i want to get sophie into being a therapy dog. but imagine she'll have to pass a temperment test. where do they do it in QLD?

okay, so busters DA outside the yard. thing is, once a dog comes inside the yard, he's okay with them. maybe slightly standoffish at frst but otherwise fine. outside the yard he is so different. he is constantly very serious (stress?) but he LOVES going out for walks. i was outside with him then and he could see the dog next door through slits in the fence, he just sat and started, didn't snarl or anuything, slight bristles up at first but i said his name and they went down. he didn't get close to the dog, he just wanted to look, 15 monutes after it walked away he kept starting through the fence. he had another dog taht he made relaly good friends with through the fence. so i'm thinking... security issue? could he feel really insecure and stressed outside and thats why he'a agro, a kind of "i'll get you befor you get me" thing. he's had probably 10 other dogs introduced to him inside the yard before and not one issue. but he's so different outside. on leash he snarls and lunges etc. but he's met some dogs offleash and he does a very dominant stance but no bristles or snarling. whatya reckon? any other explanations? i was thinking of maybe getting him to meet different dogs, in our house, on our driveway, then in our street and getting further from our house. thing is, i don't know that many people. lol

i was thinking about getting one for buster because i can get him heaps more excercise. only, my bike broke the other day and i duno what i'd do if he saw a dog. get off and walk i suppose. i found them a whikle ago here http://www.callicoma.com.au/WalkyDog.htm $71 + postage

a coupel of times sophie grabbed a dog through the fence (i really don't blame her, its had attacked her so many times and left skin off all her side before she finally went at it) i acted like an idiot, i was copmpletley hysercal and in tears, she just wouldn't let go, no sound at all. its owners on one side of the fence, us on our side... insane. we just had to wait it out really, she ended up getting a fair few whacks up the side of her head. eventually the neighbours fixed the fence but not before their dog pissed sophie off enough to get her to grab her again, some guy ran up and beat her over the head with a pipe :D: lucky the neighbours called us and told us, she was in the vet for 2 days on drips. a dog fight is relativley easy to break up if one of the dogs hasn't got a hold yet, when they snapping and biting at each other you can drag them away, its once one gets a hold its just doing whatever you can to stop the dog holding on. i'd say LOTS of socialisation would be important so your dog doesn't become fearful/aggressive at dogs in maturity

Free Behavioural Sessions For Your Dog At K9 Force!
B-Q replied to Steve K9Pro's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
i wish i was closer! i really gotta find a trainer in my area -
harry got a bit weird the other night. mum yelled to come help she thought he mightve got a toad. we put him in the bath and washed his mouth out. don't think it was a toad though. he just gets foamy sometimes. lol
-
and i've always toyed with the idea of teaching him to go get his leash. when i ask him to. biggest thig with him is though. he's not relaly into going getting stuff and bringint hem back.
-
wow. i have a lot mor ideas on stuff i can teach buster now. i'm going over his basics atm but adding distance. working on getting him to sit stay outside the yard in a weird environment while i walk 50metres up the road and around a corner before i can him. he thinks he's relaly sneaking walking along when i'm not looking. lol plus i want him reliable in sitting and staying and dropping from a distance. i'm teaching him rollever atm to. and "touch it" whihc is easy because i've already taught him to "hi 5" meaning touch my hand wherever it is. so i just put it over something then i slowly moved it away and changed the word and pointed to it. he pickedit up relay fast. always been tempted to teach him to get stuff from the fridge. and i started teaching him to close doors but he slams them. lol

you can find them suring the day. but their usually hiding out. they are around more at night

i used to live in katherine. toads EVERYWHERE. just yuck. our dog have never had an incident. buster grabbed some frogs before he found a toad and he very quickly learned that he was not allowe to touch them ever. when mac was a puppy, buster would let her go and talk to the frogs. just follow them and sniff them. but if she saw a toad and started heading for it. he would intervene and stop her from going near it by pushing her back. i duno how he knew the differemce. i really find them yuck. i don't agree wiht killing them inhumanley but they reckon now if you want to kill them humanly you have to rub hamaroid ointment on their back then freeze them. i'm afraid i'm not going that far. we just used to freeze them. once i found a dead one crushed up in the luvers. and a coupl e of times they got into my room. ehhh i go home for holidays in a coupl eof months ;)

she lives in NSW and i don't see her very often. plus, she's having a bit of a mid life crisis i think atm. so i dunno. i think i'll look for a good salon sounds promising. lol

Have Judges Become Too Pedantic?
B-Q replied to Tapferhund's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
would other judges be able to bring it up? i know afer a while buster would have to readjust his sit position. he doesn't even sit on his feet, he sits righ on his bum... i agree wiht that dogs should be dogs. i mean cummon. they don't know theirgonna get disqualified for just getting more comfy or getting bored. its a lot to ask what the judges want i think -
i'd be looking at grooming as a career. i'm willing to put in the effort because i know it pays to be good at what you do. i've seen my mum do that. she does really well in her field. she is really well respected because she's good at what she does. so its not like i just think it would be fun to shave dogs all day. lol but my auntie did it for a long time to. and i loved wathing her. i'd sweep the floor for her and stuff. and i'm not really hugley interested in owning dogs that have huge grooming requirements, poodles, schnauzers. or like anything for show. so yeah, it would be a career move.

i was readin up on the dog laws and i heard their not relaly dog friendly. but mainly just tough laws and stuff. what is it that makes them so not dog friendly? we've already decided probably noosa because it just seems nicer
-
on the cunshine coast. up in the hinterland of the coloundra shire atm but looknig at moving to the noosa or maroochy shire in the next few weeks. i'll be close to the coast so hopefully close to some decent salons

Flyball Dogs - Here Is The Team That Beat The Record
B-Q replied to whatevah's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
i think i''ll be able to train him to ignore other dogs, but i don't know if he'll be comfortable in an environment like a flyball tournament anyway. he's not so agressive offleash. just dominant. i see a huge reason to train him in flyball even if he can never compete. 1) increases our communication 2) teaches ME how to train a dog in flyball 3)provides him with some fun i'm doing agility at home with him now and putting a huge amount of effort into his "focus" command and he's getting better at it alreadyy. but i dunno if he'll ever be able to compete in flyball tournaments. but oh well, there are other things he can do, agility (once he gets his focus going ) tracking, maybe lure coursing, obediance. its all good.
