I bought Earthlings about a year ago and watch it whenever I need some motivation or a reminder for why I do the things I do. I don't have a problem with meat or meat consumption in general, I just hate the system its created where we think we can have whatever we want and don't have to think about what has to happen for us to get it. Thats why I don't eat it. I think I knew about most of the stuff on the video already but the stuff about Indian leather was a shock, I avoid it like the plague now. I can understand using the entire animal but what they go through is uncomprehensible. I don't think the entire world will go vegetarian but I think we need to be empowered as a society by having the knowledge that THIS IS HAPPENING. Then maybe governments will look at making sure there is a better quality of life/death even if it means meat costs more. I just can't understand how people can violate the most basic animal welfare laws because they are food animals. Does not compute.

LOL Buster has found a new game when doing zoomies, just as he runs past me he'll jump and bosy slam his side into my knee's, almost sends me flying everytime.

My mum and my stepdad went out one Saturday morning to do some grocery shopping. When they got home my stepdad ran in and said "go see what your mum has!" Outside in her arms was a little 8-10 week old cattle dog cross puppy, covered in fleas and ticks, someone had dumped him in the car park in the middle of town and he was screaming to be let into a shop. I still remember my first thought being "Thats gonna be my dog" He was the family dog for about 18 months before mum relised that he and I were obvisouly very bonded and she officially handed him over as all mine. He changed my entire life, who would've guessed the little skinny Northern Territory camp dog puppy picked up in a Katherine car park would end up sleeping on someones bed everynight and being spoiled rotten. Did I mention he's tolerant. And probably my favourite head shot of him so far. Taken a couple of weeks ago. This boy is my heart, I need him so much and I love him more everyday.

Breed Suggestions For A Child/teenage Owner
B-Q replied to Jodi1981's topic in General Dog Discussion
So many breeds could fit. We found Buster when I was 13, he was meant to be a "family dog" but he and I bonded so strongly so fast mum handed him over to me. I wouldn't have it any other way, I'm 20 now and he's completly changed my life. I am taking him when I move out, we don't manage well being seperated and although I love having him around, I will admit there are some limitations to actually being responsible for something else while your young. I know its going to be harder jsut to find a place to live with a dog. I love the idea of having him till I'm 30 though, he's been with me through so much, he's my centre and he grounds me. When I was younger mum paid for all his essentials, as I've got older I've taken on more of his costs. I now pay for most of his food, all his vet bills, tick and flea prevention, toys etc etc. -
Keeping Working Breeds Or Big Dogs In Small Spaces
B-Q replied to dee lee's topic in General Dog Discussion
I had Buster in a house without a fenced yard for 2 months. He had a LOT more energy to burn from being cooped up more often and being an only dog but with a bit more effort he was fine. -
A pup from a registered breeder. I will rescuea adults in future but I've never had a pupp of my very own and I want the experience of starting a dog "right"

About every 2 weeks or more often, now that we're out with the horses and Buster has discovered just how great it is to roll in fresh horse poo I'm a little more careful about keeping him clean as he sleeps in my bed.

A big reason I don't want kids is because I don't want to have to put anything before my animals. I wouldn't evacuate without my dog, he wouldn't leave me behind.

This is Sophie, she turns 13 mid this year. Doing very well for her age. I'll take some photo's of her tomorrow ambling around in the paddock, she loves it out there.

4 dogs. rural. -
We can take anything off any of our 4 and there are no issues. If its something they REALLY want they might pick it up and move away but thats rare anyway.

Buster knows Elliot is "his" cat and he's great with him but as far as he's concerned everything else is fair game. Thankfully our vet doesn't have a resident cat but they do have a resident 3 legged staffy. Buster's DA can make it a pain but it doesn't bother me to much. The dog generally stays behind the desk and it doesn't even give Buster a second glance no matter what Busters behaviour is like.

I like vets to respect my decisions regarding my animals. We changed one vet because they wouldn't stop pushing at us to get our old girl desexed and wanted to do all sorts of surgery on Harry's hips right away. We found a fantastic vet that wanted to do more natural, long term treatments for Harry and we did eventually get Sophie desexed when we had to put her under for something else. We had a couple of Pyo scares and wanted to be safe than sorry. I like to see the same vet and I really appreciate it if they remember our other animals/history somewhat. I like surgeries that recognise Buster's DA and are happy to assist me to get him in/out if there are other dogs around. Big waiting rooms where I can't get cornered are a plus. Nurses that arn't all high and mighty, I've met too many of them. I can't knock our current vet really, when Harry and Sophie attacked Buster and my little sister was home alone, she called them and they came and picked him up and took him in immediatly. By the time I ran in the door at the vets I must have looked pretty ragged and stressed and the nurse pointed me straight in the direction to go see him without me even asking.

Busters only real issue is his DA, I want to work on it with myself and a trainer. I don't think I bit off more than I can chew with his breed/mix, I just think he had a rough start and had I known then what I know now the DA would have probably been nipped in the bud before it became such an issue. Live and learn. He jumps up on me everytime he greets me but I like it and he will stay down if I ask. He very occasionally jumps on strangers if they get him overexcited but its not what I'd call a problem, they pretty much have to be asking for it.

Buster is actually fantastic to run with. I don't take him anymore though because if I run into another dog its a pain because he's so DA and there are loose dogs the way I jog but mostly its because he has HD in his right leg and running along the road would only aggrevate it. I either walk him into town or take him out for a run aroudn the paddocks instead and then when I go running I can turn up my music and not have to be keeping an eye out for any other dogs.
-
He's an awesome dog, great photo's.
-
I ended up with a Canon EOS 450D. I think he saw a rabbit or a dog across the road in that photo. Good time for him to decide to listen when I tell him to stay put. lol
-
Heres my first go, only had a DSLR for a week so I've got a lot to learn. Must have taken 150 photo's today lol. but I like this one of Buster.
-
It came up first in the manual. Not that I'm doing much once I'm in there, its just seems to throw better auto pics than the basic controls. lol
-
I ended up with a Canon EOS 450D. Very happy with it Heres a couple from just toying around with it the first day in the P setting. Yes I'm reading the manual. lol. I'm so clueless as to what I'm doing but I want to get my money's worth out of it.

Got my canon today. Just have to work out how the hell to use it now.

Keeping Working Breeds Or Big Dogs In Small Spaces
B-Q replied to dee lee's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think it all depends on how much time your willing to put in. I have a kelpie mix, he's not overly active but since moving out and not having him living wiht any other dogs, plus the yard isn't properly fenced so he's indoors mostly. We get out for atleast an hour a day plus do training everyday and I spend a lot of my spare time with and I think he does fine. He gets zoomies a bit but when he does we just grab a toy and go out and play hard for 10-15 minutes till he's worn out. I want a working BC as my next dog, I'd rather see one in a apartment with someone willing to put in the time then in a home with a big backyard and a family that doesn't want to put in the effort. Also a lot of smaller breeds have much higher energy needs then some of the larger breeds, I'm thinking more of the Terrier breeds but most small dogs are very active while a lot of the time, the larger breeds are much lazier and happier to lie around. -
They called to confirm and everything. So excited now. I do need to buy a crd though, they only one they had that suited was 16gb and $160, I only want something probably about 4GB but now I can't remember what type he said, can someone tell me?
