I got my crate from Dealsdirect, they don't seem to have them anymore I think the wave of pet injuries has hit me On Sunday I took the dogs to my bro's where they had a lovely time swimming in the pool, in typical style Trixie (who can't swim particularly well, but she is getting better) is the only dog who thinks it's great fun leaping off the side of the pool into the water Particularly if there is another dog swimming at the time to try and land on (she was told off for this - naughty dog) They were fine on Sunday, just tired, but yesterday I noticed she was a bit stiff before work, thought she might have just been a bit sore, then when I got home yesterday I knew she must have been bad because she wouldn't even jump up to greet me (she's a shocking jumper) but Kyzer was also limping, he has had burnt paws before from the pavers so I thought this may have happened again but when he did it last time he was sore for one day and then was fine so I left it. This morning she was worse again, very sore, I still thought it was burnt pads and was going to take her to the vet after work, gave her some pain killers left over from when she had the abscess, my OH flew in today and said she got up, said hello pathetically then went and laid down again and then went outside but didn't seem to want to move I asked him to take her to the vet and vet says her feet aren't burnt but she has strained the toes on both back legs, and they are swollen, I hadn't noticed any swelling last night when I was inspecting them, but I had noticed her front feet didn't seem sore, it wa smainly her back feet. Kyzer was back to normal when OH got home and is running around like a loon. She's on Rimadyl for a week and if it doesn't improve he says go back for X-Rays (but I'd probably go to a Bowen / Chiro / acupuncture type person first like Deb Nook) I feel so bad that I let her overdo it, she seemed fine at the time! Poor Trixie, tonight is her first 'proper' agility class and she has to chuck a sickie!

Good idea BonJosie, when my pups were little I'd take them outside and have crazy ball games in the rain and thunder I think the neighbours thought I was bonkers. Neither of them have any issues with storms now.

Great, another book for me to buy Oh this is the thing people were talking about from the seminar the other week? Thanks for the link, will do some of that.

Do you mean verbally? I don't tell him to take jumps verbally but try to direct him to them with my hand/arm, maybe I'm not being clear or not turning soon enough so he goes too wide around them, will play around at training with some clearer cues. I haven't really done any LM stuff with Kyzer, I am doing it with Trixie though, have been shown some collection/recall to heel exercises by SH and have the new LM book, might have a look through and see if there are exercises in there that may help, good idea. Yes I liked Open, the jumping was good because it was spread out I had no option but to trust him to do a fair bit of it at a distance because I couldn't catch up and he coped really well, I think I babysit him too much in trials sometimes I was always scared of open because all the top handlers do it too and I get nervous about them watching, but I think I'm over that now I know the dogs you mean, the ones who are blissfully taking jump after jump while their handler has gone the other direction ;) He knows what I want if there is one jump and I have food/ball, just doesn't translate to courses sometimes, maybe just need to do more of it. Thanks :D

Back from the trial, our first for the year, thought I'd bite the bullet and enter Kyzer in scary open classes. Man it is exhausting doing 4 runs in one night ;) Don't know how multiple dog people do it (guess I'll find out myself soon! ) I was really really pleased with him, in ADX (our first ADX run) he was doing great but popped the weavers (second last obstacle), there was a huge piece of ibis poo right next to the pole got the weavers on the 3rd attempt. JDO did really well also but failed the distance challenge, didn't help that I yelled out the wrong obstacle name ) ADO was another great one, his A frame contact was dodgy though ;) And he got the distance challenge brilliantly with a lot of speed! Then popped out of a tunnel because it was bending away from where I was running - understandable, something to work on. JDX was a shamozzle, I was buggered and thought I went the wrong way (but hadn't ;) ) and he wasn't feeling it after three runs in the hot muggy weather which was a big ask for him - he has little legs and limited stamina Here's his ADO run, so pleased with it, we couldn't even manage basic novice agility courses without shutting down last year, he had improved for the last two trials of the year and has obviously carried it through to this year. I actually really enjoyed the open runs, will definitely enter them more often! They're not that scary!! Very pleased with his improvement. I think I may need to build more value for jumps though - any suggestions? He will sometimes run past them.

Wow I've never seen a spider like that! Very interesting little fellow

My dogs don't 'do' mornings They take after their owner
-
It's not the dog leaving the ring, it's the handler leaving the ring without their dog on lead, a lot of our dogs run out of the end of the ring, the handlers call them back to them and attach the lead and there are no problems that I've seen? I have been known to carry my dog out of the ring, I do attach his lead though

Yep it is TSD - 3 refusals = DQ
-
It's a refusal for jumping off, then if she didn't do the obstacle after the intial refusal it is a DQ.
-
Was it the next obstacle in the sequence? I'm now confused
-
Refusal by the looks? From the rules: "A refusal should be called when the dog fails to make an attempt at an obstacle or when approaching ... c) the Dog Walk, a dog fails to ascend the up ramp on any attempt or comes off the obstacle before reaching the horizontal section. .. e) the Scramble, a dog fails to ascend the up ramp on any attempt or comes off the obstacle before the apex."

Brilliant! I think the trick is to have someone secretly filming it without you knowing OR just keep filming every single one - you are bound to get a clear round eventually and break the curse!
-
Wow look at CK go!! Recovered nicely from his rocky start Looked like a nice course. Well done Valley & Toby What a turnaround!! So true, my Mum was with me at the trial on Saturday and it's funny listening to an outsider's point of view, she said "why don't these people run faster, I notice the dogs with faster people do better than the ones with slow people" Aaahh if only it was that easy
-
WOW That is a brilliant effort! 100% hit rate!! I'm afraid the best we have had was 2/4 My dog is bipolar Do you have any video Wish we had cockers doing agility here
-
Oh poor little shaved Denver! Well done! ETA: What video editor do you use Smisch?
-
Brilliant work, look at Mason go!! :D @ Ptolomy - I agree
