If his papered name is Jedi then I think you should call him Force - haha :p

I'd probably be inclined to take a different approach and try and shape it with a clicker rather than luring if you can. I'd be marking the stationary position (Have the dog in a sit and step in next to the dog in heel position and click - they learn that's the best position to be in) then shape it to move it so the dog lines up with you instead of you with it, then move forward a step at a time, that's how I did it with Trixie, but we've never trialed obedience, she does decent basic heelwork at home and is very good at lining up in position (exceot for the jumping up on me midway around haha). I hope that all makes sense. I have also heard of using a wooden spoon with peanut butter on it to reward the dog in position. Maybe RubyStar will pop in she has trained a Mini Schnauzer to do lovely heelwork, also Sue & Waldo has a MS as well.

Thanks DD, very interesting. Our UDX is the stuff of nightmares  And you can only enter it after getting your title in UD. They are completely separate classes. Well done again on your awesome year with Elsie Very multi talented.

Congratulations DD! Though can you please explain what that means for the Aussies  ETA: From what I can figure it sounds like halfway between our CDX & UD. How many passes do you need for a title, or do you get UDX if you get a certain score? Well done Kazhak & Krusty! I'd love to see video if you ever have any! Well done on all the brags guys, sounds like everyone is having a great time!

With the 1 hour bike ride - you can fall into the trap of giving your dog too much physical exercise - which means it takes more and more to wear them out - I know because my brother made this mistake with his dog  Mental stimulation / training is far more exhausting than running walking the same amount of time - if you build up your dogs fitness you will have to keep it exercised at that level. This is true of any size or breed of dog really

This is a great page giving you reasons not to get a Toller  Just informing people really. http://www.calibertollers.com/toller/topten.htm Tollers are pretty full on dogs!

Wearing Haltis And Harnesses During Agility Training
pie replied to BlackJaq's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Mine are naked also but I have no problem with flat collars - though prefer them to be naked because I have seen a video of a dog catch a flat collar on a jump upright - harnesses not for me thanks, Haltis, absolutely not and no leads ever around jump uprights - I have seen someone make her dog do a jump on lead and the lead wrapped around the upright and pulled it down on the dog - why would you want to risk a negative association like that? The mind boggles A dog with a lead on a halti could easily get it caught on something and risk a neck injury or negative association - just no for me. For me personally - if the dog isn't at a stage where it can be working off lead and not running off it shouldn't be doing sequences. -
Command To Get Dog To Eat Breakfast/dinner
pie replied to Stealthmatt's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
This is an extreme case and you are bound to get a lot of people here saying Cesar is an idiot. I have always made my dogs sit and wait and they can't touch their dinner until I say "OK" - never had any food guarding issues myself. Most people I know with dogs do it also - good for self control and manners. -
The border collies I know who have been shaved have a kind of curly woolly thick coat afterwards, where as the unclipped ones I know have a silkier coat. With regards to keeping them cool, most double coated breeds I know seem to cope with the heat better than my two who are single short coated - mine have zero insulation against heat (or cold) Your dogs are beautiful Amurryka :)

Subaru Outback - it's AWD and roomy and not too big for the city :) BUT if your dogs get dirty a lot out sledding it may be better to get a ute / dual cab and have a canopy put on it

Yes I'd say they just won't need the space in Byford now that they can process nearly 3 times the amount of animals in the same timeframe.

I think it's an excuse personally - there have been rumours of them closing for years but this is the first I've heard of bushfires being the reason. It's a bit sad - but I suppose 10 days on the east coast with no visitors is better than 30 days here with a few visits in my view.

A co-worker is married to a fireman - he once attended a car crash where a loose dog went flying and decapitated the driver.

In WA we don't get title sashes and mostly get rosettes for trials which are harder to display. So I just keep them in a box in the spare room. Problem is I chucked them all in one box and can't remember which ones are for which dog now Should've written the date and name on the back!

Dr Jean Dodds (canine Thyroid expert) seems to think collars can damage thyroids: http://drjeandoddspethealthresource.tumblr.com/post/41645121585/dog-collars-thyroid

I have small cuz, other cuz, iqueak and dexter the elephant and the dexter has the most protected squeaker with thicker rubber around it (on his feet) it is much harder for the dogs to chew the squeaker up.

Nothing raises a visitor's eyebrows quite like a Kong Safestix lying around the house...

I would humour him and give him soft food - or maybe chicken and rice - until his health improves, so that he is getting nutrients and taking the ABs properly. Then reintroduce the dry.

Welcome Kazhak, your Crestie is gorgeous - I love seing them run agility, would love to see video if you get any :) - here is one of my favourite agility Cresties, not sure if you've seen it, the slow mo is annoying but if you skip to 1:36 it shows the run in normal speed: All the best with your boy

Wow that's awesome! Congratulations DD & Elsie  Don't suppose anyone got it on video Nice trophy!

Really High Spring/summer Pollen Count In Perth.
pie replied to trinabean's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My dog isn't particularly allergic but the last few days I have noticed he has been chewing all his feet and has runny eyes - thought it might be related. I don't get hayfever too bad - but might have to get some telfast by the sounds - to snop the annoying sneezing! We have plane trees all down the road at work - so annoying when they are dropping pollen, it gets into the mailboxes and when I check them it blows straight into my eyes - blergh! -
I have often wondered the same about canned/soft food. The protein levels are half what the dry food is - how is that enough I believe it's because they have to take moisture into account (for example if the food is 50% water then the other 50% is the other ingredients, if you know what I mean) Happy to be corrected though. I've used 4 legs for years - go through about a pack a week with my two, but I only use them for training treats.

Plenty of dogs would kill a cat given the opportunity - and animal aggression is far different to human/child aggression!
