  1. "I like long walks on the beach at sunset..."
  2. Come visit me I have three spare air conditioned rooms going to waste
  3. I notice the new primary school they are building near me has air cons all over it, weaklings, back in my day we only had ceiling fans
  4. Yep - not sure I could live without without AC again. God knows how my Mum managed raising 4 kids in the stinking hot degree plus town we grew up in - ughhhh I go back there now and just about die.
  5. Ugh in our last two rentals we only had a small AC in the lounge, we used to drag our mattress into the lounge room and sleep there for almost all Summer  Both houses were in Kenwick and that place was shocking in Summer, it never ever got any breeze, probably because of its proximity to the hills? I remember when we'd get a few hot days and the bricks would soak it in and when you walked near the house it was like walking near an oven.... yuck yuck yuck Where we are now near Banjup/Jandakot is soooo much better, so breezy and cool, we have evap air con and it works so well, most nights it's so cool outside here we only have to put it on fan. Massive improvement!! Doesn't make much difference to the power and water bills either unlike refrigerated. I guess because it's a new house the insulation would be better too. I can imagine it because I have seen some, and yes they do look funny with a wide body and skinny head! Why would you want to ruin such a lovely elegant shape! (I think so anyway  )
  6. Wow, that's terrible! Yes you're right PMs are limited in what they can ask because of discrimination rules, I've seen many a gleaming perfect-on-paper tenant turn into the tenant from hell, even with every check possible!
  7. We have tough dogs RS  Yeah she has I can barely feel her hip bones!
  8. Hmm nope in fact I just noticed Trixie is too fat - gonna have to cut her food back a bit to get rid of her Christmas spread
  9. you're making me feel mean - I just walked mine down to the park, made them run around for ages, then walked them home, now they are sprawled out next to me but the air con will kick in any second and they'll be back to normal  This is why I couldn't own a braccy breed
  10. Another thing - you will be hard pressed to find two people who will agree 100% on methods etc when it comes to dogs  But I personally think it's important to keep an open mind and learn about why people choose to do what they do, and then you can decide afterwards whether to take it on board or dismiss it ;)
  11. I agree SG but you can also take the damage costs out of the rest of their full bond, and if that isn't enough, take them to court. I think I'd be more willing to rent to someone who already has a dog, than someone who doesn't and then gets a puppy, at least you know the first person will have a good idea of dog behaviour etc
  12. 1: Well it depends on how each method is used really - some people still do like choker chains and they can work if used properly - you can't just put a choker on and expect your dog not to pull like magic. 2: Different foods work for different dogs, my dog doesn't do well with Eagle Pack Holistic, yet does okay on other similar brands. 3: I do feed some raw, there are quite a few ways to do it and you don't necessarily have to give your dogs supplements. I'm not sure it works out cheaper in all cases 4: I don't think crate training is cruel personally, and my dog actually prefers his crate to sleep in even when given the option to sleep on the bed. Also if you show or do dog sports your dog needs to be crate trained ideally, for it's own safety more than anything. Not sure what the issue about withholding water is... I don't know about your dogs but mine don't drink while they sleep! ETA I think you need to do more research on these things before you launch into a rant about them... one person's way isn't necessarily the best for your dog, keep an open mind and be open to adapt things to suit your dog.
  13. What a relief!! So glad he's home!!!!!
  14. WA now has a Pet lease that is signed, and you are required to pay a $260 pet bond. It's still hard to find pet friendly rentals here though. http://www.rspcawa.asn.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1441 If I had a rental property I wouldn't mind renting do someone with dogs, they have to repair any damage at the end anyway, no different to kids and you can't legally decline an application just because the people have kids.
  15. Might go green and gold this time. Yeah don't worry it didn't fall on the floor :D We moved it to a safer table
  16. I have a Tupperware mould from the op shop just for the occasion - wow the photo even has Winnie Blues and an Export Can, how appropriate  It'd be unAustralian not to binge drink on Australia Day. And float in the pool.
  17. Really hope he turns up soon, come on Alvin you little pest!! Show yourself!
  18. I still get a sore bum for days even with a gel seat
  19. Just a side note - you probably already know - public BBQs in nice areas on Australia day (and other special days) quite often get rather busy and have a bit of a queue (I remember an epic fail at Serpentine Falls where half the BBQs ran out of gas too... we went home to cook our food instead ) I'm sure it will be a lovely day for the beach
  20. I think I shall be busy at 9am on Australia Day mixing my punch, ready to get 'Australian' by lunch time
  21. I use a horse product called Hi Shine on my dogs, it has coconut oil in it and I'd imagine you could use pure coconut oil the same way. http://www.hishine.net.au/page5.htm I put about a capful in about 1.5 litres of warm water and tip it over the dog at the end of the bath making sure to get it all over them - I really love it and it keeps their skin and coat well moisturised and they look lovely and shiny (single short coated dogs)
  22. I suppose it's probably not too far from you, it's an epic mission for me
  23. Oh no, really hope he is found safe and sound Clyde
  24. Well there you go I've been searching and can't find any info easily! Found this on the Gingin shire site: Dog exercise areas: Dogs prohibited:
