  1. Hi Loraine Sorry but could I please harass you for all the details with your Zedley. Was it suspected that Zedley had Atopia? See Benson has not ever had a rash, but his coat since Oct 07 has been coarse but two days after washing become dirty looking like oily hair on a human and he gets a certain scent about him - not sure if you would call it yeasty as I have terrible sinuses. See I gave him Mega Oil for ages now Mega Derm so he hasn't lost all his coat. We have tried several antihistamines without change. If left without his Elizabethan collar on he would a walking open sore as I don't have him on Cortizone. Did do prednisone last year but as soon as the dose was coming down the itching increased. The itching increases in spring but does not go away during winter. Sorry I just would love to know what you have been through to get to this stage as I am going to be seeing my vet next week and am thinking of requesting a blood test prior to doing the intradermal skin test. Not meaning to hijack Cheers Susan
  2. Hey Sharon, neither have large breed puppy food Proplan do if you can sore it in your area http://www.proplan.com/products/GiantBreed_DryPuppy.html or perhaps ask the question of other giant breed owners what supplements they give their dogs if they feed raw and then feed a food like barko + the supplement
  3. These are the ingredients in both foods HILLS Ground Whole Grain Corn, Chicken By-Product Meal, Corn Gluten Meal, Dried Beet Pulp, Chicken Liver Flavor, Pork Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid), Fish Oil, Flaxseed, Soybean Oil, Iodized Salt, Potassium Chloride, L-Lysine, vitamins (L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (source of vitamin C), Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin, Thiamine Mononitrate, Vitamin A Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin, Folic Acid, Vitamin D3 Supplement), Choline Chloride, Vitamin E Supplement, L-Tryptophan, minerals (Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Copper Sulfate, Manganous Oxide, Calcium Iodate, Sodium Selenite), preserved with Mixed Tocopherols and Citric Acid, L-Carnitine, Calcium Carbonate, Beta-Carotene, Rosemary Extract. OPTIMUM Chicken and chicken by-products; cereal protein; corn; wheat; sorghum; rice; tuna meal; beef tallow; minerals (di-calcium phosphate, potassium chloride, zinc sulphate, ferrous sulphate, copper sulphate, potassium iodide, selenium); sugar beet pulp; vegetable oil; salt; chicken digest; inulin; vitamins (A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, B12, C, D, E and choline); sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP); taurine; plant extracts (marigold meal, lucerne extract, tomato powder); preservative; colostrum; antioxidants; beta carotene and glucosamine hydrochloride. I understand that the first ingredients on the list of ingredients are what there is most of in the food. So there is more chicken than cereal in optimum vs hills. Hope that help hon and sorry to hear about your split, take care of you too k!
  4. Feeding guideline: A 50lb active dog should be fed 275-375g / 2¾ - 3¾ cups. Less active dogs 200 - 275 g / 1¾ - 2½ cups http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_re...t=915&cat=8
  5. My god it still looks so painful  to you both!
  6. The reason people are finding their dogs are windy/sloopy poops is because Orijen does NOT contain beet pulp which is contained is almost all foods available in Australia. This ingredient makes poops firms and thus without a long change over peiod for some dogs you will get soft and smelly poops.
  7. If you can lift your dog place him or her on a table as that way they are kind of forced to tolerate it and then as poodlefan said do small bursts and reward with really yummy treat - cheese or sausage!
  8. Did you get the intradermal skin test done EM2? If so what was your staffy x allergic too?
  9. Also you do need to be quite wealthy as they are around $400 per mth script.
  10. No much help but I think there is an electrolyte drink thing that you can buy from the Chemist to help keep their hydration up. Call the vet and see what they think. Good luck I hope they get over it really quickly.
  11. Unfortuntalely I will have to do the same as you need to pay up front and then get reimburse within 30 days I think
  12. Oh cool thank you Peigirl! I was just quoted through a specialist centre (only place I personally know that has a dermatologist so I called) $146 for consult and $400 for test and then anywhere between $250 - $500 for the injections. I wonder how much my insurance would cover *sigh* Aaahh awesome re the withholding period, it's been 3 wks since his last antihistamine.
  13. For those of you who have had the intradermal skin testing done on their dog, could you please tell me how much it cost? Also if you have had the Heska Allercept test how much did that cost? I am going ahead with it for sure but need to be prepared money wise Also can anyone tell me more about the drug withholding period prior to the test occurring? THank you for your assistance in advance
  14. That's exactly what I was going to say! Any one with a dog allergic to dandelion / daisy family wants to avoid this!!! What a ridiculous thing to have in a product for atopy!! Several daisy family plants are used in liver / skin care things, but as its a common atopic allergy so that's just naff to have it in a food for atopy!! I'd also wait until you know the results of the intradermal testing as he may come up allergic to things like storage mites too, which live in dry foods... in which case you need to look at alternative diets or freezing the food to kill the mites etc. Edit for clarity... Thank you for your input, I really appreciate it, as I would never have thought of that!
  15. Drug withholding time??? The only things he takes are Interceptor Spectrum, Advantix and Megaderm.
  16. Well regardless she is adorable! You got to click on product guide (was looking too!) http://www.royalcanin.us/adx/aspx/adxGetMe...SkinSupport.pdf Here is the link otherwise!
  17. I have been googling that but could not come up with actual proper info on it - just prices and the feline one kept coming up! THANK YOU VERY MUCH! Will look into this as well! Do you know how much for a bag, how many kgs in a bag and how much do you need to feed?
  18. Oh d'oh I didn't even think about that *need slaps head emoticon* Ok will get another few weeks supply of roo even when we are finsihed the 4 wk trial and then after finding out if the antihistamine works sorting out the food then. I had him on Mega Oil (human stuff) but he is now on Megaderm which is omega oil blend specifically designed for dogs. Also he did not do well on EP duck/oatmeal, prior to that was EP Holisitic Large Puppy - better on that IMO and prior to this diet he was on Orijen seem to be healthier looking during the winter mths on this than EP duck. Edit - He is also being bathed in Pyohex. Tried EPO shampoo - did not help him at all and definitely is not contact allergies as he has never had a rash. Edit love your new siggy - Sofia looks like a statue in that piccie
  19. I think we are doing the prick test before he trials the antihistamines/cotravance. We have done a flea allergy test already though.
  20. Thanks Alison will have a good read tonight! Dory - we visited a homeopathic vet 4 times and each time the scratching became worse and he said at the onset he would cure Benson and we would only have to see him a maximum of four times before that occurred. Unfortunately he is not cured. We will be trialling Doggy Antihistamines and Cortvance next I believe but just wonder what I should feed him after the roo/sweet potato elimination trial has finished, we are almost at three weeks and not a thing has changed
  21. Hi all Hoping to hear back from owners who's dogs have been diagnosed with Atopia and what you have found is the best food for your dogs. Also wondering if any of the prescription diets on the market have helped your dogs skin conditions? Coming towards the end of an elimination diet - roo and sweet potato and wondering what to feed now that it appears it is definitely atopia and nothing else. Whether to bother with prescription diets or just feed a quality dog food, plus megaderm and whatever medication will be trialled next by the vet. Thank you for your help in advance!
  22. Priceless Pets is in Wooloowin - Wooloowin Vet Clinic. Excellent prices for flea/worming/tick products! Pet Centro in Clayfield and PetStock in Indooroopilly & Caboolture do not sell live animals. Also just across the river in Cannon Hill is Petwise which is also good (only fish are sold there). Canine Country for Barf has an outlet in Burpengary but ring a few days before hand and they will get in what you need (bones/meat wise) they also stock Orijen but again I would call as they are a very small store and mainly produce minces/barf patties etc.
