Good old internet giving conflicting advice as usual Could you maybe just try it for a couple of weeks and see if there is an improvement?
-
I saw the picture of the dog on the website, it was SCARY
-
Found this on there website pffft. What a shame, sorry you have to go through this Poodlemum.
-
My crate is a KraMar brand, it came with a free divider. I got mine from City Farmers though, not sure where you could get them online?
-
There was a BC in my agility class just as you described Even if he had to walk somewhere the owner would get a look of "do we have to? I can't really be bothered moving"
-
Kyzer has always been lean (especially in comparison to his rellies, I saw some of his litter mates recently and they were little barrels on legs ) so obviously he self regulates  There are some very FAT little terriers out there and he obviously doesn't want to be one
-
I was doing this too, halved Kyzer's meals and now he has appetite again  He is not underweight, just perfect. I was just giving him too much food poor little bugger

Going Nuts When Seeing Other Dogs On Walks
pie replied to samoyedman's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I'm interested Just on this subject can anyone give tips on how to give the dog self control? My dog tends to get super excited and jump up on dog with his paws as well  -
Old Girl Has Just "wet" On The Couch

It's not from her anal glands is it? -
Hmmm, okay then. Thanks BC. I have seen one in real life it looked a bit scary I might give it a go. Never considered it as I though it was for undercoat.
-
I had never considered a furminator because I thought they were designed to get undercoat out on double coated breeds? Do they definitely work on single coated short haired breeds? I don't think Kyzer would have 1/4 shopping bag full of hair on his entire boddy
-
How long would it be between each 'incident'? Kyzer took months to toilet train probably 12 - 16 weeks after we got him. We had to keep it consistent, eventually it sank in. It can be frustrating, I sympathise
-
Sounds good, I wanted it becaise of the focus and also dealing with nervous dogs.
-
Kyzer is short haired and sheds a lot, I use a rubber sort of brush, it grips on to the hairs and pulls them out: A bit like this but mine doesn't have a handle : http://www.dogtoys.com/groomingbrush1.html a Zoom Groom would probably do the trick too.

At our club we start very early, 10 or 12 weeks, but they don't go on any high equipment and the jumps are just walk overs. Plus they don't weave until the next class up (12 months & over) They focus more time on things like recall, sits, drops, stays, tunnels, flatwork and those sort of things. There's a baby a-frame, and a baby see saw, both usually about a foot off the ground.

Thanks Erny, that helped a lot

FTPO, I think I have the same problem as you. As I read that quote it does sound like Kyzer is entering a fear period as well. On walks he has been freezing up at the strangest things, cars, box trailers on lawns, sprinklers (turned off) all of these things he has seen before and had no issues with Also I call and call for him to come to me (at home) and he just sits down and looks at me. It is very annoying . (Sorry for the thread hijack newfnewf :p)
-
Kyzer does that dance you talk about, he is quite nervous when meeting people. I tell people not to bend over him to pat him as it can scare him a bit. Crouch down instead. I'm interested to hear responses to this thread.
-
Erny, if the dog won't obey the command, ie 'sit', what do you do? Do you physically put them into a sit or ignore them or what? Would appreciate your answer
-
I am so getting the at the moment also newfnewf Often any command I give, sit, drop etc, is met with a look like "you wish lady" Hurry up and grow out of it already :p

I've asked for "Control Unleashed" for Christmas as well as a few others, "Ruff Love" by Susan Garrett can't remember the rest "The beginners guide to dog agility" by Laurie Leach is in the mail on it's way to me now.
-
I don't know, I'm still looking for an answer myself
-
My guess is it is the cats. We have them here they drive the dog crazy at night and sometimes they sneak in the dog door Which results in a lot of barking and chasing and some angry sleepy humans.
-
I was looking at that the other day - pretty serious setup
