  1. Hi Pomq! I have been thinking about finding a holistic vet too, as the vet's have come to the conclusion that my boy has atopic dermatitis and there is nothing other than cortisone they can really give him. So I just did a quick google and found this! http://extraonline.com.au/stories/story/8326.html He is up on the Sunny Coast before Maroochydore! Might be worth a shot!?!?
  2. Benson is still itching & like crazy this morning - I am wondering if I should take him to the vet and get some steroids for a bit - please let me know how you go at the vet's this morning Laffi!
  3. I'm sure you know this already WM but that pink orange tinge means they have allergies - sorry so new to this and this trying to figure out how to help my boy stop itching!
  4. The question is what colour as the paw pad hairs or between his hind legs. I have had advised recently for my GR to add evening primrose oi,l tablets daily to his diet ( perhaps a smaller tablet - mine on 1000mg, I understand dependant upon the poo) as he has skin issues too, plus zinc daily kelp every second day, to boost his immune system apple cidar vinegar in his water or food!
  5. Classic Show Supplies (in Aust) sell it http://www.classicshowsupplies.com.au/cata...a995c02c1687022
  6. http://eaglepack.com.au/tabid/54/ProductID/42/Default.aspx Hey PF are you talking about EP Holistic Duck formula? Hehehe I they have a typo on this link - dog instead of duck! oops!
  7. Thank you Peigirl - you are a tremendous wealth of knowledge!!!
  8. Borage Oil - can you get it at the supermarket or only chemist and health food stores???
  9. Ok I have got it now, 1 tablet or fish oil and 1 tablet of evening primrose oil - both 1000mg!
  10. Ok let's go backward a step - that 180/120 is only the ratio in the actual fish oil tablets - is that correct? So if you are giving a fish oil tablet that is 180/120 of the DHA and EPA then how much EPO do you give for the right amount of GLA?
  11. Ok let me see if I understand this - 1000mg tablets of fish oil to 400mg of EPO???
  12. Hope he comes good - perhaps even feed from your hand for a bit just so he know he is loved! Good luck and I really would love to hear that he is doing really well in a few weeks times
  13. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=81686 Try the Satin Ball Recipes on the thread above. I also remember reading a while back that vegemite simulates hunger so maybe a few biscuits covered in vegemite 10 mins before hand and them maybe a few more amongst his meal as well!
  14. http://www.blackdog.net.au/index.php?page=...rt&Itemid=5 Ahona - scroll down on this page and it shows what they are.
  15. Yep that's the healing process - keep treating it though until it is back to just skin!
  16. My Goldie got one 2 weeks ago and he is only a kid The vet said that I had done a fantastic job on the hot spot (we still had to go though as he is very itchy in between his hind legs at the moment) - hair cut away from around it, diluted Betadine, dried with paper towel, sponging action not wiping and then Curash powder - which is zinc powder. They are a bactrial infection that can occur due to a number of reasons and it is hard to determine the cause generally. Flea, mozzie or sandfly bites, matted hair or rained undercoat, prolonged dampness, etc etc. Here is a very informative website. http://www.thepetcenter.com/exa/hotspots.html This is Bneons a week after beginning treatment - good luck I know they are awful but do heal over quite quickly - just take a long time for the hair to grow over again. Edit- By the way Rosegold - there is a Retriever thread in Breed Sub Forum - please come and say hi if you like and post a few piccies of your bubs! Here is the link http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showforum=51
  17. Only a suggestion - but perhaps rather than lumping a massive bowl infront of him - try hand feeding him out of the bowl for a bit to try to slow down the eating?!?! Just a thought no wisdom as Benson has always been a paced eater yet might be worth ago
  18. IMO for desexing alone $155-$200 max - anymore and they are ripping you off I say. Usually the cut off is 25kg (cheaper below and more expensive above 25kg - diff around$20-$30,) due to the amount of anaesthetic required. Also pain killers should be included in the cost - not on top! I doubt they would charge you too much more for the hernia?!?! Edit - sp
  19. I have only just read about this stuff - so not personally tried it - but I understand that people that have tried the shampoo and spray really recommend it! So maybe worth a go after the oitment that the vet gave you! Eqyss is the product name - not stocked by many places. http://www.petsonthepark.com.au/category123_1.htm
  20. Have you tried antihistamines and apple cidar vinegar in his water Sas??? I also have a huge list of other things you could try as the cause may well be sandflies/midgies. Virtually invisable but vile little creatures that cause incredible itching for long periods of time - up to 2 mths!
  21. Frozen chicken necks, forzen carrots, frozen bottle of coke - with the label removed, the lip cut off and top removed prior to give them one with diluted chicken or beef stock is also great - and all help in keeping puppy cool in summer months too!
