pie replied to tiff-689's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I'm a bit rusty on this but when I went the classes went for an hour, and there was a 7-8pm slot and 8-9pm slot, but don't quote me Hopefully some more knowledgeable people will swing by! -

Hi Tiff Yes they do accept cross breeds, their website is here: http://www.southernriverdogclub.org.au/ it has information about their obedience classes and what to expect They have different levels of classes available. -

Oh no Ptolomy Glad everyone is okay! Have to say I never would've thought people would bother trying to burgle homes in the kennel zone! The coffee table comment reminded me: the other day I was watching Cesar on TV and the people had a Toller and it was morbidly obese, absolutely huge!!! I couldn't believe it, first time I've ever seen a really fat one! (It wasn't the dog they were getting help for, it was one of their other dogs, but I hope Cesar told them to cut it's food down!)

I can't bring myself to buy from COTD anymore, everything I order takes soooo loooong to arrive! I'm far too impatient to wait 3 weeks for a parcel!

With regards to weaving - I used the channel method on my first dog, he weaves quite well and fast now (when he's in the mood ), but it was a long time coming. My younger dog I used 2x2 but honestly not sure if I'd use it again as she seems so focussed on getting it right that she is painfully slow, but that's probably more to do with my criteria than the method.

RosieFT's SFT started doing zoomies at training, she would do a few obstacles and then start doing zoomie laps. She started picking up and putting the dog away after she zoomed (if you zoom, you get put away and don't have any more fun), then bringing her out after a few minutes and trying the exercise again, it made a huge improvement and now she rarely does it. I've also used this tactic on my dog and it worked for her, can't remember the last time she ran off. ETA I know some will say you shouldn't use a crate as a punishment though

Oh and if anyone needs my services for *cough* puppy socialisation I am happy to assist, and even offer an in-home service :D And airport pickups for special customers!

Don't worry, you'll be in good company. I heard a rumour that amypie and Trixie are entering.

Well over our break my Tenterfield Terrier got replaced by one who was crazy (fun crazy though ) I was a bit worried about a DW / SS phobia he had developed at our last trial and training but he seems to have completely forgotten about them and there was no hesitation, phew! He was quite possibly the fastest I have ever seen him! Very fun So much work to do with Trixie, going to have to break the weaving back down, she's focussing sooo hard on getting her steps right it is painfully slow and she is a bit confused about the whole thing. Has anyone had the same problem? I think I need to tighten my criteria to reward speed moreso than accuracy? Going to open the weavers on Thursday and see if I can build up her speed through them, maybe go back to 6 for a while

Come on RS! It's fine once you start running around! Yep 8pm slot

Tonight is my first night of agility training for about 2 months, really looking forward to it! Training was cancelled last week because of rain and I'm having major withsdrawals! Hopefully the dogs share my enthusiasm (I think they will!)

What were the numbers? Mine was the other way around, Parvo had a strong response and Distemper not so much, other dogs were getting similar results in Perth, I was told this was because there wasn't really any distemper around so the dog hadn't mounted a strong response, whereas there is a fair bit of Parvo around. It wasn't weak enough for me to want to revaccinate.
