  1. because you only just decided to scroll down the menu and see what was over there? :D :D Annie - cloning in LR sucks and is very unreliable. There isn't a great amount of control. It's not you.
  2. I was looking for words that could be captured graphically but had two meanings. I considered tear but went with wait instead. Good points though... I will change the list to say 'WAIT' instead.
  3. Shot on a canon kit lens (17-85mm) It won a silver award at the Aust Professional Photography Awards. The lenses aren't 'you beaut, super duper, awesome-sauce', but they still do a very decent job!
  4. The leica lenses on the other brands of cameras are good but Leica cameras with great Leica glass are beautiful. Very much toys for the enthusiasts and it doesn't surprise me that there are 'Leica snobs' out there.
  5. It wasn't Ralph who passed it was Rocco. Rocco = Bullmastiff Ralph = Dachshund
  6. Nope. Last year people found it easier to print the list and cross them off as they went.
  7. FEBRUARY HAS BEEN LAUNCHED IT'S UP IN THE CHALLENGES SUBFORUM Have fun everyone. I look forward to seeing your work in there.
  8. This was popular last year so I thought we'd do it again. Below are 25 'items' that you need to photograph. You are encouraged to think outside the square and not just take the obvious photo (because the obvious photo is the one that everyone will be considering). You will also find that most of the 'subjects' can have more than one meaning. Choose the meaning that appeals to you and go for it! Just like January, this challenge is simply to encourage you to get out and use your camera and have FUN! ITEMS: 1 choke 2 lemon 3 eek! 4 taste 5 woman 6 man 7 upside down 8 heel 9 earth 10 blue 11 crush 12 smile 13 wash 14 love 15 apple 16 dinner 17 stamp 18 wait 19 measure 20 outside 21 wind 22 card 23 high 24 blah 25 subtle
  9. I so need to get Alex to take photos of me when I'm shooting weddings. I start standing then realise I need to get lower, so I'll crouch. Then I need to get lower so I will sit on the ground, then I need to get lower but I don't want to ruin my clothes so I end up contorting myself basically in half to get the camera close to the ground without my shirt touching the ground. I've had a few people point out, "um, what are you doing sitting like that?" I know it must look very strange.
  10. So I take it you like the DSLR camera then Huga? Feel free to keep using it. I'm in no hurry to have it back here and it's nice to see that it's still capable of awesome images. (ETA - We all know Huga takes great photos - I'm talking about the fact that the camera is old and I know it has a few annoying issues and I'm suprised that the photos are coming out looking great!)
  11. Yep - that is the point of asking Troy to open a subforum for previous challenges. People can either add to old challenges or simply use them to brush up on stuff that has been covered in them. If people wish to keep going with this, they are most welcome, just be aware the thread will soon be moved to the 'challenges' subforum.
  12. Glad to see so many comments calling her selfish and stupid.
  13. Poor boy. I hope he recovers rapidly *no ratsac here either. Good quality traps are the more humane and safer option.
  14. Thank you Ruth. I was wondering about this. I told Serena a little while ago about my Great Dane who had to be PTS due to a back injury that couldn't be treated simply due to him being a giant breed. It's tough owning the big guys. :D
  15. Hugs to you and Ralph Cindy. How's Ralph today? It can take a bit of time for a dog to stop looking for his friends.
  16. I think Rocco (the human) will be taking a bit of a break for a while. Run free Rocco... a wonderful muse and much loved boy.
  17. Have you considered the rare, 'long eared guinea pigs'? We had a few of these elusive creatures when growing up (in Brisbane). They are a bit bigger than guinea pigs and have long ears. They look remarkably like rabbits actually... eat exactly the same, have all the same needs, actually, if you didn't know any better, you might actually say it was a rabbit... but they weren't. They were 'long eared guinea pigs'.
  18. I've found better homes for dogs that were advertised as 'give aways' than I have when pups were sold for $700. I find that because so many people enquire about the dogs, I get premium choice of owner - so far not a single 'give away' has been returned to me. Sunni was returned to me. She was sold at 13 months for just $200 and came back to me 6 months later. I can tell you right now that if she was a 'give away' back then, I would have had a plethora of awesome homes to choose from to send her to and without a doubt, she would not have ended up back with me. (which in the long run, I'm happy she came back. ) Just another spin on it...
  19. We used Brilliant Prints for the first time a couple of weeks ago. The quality is very good but I'm still not impressed with the customer service. It was a rush job as we needed the canvases urgently for an expo. We called and made sure they could do the order and they told us it wouldn't be a problem. Lucky that my husband called them late on the afternoon that we sent the order because they 'forgot' it was a rush job and simply put it in the queue (even though the email sent with it had "URGENT" marked on it and they were expecting the order to go through.) If we didn't call to confirm it was received we wouldn't have had the prints on time. Anyway, husband paid them over $600 by credit card when he picked up the prints (we are local) and they then sent us emails asking to pay the account. Husband contacted them and said it was paid and person on the phone got a bit huffy but said they would check. A couple of days later we got an email telling us that it was all sorted and it was a myob problem. I went into using them with a bit of fear so the experience just left a bad taste in my mouth. It probably wouldn't have bothered me so much if I hadn't heard the bad stories about their service prior to using them. That being said, we used them because it was a rush job and they were the people who could give us the fastest turn around - and they made the deadline and the product is good quality. If we had more time up our sleeves for the order, we would have gone with our favourites at Ally Harrison. They have changed hands recently but we tried them out again a few weeks ago and the quality and the customer service hasn't skipped a beat. LOVE THEM!
  20. bokeh is an easy one and will come under the aperture refresher.
