  1. Your poor boy, it must be really painful for him This exact thing happened to my dog, a flap of skin came off and it looked just like your picture except it was still attached on one side, but we never took him to the vet as he wasn't limping or licking it and was walking as normal. after a couple of weeks you couldn't even tell it had happened. It only happened to one paw though, I actually thought at the time it may have been burn related as it was as if the skin was already loose, and just peeled off, it reminded me of a blister, but with no fluid. Also because he had been around a campfire at the time if it happening. I'm very interested to see the replies.
  2. I feel your pain, Kyzer is on to his 4th ball chasing related injury, he cuts his paws and the little paw pad high up on the leg - not sure what it's called I tell OH and the others not to throw balls on to the gravel for this reason, but it still happens.
  3. So sorry to hear this, what a brave boy he was to protect his family Thinking of you Veanna
  4. I use the rubbery brush (outside ) and it loosens the hairs, and I brush them off with my hand. Jeds suggestion of a soft bristle brush would probably work well actually, I must try that.
  5. I have a Tenterfield Terrier which has a short smooth single coat, I imagine it's be similar to a smooth FT? I brush him about twice a week which keeps the shedding down. The pin type brushes don't work on him, the ones that do work have rubber bits, much like a Kong zoom groom. I have a handled brush at the moment which has rubber 'cones' on it and it is very effective. They grip the dead hairs and remove them easily. This is the sort of thing I mean:

  9. Kyzer's destroyed a fair few toilet rolls as a youngster and lately he has killed one or two tissues, I have got a cold currently and when I blow my nose he watches with fascination My old girl went crazy for tissues! She would forever be trying to steal them!
  10. Crest fallen, the Agility Club of WA do a puppy class on Tuesday nights at the K9 centre in Southern River. It is good fun for puppies and they have small pieces of equipment and also teach you some good information. This is their website: http://www.agilityclubwa.com/
  11. Aww he's grown so much Deltron! I'm glad he is okay for now and fingers crossed for a speedy recovery!
  12. I cannot believe it has been 12 months already Thinking of you Cassie.
  13. Oh I walked past these the other day but didn't look at them because I assumed they'd be cooked Hmmmm, might have to try them out....
  14. Oh no, what terrible news. Deltron I have absolutely everything crossed for a full recovery for Charlie.
  15. Yep, that's what I do too. I did post this in the thread in general, but I take my pups out and about from the day they are brought home. Cherry was kept in until she was 16 weeks and reacts badly to new situations, Micha and Daisy were taken out from eight weeks and they are confident and outgoing wherever we go. I wouldn't take any pup of mine to a dog park regardless of their vaccs, and I would probably avoid the beach, but I did take them too shops, markets, various new places etc and let them be pat by strangers. I fully intend to do the same thing with my next pup, being a breed prone to nervousness, I am willing to take a calculated risk for socialisation benefits. My current dog missed out on it as I waited for his final shots, and if I could turn back time I would've had him out and about from the day I got him home. I believe it would have helped a lot of his anxiety / nervousness issues.
  16. When I first took Kyzer for a swim in a doggy pool he swam as you described, front paws only with a lot of splashing we put a life jacket on him and after a few laps he got the hang of it and can now swim fine - he just had to be taught that it's more efective to use all 4 paws under the water .

  23. He is just the most beautiful puppy ever. Congrats Erny
  24. Yep second the Trade suggestion. When Kyzer was little and would steal things I would swap him a treat for whatever he had and say "drop it", eventually faded the treats and now I say "drop it" and he will spit whatever he has out pronto. He just grew out of taking things, I guess the novelty wore off
