Agility Equipment Looking Different To Dogs
helen replied to helen's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I had no idea that it was so common as my other 2 dogs never had the problem. - Very weird about the UD box, maybe they are looking at the other obstacles instead of the box? -
Does anyone have this book, I am wondering if it is a good one and worth buying - http://www.airdogs.com.au/agility/product....=248&page=2 Also is it a workbook that has exercised you can work through?

Traditional Vs Clicker Method.

Must puppy pre school classes do not use a clicker for their training, so I would just follow what the instructor is doing and start with clicker training after that. -
Making Agility Jumps From Pvc Piping

That's great, thanks. I feel a trip to Bunnings coming on -
Chazer has just started doing agility trials. We train at night time with a yellow and white dog walk. At the trial in the day time he was presented with a black and yellow dog dog walk. The first trial he had no idea there was a dog walk as it looked wrong to him, until after several attempts I actually moved my hand up along the obstacle. He had is 2nd go yesterday. His first go he went past again but just after he went passed it clicked that the thing was the dog walk and went to jump up from the side but I called him away and got him to go up properly. His 2nd go yesterday he had finally worked out they can look different and went straight up it with no worries PS - This has nothing to do with fear as he absolutely loves the dog walk - he just had it in his mind the dog walk had to look a certain way

Sorry if this has been done before, but I want to make some jumps from PVC piping and was wondering if anyone can demonstrate what to do

My thoughts exactly. Flip finish, I have only done the behind version, indicated with my right hand. As only Bella could do I remember at a trial she was in indicating to return from recall and she just out of the blue decided that a flip finish was required that day - funny thing is I had never taught it to her, only ever tried it a couple of times and didn;t like it

Craig Murray Seminar/workshop

OT - Are non members allowed to attend the first aid seminar? -
That is great news Luke, hopefully all will stay good. My girl Tilly started getting weepy eyes after problems she had after being bitten of the face by another dog. Vets never could stop the weeping and we saw an eye specialist and go the all clear for her eyes but they still weep, her problem is now more cosmetic than anything so he also recommended Clojo Eye Conditioner.

Have a look at this website under clicker training - http://www.k9events.com - will tell you everything you need to know. Also has a link to an excellent free puppy book by Ian Dunbar - After You Get Your Puppy - in the puppy pages -
Great bargain I also love lightroom. Was talking to a wildlife photographer that uses lightroom. He said that when he goes on trips he takes loads of photos so it is by far the best tool for him editing his photos - I tried the trial version

Have you joined the Oz Obedience Trialling group because you might get some great tips there -http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/OzObedienceTrialling/ - it is a reward based training list for obedience trials and there is bound to be some Adelaide people on there too

There is also photoshop elements which is a great program and much cheaper than CS3

puppy biting is very normal behaviour, and you can use it to develop a soft bite and then stop the biting - look on this website under puppy pages for some links http://www.k9events.com Also, download this free, excellent book from the internet that discusses the problem on page 79 http://www.k9events.com/AFTER_You_Get_YourPuppy.pdf

One thing I can tell you for certain with the Brittany breed they are notorious lead pullers, so be very sure not to let it become a habit from the beginning if you don't want your dog to pull, never move forward if the pup is pulling (and this will take some patience), and you may not get very far from the front door some days This is a good link - http://www.perfectpaws.com/pup7.html

I agree, a good puppy school is priceless. Have a look at this link for some great socialisation tips and there is also a link on the page about choosing a puppy school http://www.k9events.com/pups3.html - If I was taking one of my Brittanys to a puppy class I would prefer to see a Delta qualification You have a young excitable puppy, teach it things like watch, sit in a non distracting environment (indoors) and very gradually add distractions for better success, and remember your pup is young and excited and it sounds like you are putting the effort in so she will improve in time. I would recommend one of these books too http://www.amazon.com/Puppy-School-Steps-P...2040&sr=1-6 http://www.amazon.com/Perfect-Puppy-Newly-...2040&sr=1-1

Your Very First Obedience Trialling Dog
helen replied to RubyStar's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Bella was my first (and only) obedience titled dog. We did plenty of training for open too which was great fun but I never had the desire to trial because agility is much more fun for me - I get very nervous and stressed in the obedience ring so don't enjoy it so much. I would probably do more if I wasn't so nervous, maybe next dog I will try again as I may be less nervous after doing so much agility
