  1. Kyzer did it until about 5 months, mainly when meeting new people. He doesn't do it at all anymore.
  2. I try to be careful to pick him up with a palm under his chest and a hand under his back legs.
  3. Thanks for the link Paul but I don't even know if we'll be any good at agility yet, let alone invest in a vest like those Maybe when we are pro
  4. I don't know, I just prefer the pocket idea, and I don't want him to think he doesn't have to listen because I don't have my treat bag
  5. Ahhh it's in the Sale section, thanks KKK I think I need more pockets though. And it might be too hot.
  6. There were two litters on the ground at the time, 8+ pups between them. I don't think it is soreness - he doesn't do it every time, just sometimes. Maybe 40% of time (with us). Hasn't been to the vet since desexing (early Sep)
  7. Okay, let me set the scene: Kyzer is a 7.5 month old Tenterfield Terrier. He is a small dog, about 5kgs currently. Over the last month or two we have had issues with him being picked up. I try my very best to treat Kyzer like a dog, he doesn't get carried around, he has his own legs to walk on. Pretty much every day he gets picked up at one stage or another, usually picked up on to my lap for a pat, sometime picked up for a pat while I'm standing. Anyway, the issues we are having is quite often when people including OH & I pick him up, he growls. Once he is up, he is usually okay. When he growls we don't put him down, we continue to hold him until he is quiet, and then we let him jump off if he wants. We quite often have people over every weekend. People are allowed to call him onto their lap for a pat if they want, which he had no problems with, he will be straight up there wanting a pat, but if people put their hands on him and try to move him he growls. He knows a get down command, but sometimes people don't realise this and just pick him up to put him back down on the floor and he gets grumpy, likewise if they are picking him up to put on there lap. Sometimes he gets in such a state that he snarls, usually when there is over six or so people around, I have started crating him as soon as this happens, so that he has a bit of timeout and can feel safe, he never removes himself, he always wants to hang around no matter how grumpy he is. Now Kyzer is VERY vocal, if he is playing with toys he is very noisy and very growly, I have never known him to play with a toy in silence  So I have explained this issue to two obedience instructors, and both gave me very different views: Trainer one, owns BC's, Dalmatians and a Pap: Suggested that I get people, including myself, to go up to Kyzer, and put their hands on him, and under him, lifting his back or front legs off the ground, while feeding him treats. continue this and then start to pick him up and give him treats. Trainer Two, owns a Malamute, used to own GR's: Basically gave me a talking to telling me that no person ever has the right to pick up my dog, why should he get picked up, I should not do anything differently. I get what the second trainer is saying, but I don't really feel that I want to leave this unchecked to develop into something more. I don't want to risk someone, perhaps a child, picking up Kyzer and him biting them. Sure, no one has the right to pick him up but in reality he is a small dog, people will pick him up. Every meal he has to wait and he watches me, not the food, until he gets the okay to eat, I ignore him for 5 minutes or so when I get home, I don't think he has displayed any signs of challenging pack order but I am trying to prevent it happening. So I would just like to hear opinions on this - what am I doing wrong? Let me know if I have missed anything. Sorry for my long long post
  8. I looked at Black Dog but couldn't find any on there?
  9. Erny - I looked at the Leerburg ones but I am simply not willing to pay over $100 for a dog vest LOL Everyone else - thanks for the tips I hadn't thought about a fishing vest, I'll have a look there Problem solvered
  10. Hi all, I have been googling all day for this and can't find anything! I want a vest to wear for when I am training Kyzer, one with a few front pockets. I currently use a jumper with front pockets, which I much prefer over a treat bag, but the weather is warming up and I don't want to be wearing a jumper in summer My agility club sell some but they don't have very good pockets. Does anyone have any idea where I can buy one online? The only sites I could find were US, I'd prefer to buy from Aus. TIA

  12. I know before i managed to get my camera out he was running around and around non stop for about 15 laps, he was getting air and everything :D It was one of the funniest things to see, lucky he had a harness on or he would have had some neck damage LOL

  18. Hi Stacey - I'll be at Agility training tonight - feel free to come and say hi I'll be the girl in puppy class with the smallest dog on the ground ;) It would be GREAT for a DOLer to be in my class :D How old is gypsy now? I've been to the puppy agility classes for a few weeks now and i really recommend them - it's good fun, and good for the puppies to get used to other dogs. It's a highlight of my week (PS: are you coming to the meet this weekend )

    Iko

I'm sorry to hear this SP :p I'm sure she is racing around a lure course at the Bridge as we speak, I'm glad you are holding on to all the happy memories you had with her and hugs to you and your mum
  20. Ditto! I have a 7.1mp camera, i always have it on the highest file size because you can make it smaller but you can't make it bigger You can back photos up to CDs if you have limited space.
  21. Kyzer is DoubleG In The Black I would be happy with any letters after his name, not really fussy about which ones
  22. Kyzer gets bathed every weekend without fail. He sleeps on our bed so i want him to be as clean as possible. I use Aloveen shampoo and then when finished i rub the aloveen conditioner through his coat. I use a shower attachment in the bath and he only takes about half an hour to fully dry so it's very easy. He used to have skin problems, i was using Malaseb shampoo, i switched to Aloveen and no more problems
  23. Kyzer was desexed about 2 weeks ago, i asked them to remove his last remaining baby tooth while he was under, it was the top long pointy one, not familiar with the name sorry! Well I was pretty shocked when i got the bill - $155 for the desexing and $50 to take out the tooth! Fair enough if i had visited the vet just for the tooth, but he was already under general, all they would have had to do is yank it out with a pair of pliers : no stitches required, nothing. what a ridiculous price, if i had realised i would've waited longer for it to fall out, stupidly i didn't think to ask how much it would be.
  24. Deltron, how old do they have to be to run?
