Hmmm... I wish I knew that about 12 years ago when I worked for a camera wholesaler and people would bring in their scratched lenses. I could have told them all they were making it up and sent them on their way. I don't know who told you that. Obviously it takes a bit of a whack or some sort of pressure to scratch them but it's not as uncommon as you seem to think. (but personally, I don't use filters either.)

Because some people have yards like me where the entire boundary is fenced. The dogs had full run of the yard for ages but we have put up fences where marked. However when we have a bitch in season we keep them seperate by having one run the main yard and one run the dog yard. (the dog yard also includes the courtyard out the back and our verandah). We only rent. We have no option to change the existing fencing and we've only been given permission to construct the two fences we have. I'm not going to lock my dogs up all day and it's impossible for me to stay out the yard with them 100% of the time and supervise them.

took about a minute (I'm waiting for work to upload.. have to do something.). The issue isn't removing the bar, the issue is replacing the leaves so they don't look fake or cloned.

50mm 1.4 is my favourite at the moment. The 24-70 2.8 is the most versatile though. Alex prefers to work with zoom lenses, I prefer to work with prime lenses. When I'm rich I want a wide prime (not sure which one yet) and the 100mm 2.8 macro. I've played with the 85mm 1.8 and didn't love it as much as I thought I would. Probably a good thing or else I'd want it too.

Kirislin - your anzac photos are PERFECT. If we shot those sort of photos at a wedding, we'd be very happy. Well composed.

5d Mark II has alot of focussing issues. If you're starting from scratch I would either wait until the MarkIII becomes available (hopefully with a better focussing system) or look at the 7D or look at Nikon. Now I'm going to play devil's advocate here for a little bit. I have been asked for opinions on photos when I'm out an about shooting at weddings and do you really think I'm going to say to a guest, "Your photos are horrible"? And yes, to make conversation I have said to people, "Oh, that's your photo on the board/placecards etc. Nice shot." Yes, it might be a little white lie but you can bet that they love me after that (and it IS all about business after all and I'm out there for the love and referrals.) I haven't looked at your photos so I don't know if they are good or bad, but all I'm saying is, take it with a grain of salt. For all you know the photographer may not be all that crash hot either, there are plenty of wannabes entering the market now that cameras are becoming more affordable and to that photographer, you could be awesome! If you want real opinions on your images, email me and I can give you names of unbiased people who will offer an opinion. These are the sort of people who love mentoring talented newbies but they will also be honest if they don't think you have the talent. As an aside though, I don't go into off topics all that much but I do have a brief scan every now and then... weren't you saying a few days ago that you rely on your ex's child support to make ends meet?? Maybe I'm thinking of someone else. Couldn't be bothered heading back to look. Anyway, let me know if you want those email addresses. It's easy, go over the Storey Bridge and sit in the right lane. You will go down the ramp and the road takes you to the right. At the first set of lights, turn right, follow that road to the very end. The park will be on your left.

Kayo - Day 45... she's not happy she's not allowed in the house. As soon as my other girl is out of season, the whelping box goes into the laundry and Kayo gets to stay in there.

Nice Ashanali! Oh I wish I lived up there, you could have some Pointee photos- although with Ashanali around you may already have some. Nope can't take the pointees. I can't risk having any of mine out and about mixing with other dogs when I'm due to have small puppies at home soon I would have loved to include Ronin in the shoot otherwise.

That sounds suspiciously like Ashanali :D Although I don't know if the noise she makes could be classed as a chicken noise (or a distinguishable noise of any kind) shhh... you'll give away my secret identity as 'super strangled chicken sound dog wrangler person'. :D

it hunted long enough that it missed integral moments during the ceremony. We rarely shoot with flash inside churches, so we need reliable lenses. The sigma wasn't up to it.

Even the big ones can fit into gaps you wouldn't imagine. They are also excellent diggers. If you're serious about preventing them from coming in, dig a trench about 20cm deep and run wire or plastic mesh in it as a barrier (obviously make sure that the top of the mesh meets flush with the existing enclosure.) The best thing you can do is turn the lights on and head outside every night and dispose of them. Over time you will get less and less of them or you will stop their progress in it's tracks. They like the lights being on and they like short grass. It makes it easy to pick them off. Also don't expect to whack them with a golf club and kill them. They can have their guts hanging out and be flattened but after you leave they will roll over, suck it all in and jump away. You really do need to bag, freeze and bin them.

The cold doesn't stop them. They just end up sleeping for a very long time. Hopefully it will slow them down enough that you can do something about it. Make sure there is no standing water within reach. Also if you have anything laying in your yard (old tarps/logs/concrete blocks/bricks/potted plant etc) make sure you clean them up or check under them as they are favourite hiding places during the day time.

I was watching a documentary on dogs vs wolves a while ago and apparently the 'safe day' is day 36. If pups are going to be reabsorbed, this will happen up to day 35. If they make it to day 36, they will be born (dead or alive apparently.) I think it was day 36?? My memory is foggy. It is something like that though. ETA: Sunni was shown at the Brisbane royal 5 weeks in whelp with 11 pups. She was runner up BOB. She looked a bit thicker set but she wasn't obviously pregnant. (2nd litter) I have Kayo here who will be six weeks tomorrow... she looks very in whelp (maiden litter)

I'll have to take some photos of Kayo tomorrow. She's definitely in whelp but I don't think it's a big litter. Maybe 5 or 6 (which suits me perfectly )

I had a test run of the sigma lens (for canon though). It was a great lens and very much on par with the genuine Canon lens... until we hit low light. We ended up with genuine canon.

I don't know what brand it is, but my mum bought some heavy thing when I was about 10 years old... my grandparents have it now. They have replaced the lid and the wheels but it's still going strong. I'm 33 soon - those steel things have a very long life.

If you go up to the challenges subforum, take a look through challenges from last year. Some of the challenges are about how to use the basic settings and what they do.

Where OMD lives dogs are sent to the RSPCA -no local pound and the RSPCA is on a contract to the council. The RSPCA are more than happy to put found dogs photo and details on their data base instead of actually having the dog physically at the shelter. Any enquiries are shown or directed to the data base. In Qld there is no legal requirement for dogs to be taken to the pound. Found dogs in Qld only have to be kept for 3 working days before PTS so they can actually have a better chance of being reunited with owners if housed at a private home prepared to keep teh dog longer than 3 days. You forgot to add that in Brisbane, they don't allow people to put their names down on dogs that have been brought in as strays. All dogs no matter what, go through crap temperament testing and any that fail are put to sleep, any that pass are put up for sale to the general public. It's first in best dressed up here.
