Look on Ebay under the name Pupper Power (that is the seller) I bought the pens, crate, crate cover (came seperately and bedding from them .. I could pick up as I am in Melbourne so saved heaps on postage ... good prices and honest seller (young couple known through another friend of mine).

Or, as Luke W said ...a crate like this inside a pen like we did .. now only the crate at night

Yahoooo!!! Congratulations!! Don't be surprised if you get a night here or there when he does not want to go to bed though .. Nodole acted up last night for 15 minutes in her crate (yes, she had been toileted .. just did not want to go to bed!) .. hasn't done this for about a month .. apart form that she is happy. So pleased you are persisting! All happy in your house! Sleep well!

Hi Poochmad ... you may want to check out this thread too http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=131889

Hang in there .. I feel your pain .. can empathise as I was the same (the sleep deprivation is awful .. not since I breastfed the kids was it as bad ... BUT it doesn't last 12 months so hang in there) .. just hang in there .. shut the bedroom door, watch tv (if you have one in your bedroom) .. read a book .. anything to try and take your mind of the howling .. put a radio on or tv on in teh same room as puppy as this may help calm him down. We have a cover for our crate ... see photos below.

Hi! Sorry just found this thread .. I get my dry food from Petstock in Mitcham .. I am also changing over my pup from Advance rehydratable to EP. I tend to get the Advance or Ep when they have 50% off sales .. the last time they had run out but ordered some in for me (worked out to $15 a 3kg bag!! bargain! So, I either get two bags at 50% off (or two for the price of 1 = 4 bags) and keep a good stock at home. My pup gets a mixture of the dry kibble and chicken mince (with chicken frames occassionally) and vegies thrown in. Works well for her as she has a sensetive tum

The pup is Tibetan terrier & here is a photo: It's so difficult to take a good photo of a black dog. I hope I'll get better at it. Noodle seems to take good photos - he's so cute. Thanks for all the input everyone . I think I better take it serioiusly & not walk with Rosie until she's 16 weeks. By then she'll lget some obedience training at home & probably in the local Kennel club. I love the idea to use the "walks" to school for training... Ahhhhhhh!! A TT!!!!! I love them!!! When I researched breeds for us the TT was on the list (we decided on a Puli but the TT was my number two!! I like lots of breeds but I could easily see us having a TT ... one dog is enough at the moment though. The TT has very similar features as the Puli .. different coat but tail up over the back .... stunning puppy!! I agree balck dogs and particularly one without 'eyes' is nearly impossible to photograph ... looks like a black blob!! Becasue Noodle's nose is black I have to wait for her to start panting to have something to aim at!! The pink tongue of hers at least distinguishes the front from the back!! Caught our son patting her butt thniking it was her head the other night LOL He realised after a couple of minutes it was the wrong end.

As they say ... pictures speak a thousand words .. here was our set up at one end of the kitchen for the first few weeks. Now Noodle is still tethered on a long lead (I can see her at all times but puppies lack control and like to 'explore') in the kitchen area when inside with us although more and more each week she is now 'off' and she knows she needs to stay in the kitchen area rather large area) or in the lounge on the rug ... not allowed on the parquetry or into the bedrooms (too much risk ... lovely dolly and beanie bears to chew and bioicles and Lego ..LOL expensive visit to the bedrooms if she gets in there and I end up at the vet with her). Again, she goes for lots of walks, lots of time outside with us and on her own, lots of toys rotated etc. Did the puppy school thing, training at home and now at obedience although having her speyed just over a week ago has put a spanner in the works ... can't wait to get back but will have to wait until the stitches come out (12-14 days) end of this week and then to be safe will wait one more week before taking her back.

Ditto to the above (BUT! what's with the toilet diary Luke W!!! Way tooooo much time on your hands .... do you take piccies too ... little bit like CSI!! :D ) Our pup is now 6 months and still does not have reigh of the house. Noodle went into the back room for a play the other night and went on the carpet (missed the signs .. our own fault!!) ... I also have a theory that dogs may think the carpet is like teh lawn and go on that .. she hasn't been on the parquetry or the lino for a VERY long time)

Ahh.... you could turn this into a fabulous training opportunity! I did! Worked well with Noodle. Try having the pup on a longer lead and having the kids move ahead and keep pup back. Arm kids with a high value treat (we use tiny slithers of grated cheese .. don't growl at me DOLers .. that is the ONLY thing that works and doesn't give her the runs and I am adverse to wiping a Puli's butt!! ... glad I got that out .. now where was I ...) and have them practice using your pup's name or 'COME' with the appropriate hand signals .. as the pup heads in their direction YOU need to run to keep up ... the kids treat her when she gets to them ... only if your pup does not jump up .. have them come down to pup's level to prevent this happening. You will get to school fast and your pup would have learnt soemthing in the process ... Of course listen to the advice of other DOLers re: immunisation and risks etc. Alternatively teach the kids not to run ahead but stay slightly behind you so pup does not feel they have to 'keep up' and chase ... also use high value treat as a lure as you go along and stop and praise regularly. Mind you there is no squealing or playing chasey around our house .. unless the kids want their heels nipped at ..... big 'turn on' for our pup (working breed - Hungarian Puli) ... we prefer fetch games and hide and seek games to chasey for this reason. Dunno what other DOLers think of this suggestion but it worked well for us in having our pup recognise her name and the command 'COME'. PS any excuse for a piccie .... :p

Want a Sign Language Interpreter perhaps I am happy to 'consult' ... LOL I kid you not .... lots of Deaf people teach their dogs sign .........obviously not for your purposes of course ... although there might be someone Deaf on DOL.. never know.

Hi 'jeddica' Yes, we took out insurance for our pup this time around .. I have memories of my dog growing up costing my parents a heap with a perforated bowel and his back legs went. Like others I printed out all the insurance policies I could find and went through them in great detail. We have chosen to pay a higher excess ($200) to keep the monthly costs down but then get 80% back from the claim. I didn't go the 'well being' extras as it just did not seem to work out based on the monthly payments. I ended up going with 'Petsecure'. Have not had to use it ..... touch wood ....

Flat/rolled Collar Recommendations?
NoodleNut replied to Luke W's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have also had Black Dog stuff until Noodle decided to 'mouth' the lead once or twice while she was teething and wrecked the Black Dog lead GRRRR!!! I hunted around and found Lupine leads and collars. I have bought a lead and collar online http://www.petalia.com.au/templates/prodsu...m?group_no=6143 and found them to be great quality. I was fortunate to also find them on the 'REI outlet' (USA) website and snaffled up a lead, collar and harness at half the price!! Great deal even with the exchange rate and postage! Unfortunately they are out of stock now .. I must have got in quick. I have not found the Lupine range in any stores and I have done a ring around .. great product though, lifetime guarantee even if chewed. Mind you, Noodle no longer mouths the lead -
We have an 11m lead from Black Dog .. google them as they have a site. I know they also have for big dogs too.. not the cheapest though.

Bring onthe photos!! Can't wait to see them ...waht a hoot!!

I can relate!! We are married with kids now but I remember when we were a couple and all our friends were running off doing stuff and we were never invited because we didn't have kids!! Now we rather go on our own or with people that don't have kids! Too many kids makes it difficult when they are still young ....littlies have sleep times and we are creeping around trying to to wake them up in the middle of the arvo!! Ours always like having another grown up along ... our eldest (10 years old) sees it as another victim to thrash in Monolpoly, canasta or other card game Ours are old enough for bike riding with Noodle in tow in the K9!! See piccies ... great when she is still a pup and can't go the distance we travel. Is there a thread on DOL where you can advertise for other campers perhaps??

Hi! Here is a photo of Noodle's kennel ... similar situation to you .. we have nearly finished an extension on the back of the house but no pergola as yet ... she has the kids cubby or their undercover sandpit though and this whopper of a dog house (I got some carpet squares from the local carpet place ... you know the ones you buy for between $2 - $10 depending on the size and put them in the kennel for an insulating effect....I figure she still needs some insulating at this age. There is another thread somewhere on kennels and one of the suggestions I had was to line the kennel with the carpet for a dog that does not have the double coat. The top of the kennel flips up for cleaning too.

I did something similar when Noodle was little .. here is teh set up I had with a pen inside and the crate door open also.

Ditto ... black wire crate also bought from Ebay mine was a great price and I also bought a crate cover too. I was able to pick up too from the seller I had (close to me and in Melbourne ... let us know where you are and then it is easier to direct you to the right place) so saved on the delivery costs. I also bought a few other things from this seller .. all good quality and no problems at all with the transaction. The buyer I used was 'PuppyPower' Here is my crate and the crate cover that I bought .. took some shots tonight to show another DOL (different thread)

Here are the last two .. really hard to get a good idea of how she fits in it .. some of the photos make her look tiny in teh crate and others make her look HUGE! ... believe me .. it is a great size for her even if she grows another two inches (she is 14" now and female Puli standard is 14" to16" although the breeder thinks Noodle is on the smaller size)

Ok, Here we go .. just took some photos of Noodle & her crate before I took her out for a pee/poo and put her to bed. (Minus the Elizabethen collar she is wearing as she was speyed last Friday so not trusted to not lick her stitches overnight.

Ok - have been reading all the great advice on this issue. I've noticed some of the crates people put their small dogs in are huge. I had already purchased a carrier/dog tent but is that too small? The function is the same but is it worth looking for a larger crate - is the reason so they can run around in it, or toilet in it perhaps? I don't think I've got it clear in my head the main reasons for the crate/vs doggy tent I guess. I may be missing something sorry I'm a bit of a dumb blonde :-) In my photo the crate does look big but Noodle was only about 8 - 13 weeks when the photo was taken. I will try and get a photo of Noodl etonight in her crate and post it for you tomorrow. Noodle is now 6 months and getting close to her maximum size from what the breeder suggests. I bought the crate the size it is so that it would fit Noodle full grown. Sh ecan easily stand up and move around and lie down completely in comfort .. no she does not play in there. When she wants to go to the toilet she will ususally shake her head/scratch her neck and the tags jangle so I put her out for a wee/poo and then back into the crate. The photo also showed the crate door opening into the pen where there were wee pads and water. Once Noodle was going regularly on the pads and then outside and listening to 'Go wee' I removed the pen and she only slept in the crate. The pen was great when she was little and I couldn't supervise her. Not sure how the tent idea would work with toileting. Pup might think it is large enough to 'get away' from teh poo/wee and toilet in the tent on one side.

Our pup is outside and in when we are home (not all the time but she does like being with us). I like the crate as I don't have to worry about her disturbing neighbours and finding possums, birds or just generally shadows that might take her fancy and encourage her to let out a bark. Noodle is also protected from teh elements .. although with that coat of hers she would be quite fine outside. Mind you Noodle does not shed so we can have her inside and not worry about hair everywhere. Have a read about the crate idea .. I must admit Ithought they looked pretty cruel until I did a bit of reading and realised it was just a den and it could be a place that was safe, portable and comfortable. I also like the idea that she is not wandering the house and doing things she shouldn't. I can also control the toileting at night as she wont go in her den which means 100% 'success' each time she toilets as it is outside. When you say that Lucian will be an outdoor dog do you also intend to have him sleep outside at some point or always inside at night. Oh, one other thing .. our last dog many years ago was terrified of thunder storms (and fireworks) .. got worse as he got older .. I was hoping that the crate would be a place Noodle would feel comfortable retreating to if there ever was a storm with lightening or fireworks.

What a gorgeous pup and a lovely name might I add. With our pup (now 6 months) we have her crated (wire one that flat packs) in the kitchen as, like you, we did not want her in our room or in the kids room overnight. Noodle acted up as you describe Lucian does. I made sure Noodle was toileted and had fresh water attached to the inside of the crate and then went to bed and completely ignored her. Hard I know. We did this in the middle of the week .. very bad idea .. everyone was awake at the kerfluffle and OH not impressed as had important early meeting at work the next day. We then lapsed for a day and tried again on a friday night. Put Noodle in the crate with a lovely frozen chicken neck 9 or two stuck together frozen ora pigs ear or something he will like) and went out with the family Friday night shopping for 1.5 - 2hours. When we got home she had been asleep and must have started to learn that making a racket gets you nowhere .. also less stressful for us. We then took her for a little walk and play, toileted again and put her in the crate about 11pm (this way the kids were well and truly sound asleep and wouldn't wake up short of a 747 jet skimming the top of the house ... yes, she carried on .. shut the bedroom door and refused to go to her. She did eventually settle. We continuted this practice until she was happily going in the crate at night. Now she is 'portable' and we can take her anywhere to sleep, inside or out (our crate has a canvas cover which is waterproof), in the tent camping .. etc. No concerns about her roaming around the house, toileting in the wrong place (she has never toileted in the crate. It is cool in summer and I put a soft bed in it during winter). Must admit to being a crate convert. We initially started with a pen in the kitchen with the crate in the pen (see photo) but have only used the crate now for the past few months. The pens are useful outside should be need to contain her (like when she was speyed last week and we wanted to keep her quiet) when tradesman visit, camping etc. At this age if you decide to go the crate idea you will need to still toilet Lucian during the night. At 9 weeks I was up at 2am and 4am and 6am with Noodle (felt like a baby in the house again!!). Noodle sahkes and her tages rattle and I know she needs to go out now. She is in the crate at about 10:30/11ish each night and usually wakes at about 5ish when my OH lets her out and then she comes back in at about 7am to spend time with the kids before they head off to school. Re: Outdoor time .. We bought Noodle an Aussie Dog toy .. it is a bungee rope that hangs from the carport or similar structure with a yellow ball on it that rattles (you can also put dry kibble in it so it falls out when puppy pupps on the hose hard enough .. knowing labs are keen on their food ... excuse me if I am wrong in this assumption .... your pup might have som eof his dinner in the ball rather than additional treat food) and a fireman's hose about 20cm long on the bottom. I put this out for Noodle when I go out and some toys (lots of toys that I rotate) that she only gets when I go out. When we are home or on the weekends all of this stuff comes inside and reappears when I have to go to work for a few hours each day. I have noticed that she does not seem to pine for us and is busy entertaining herself on the Aussie dog .. I have another similar toy that is a rope on the end of a bungee and she also plays tug of war with this (this game is banned in our house with humans but she can play it with her toys on her own).
