Lots of Photoshopping. Excellent lighting at the beginning, then a good knowledge of photoshop. There isn't as much photoshop as you think involved with these images.

I love my butchers. Older twin brothers who are a bit cheeky and know all the locals. They order me stock in just for the dogs and I've asked them if I can run batches of meat through their mincer when I have my litter of pups. They've said as long as they can do it during a quiet time they are happy to help me out. A good butcher is like gold when you have a dog. Hope the OP can find another who is willing to help!

Pretty much Gila, as long as it's still a creative or interesting image to look at. The rules of thirds challenge from April and the shoot to crop challenge in March will be a great help to people when composing images in an intersting way.

http://www.flickr.com/groups/nrsp/ That is just one sample. It's taking your camera to public places and shooting and hoping you don't get bashed. Just kidding. It's shooting in public. To avoid getting in trouble, make sure if you take a photo of someone and they have noticed you take a photo, you go over and introduce yourself, tell them what you're doing, show them the photo and ask if you are okay to use it. Most people will say yes, some people will ask you to delete it, a minority of people will be rude about it.

THANK YOU!

**ATTENTION PEOPLE ATTENDING THE SHOOT** Odd request but Rocco suggest I put this in here. If anyone going to the photoshoot has any old newspapers that they don't need, can you please bring them along? Kayo is due to have pups in 10 days and I'm needing to stockpile paper to line her whelping box. I probably only have enough paper to last about 4 days so I need as much as possible. Thank you

yep ETA: Animal subject snapped at a wedding yesterday. She was trying to hide from everyone rushing around the house. I caught her out though. Animals can definitely be great documentary subjects.

Sorry folks... It has been all action stations here and we've been flat out with work. May challenge has now been posted.

Sorry I have been late posting this month's challenge, it has been a hectic few weeks here and I was out shooting a wedding yesterday and was a little tired by the time I got home. This month's challenge is *Caught!* - documentary photography. The challenge is to capture the moment as it happens. You can't create moments, your subject can't be asked to pose or be posed for the camera. This is a challenge to creatively capture images of events that just happen. You either go out of your way to find the interesting OR you can make the mundane stuff interesting to look at. Documentary photography also includes street photography. There are no limitations to what you can shoot! Go forth, have fun!

you'd be wrong... but that's an interesting thought.

I know but I'm just trying to point out to people that just because a few people may have had a bad experience at a show with exhibitors not wanting to talk or being rude doesn't make us ALL that way It's tough reading stuff like that when I go out of my way to help people when I can and give them the info that they require... But you still need to think of it from a newby point of view too. While YOU might be willing to help, what happens to the person who just rocks up to a show and starts wandering around. They walk close to a dog and go to put their hand out and get snapped at, "Don't touch! We're about to go in the ring." and handler turns back to talk to whoever they were talking to before they were interrupted. So they walk up to a dog in a crate and they get snapped at, "Don't touch! The dog is protective of his crate." And the owner eyeballs them until they walk away. I have seen this happen so many times and I know that the exhibitors aren't at fault because they ARE doing the right thing for their dogs but the public also aren't at fault because they know no better and they are usually so put off from asking question after that so they no longer bother. It's intimidating being a person who has to try and initiate conversation with people when everyone else seems so familiar with each other. I KNOW that most people are willing to help as long as they aren't about to go into the ring but owners/breeders also need to look approachable or else the public will just walk past them and feel ignored. Yes, it takes two to tango and the public do need to put themselves out there and ask question because breeders aren't mind readers, I'm just pointing out how hard it can be for some.

Aziah, Spotty is buying a dog from my next litter so I know she doesn't entirely disagree. However I have been witness to some horrible treatment to newbies and general public at shows over the years. Yes, there are members who really do go out of their way to help but it only takes one rotten egg to ruin it for everyone. Moving along... I don't see people calling up and asking questions about the breed as timewasters as long as they make it clear what their intentions are. I even had a question about allergies asked on my blog last week... and I answered it as best I could. Time wasters = people who indicate they are interested in a puppy and tell breeders what they want to hear then at the last minute they say, "no, actually I'm not ready for a pup". Time wasters = the people who call up about 15 people over various breeds and go out to look at puppies with no intention of buying them, they just think it's a nice way to entertain the kids on a weekend (and yes, this does happen... and it puts puppies at risk when people go from one house to the next spreading germs from one litter to the next.)

I prefer liver and white coloured pointers... so what do I have in my yard. 2 lemon and whites and a solid liver

I have one person who calls me for a dog EVERY time I have a litter. I bred a litter in 99, 2000 x 2, 2004 and 2008. (and maybe another litter or two in there that I can't recall.) but EVERY time he calls me and asks about the litters and the pups and if he can come and see them. I find new creative ways to put him off each time as I know he's wanting to check them out for some strange reason. I'm dreading the inevitable call that will come when the new litter is advertised. THAT is just one definition of a time waster.

"Photo bitch strangled chicken sound dog wrangler person" I reckon that's an awesome job title for a resume.

Just to make it easy on Serena... the idea is that dogs MUST to be kept under control but the collars can't stand out. If a check chain is your choice, that's fine. If it's a flat collar, that's fine too, just as long as it's similar to the colour of the dog OR very plain.

Don't stand too close. 35 mm is the optimal focal length, if you go less than 35mm, you will get noticable distortion of the people at the edge of the frame.

It's a beautiful image.

My fatty getting fattier 13 days to go.
