare. Pretty slack for a photographer.
  9. Some great photos everyone! PPS I am loving your horse shots. Very nice. I have to add photos for Friday and Saturday, I didn't get a chance to shoot Sunday or Monday. I'm heading out today with my camera so will be back in the challenge as of today. I really need to keep up. A few people have been asking about the challenge continuing into February however most of the reason that it's a 'january challenge' is that many people have holidays throughout the month and have more time than they usually do to take the photos. I'm going to start another thread with a poll for a couple of shooting ideas for February. Please head down there, answer the poll and add ideas of your own to the list.
  10. canvas prints... www.allyharrison.com.au archival quality, great colour, competitive prices.
  11. I don't know how much if this info you need so I will put all of it. click on the photo you want at flickr above the photo will be a button that says, "show all sizes" (or something like that) - click on that. When in there, you have a choice of the size of image you want, make your choice and click on it. Under the image will be two lines of code. Copy the 'http:// ' code. Come back to DOL, make your post, click the little photo icon above the posting box (icon next to smiley face), paste the code in the box, hit 'okay'. done.
  12. and the fishing... I haven't downloaded for the 16th or 17th yet.
  13. Thursday 15th A few for this day... it's a bit of a story. This is the rail bridge in Sigatoka town. Trains no longer use the bridge, instead the locals use it as a footbridge. The 'crime scene tape' did little to stop people from walking out to look at the destruction. There are still huge amounts of debris building up behind the bridge. then this sunset back at Bedarra Beach... then...
  14. Okay... will try and catch up as best I can. Sunday 11th Sunset from the plane as we leave Brisbane Monday 12th Field in Nadi. It was underwater just a few hours earlier and flooded again three days later. A break in the rain gave us this amazing sunset Tuesday 13th This is Benny the Crab hunting dog. She is part Doberman, part Fijian mutt and amazing to watch. I have a video of her that I need to load to youtube. Fijian floor show at The Outrigger Resort Wednesday 14th Worst day of all in Fiji. A cyclone was meant to hit on this day but it was downgraded to a depression. Bucketing rain from morning to night. my favourite photo of all the birdy shots
  15. You are right, you either need a bigger flash OR are you shooting with flash with the lens hood on? If you have the lens hood on, remove it when you need to use the flash.
  16. I have just been through all the pages I have missed and all I can say is WOW. There are so many incredible photos in there so it would take a while to comment on them all but these are the ones I remember ILTBY - You are doing so well with your macro shots. Well done! PPS - I love that misty morning landscape of yours. It's stunning Rocco - Your sister must be cursing me by now. I'm loving your photos and funky colour toning. Ripley - I liked the rooftop sunset shot. Interesting aspect. ummm... I should have taken notes. I'm so sorry I can't remember everyone, but there are so many who have great images here. Anyway, I am about to load my holiday photos to this computer. It should be an interesting exercise...
  17. I have sooooo much to catch up on. I haven't downloaded photos yet but will be sure to spend some time going through everyones' posts from the last week. The few I've seen so far have been great
  18. I just went over to Flikr to check out my account and I have a few people congratulating me on the photo of Kayo. Apparently it made it onto the 'explore' pages. Cool.
  19. No Saturday photo from me. We have been a bit busy here. I'm off to Fiji this afternoon ( ) and if I don't get online over there to post, I'll do so when I return. There is some great work in here over the last few days.
  20. I'll post, but I can tell you right now this thread will likely be removed as last time my link was in a post, it was removed. It will be fun while is lasts though. www.savvystudios.com.au http://savvystudios.blogspot.com/
  21. hmmm... they should be the same size as the others I've posted. Sorry about that, don't stress, they're crap anyway
  22. Lack of motivation here... so two bad photos for the last couple of days. Jan 8th - Another day that I struggled to pick up the camera for the challenge. I took this single photo. It's a pin board that I have in my kitchen. It commemorates those rare moments that I actually step in front of the camera as I hate having my photo taken. They are all photos of me with some of my 'nearest and dearest' over the last few years. Put image through a B&W conversion. Texture added and brushed back in some places. Jan 9th - This image was photographed just before midnight. I really wasn't in the mood to get creative so this is a last ditch attempt to get a shot in for the 9th of January. I call it, 'get off the freaking computer, it's nearly midnight!' Just a simple B&W conversion. No other PS work I'll try and do something a little more creative today.
