Steve - I for one am still quite skeptical about what the council is up to. Oh yes, I do want to beleive that they genuinely care about us.....but I have lived in this area for a long time and it is very hard to feel the love with the new MBRC when I can remember the past and the treatment that was given to dog owners is still right there in my head. When the councils first amalgamated the first thing they did was put the dog registrations up and remove the discount that CCCQ members and the greyhound owners previously got. So that was just the most recent thing that got us all off side. Dogs Qld have gone in to councils in regards to "their" members and what we can get. They haven't gone in to bat for the pet person who wants to keep an entire dog, or the farmers, or whomever else - that is up to them. However, what it has done for us in the MBRC - If you are a "MBRC breeder" then it costs you $130 to apply, then its $25 a year after that to maintain the permit. Dog rego for entire dogs drops then from $80 down to $20 per dog - entire or desexed. Entire dog $80 Entire dogs for CCCQ members (who are not breeders)/pensioners/obedience trained etc - $60 Desexed dogs $25 or for CCCQ/pensioners/obedience trained dogs = $20. That is a big saving - 4 entire dogs previously $320 - now $240 with CCCQ membership or with breeders permit $80. Exemptions from registration fees • Assistance dogs (including guidedogs) • Government entity dogs (service dogs) • Bonafide working dogs on rural land Please contact customer service for further details regarding these exemptions Now without going back through the topic - someone said that some law says that the local council cannot tell you how many animals you can have or what you want to do with your animals etc...... now if this is in fact true - why then has this never been challenged by anyone ????

Why not talk to the breeder you like and explain to them. We sell all our pups on LR - Main is only by negotiation. If you want to show or breed etc then the pup could be put into joint names and once health testing is done and commitment to showing etc then dog can be transferred over to you completely.

The animal rights folks, eg. PETA, dont want anyone to breed animals full stop or have them as pets - so I have no time for them at all. And the BBC documentary has already made a very strong attempt at the whole purebred dog world etc. Someone needs to show the other side of puppy farms and health issues with designer dogs and crossbred dogs. Anyway......anything can happen - we all know that. But you have 2 choices in this matter - you conform or you don't - thats it. If you don't and you breed and sell puppies, then you will be fined. Working farm dogs are a little bit different in that those dogs are working, bred for a purpose etc....but they still need to find out how they fit in to the new breeding laws just like everyone else. But I dont support puppy farmers and unregistered breeders and I wouldn't offer my aid and support to help them keep doing what they are doing, so I wouldnt expect them coming to battle for me. We share different ethics / morals and ideals on how things should be done.

Firstly just to clarify - at the meeting they did mention dogs on other registeries and not ANKC registered dogs - but please remember that this meeting was for ANKC registered dogs, so we wanted to know how it would affect us registered breeders. Apparently they are going to have another meeting like that for ppl that belong to other societies/clubs etc - like cats, budgies, working dogs I guess. Maybe ring them up and ask them yourself. Well.....its the same as back in the olden days of Caboolture Shire Council when you were allowed one dog on a house block. You applied for a permit for a 2nd dog and they said yes or no. NO amount of kicking and screaming cos the neighbour has 2 dogs made a jack of difference. So where is the equality in that ? Thats how it was. And quite honestly I'd rather not go down to my local shopping centre and see notes up on the community board for litter after litter of crossbred dogs. I'd like to see people take responsibility for desexing their pets and not letting them breed with the dog down the road. They shouldnt be doing it if they dont know what they are doing. Recently (long story) but my daughter helped deliver some pups for some ppl that had no idea at all (not the dogs fault). They assumed the same breed dog they also owned was the father, but were shocked when I said the small fluffy thing (that was entire) could of been the father. They had no idea at all. The best part about the whole process was they got an eye opening look about what breeding was about and at least have decided to desex - but the problem is are these the sorts of people that we want breeding pups anyway ?? (dont get me wrong, lovely ppl, but clearly not a clue)

A breeder is someone who is either a registered breeder with Dogs Qld or in the case of cats - some sort of cat society (doesnt apply to me so didnt listen) and I assume with cows etc the same sort of thing. I beleive that just "anyone" can't get a breeders permit - you must be a registered breeder. How else will we ever stop the backyarders or people that breed fido to suzy cos they want pups, if they let just anyone get a permit? Yes they inspect your property and there are a number of rules etc in regards to waste disposal, storage of food, fencing, and care of the animals. You can still have entire dogs and not have a breeders permit. If you are a member of Dogs Qld ie. ppl that show and don't breed, you pay $60 a year dog rego for an entire dog. If you are not a member, but wish to have an entire dog on your property, then your dog rego will be $80 a year. There are restrictions on the number of dogs you can have. Obviously if you are on a house block they probably wouldnt give you a permit for 10 large dogs. They take in to consideration what the council deems is suitable for your block, your situation, if there have been any complaints from neighbours etc etc. I beleive working farm dogs - entire or desexed would still have to be registered with the council. Entire is $80 and desexed is $25 I think. Hope that helps.

I also wanted to add......mention was also said at the meeting about new Council Laws coming in to affect in October. Steve, I do follow your thought process on that one - I just hope that it doesn't counter act the hard work Mark has put in, and the trust that breeders have or are going to put back in to the Council being fairer to the breeders in the area. However, I'm with Hogz though in that I also want to do the right thing.

Is it possible he has swallowed a toy ?? This happened to one of mine earlier this year. She swallowed a rope toy that caused a blockage. She went off her food, started vomiting etc....rushed to vets....they put her on antibiotics (long story, but wasnt happy)....... after 2nd trip to vet within the hour she was trembling and having mild fits, so I then rushed her straight to the AH vets. They worked all night to stabilise her as body organs were failing..... decided they had to go in.... A heck of a lot of money later - but rope toy was removed and my girl is better - and she is not allowed any toys now.

Barbara is no longer involved with the breed as like a lot of the older breeders, there becomes a time when you just cannot do it anymore.

Basically the only reason they have only 40 breeders registered is because I think you will find many breeders are still very skeptical of the whole idea and have not submitted their forms. Others I know have been waiting ages for theirs to be approved and ring council and each person has a different reply and some have no idea at all - so that is not installing much confidence among breeders. For more years than I care to remember, the Caboolture Shire Council have been very unfriendly towards dog-people. Now they all want us to "trust" them, that they want to work with us, etc etc.....past behaviour is very hard to put out of your mind and as much as I'd like to trust them..... it is very hard. There was a really good turnout last night - lots of questions asked and answered. One of the main things was that unless you are a registered breeder on their system, then you cannot breed a litter of puppies/cats/cows etc and they will be coming down hard on people that advertise without their MBRC breeders number. They advise to include the number on your webpages as well as they will be checking these things as well. I have already heard on the grapevine that they are posing as puppy ppl to come out and inspect your place and then fining ppl that do not comply etc. They also said they have removed the "designer breeds" of cavoodle, spoodle, labradoodle etc from their database and those dogs will now be registered as cavalier cross etc....so that is one good thing. The good outcome is that for breeders - your dog registration fees per year will drop....yahhh !! So that is a positive. You can still own a show dog and not breed and get a CCCQ discount on your rego.....which would be fine if you have one show dog. If you have several though, you may need to look at a breeders permit to bring your dog rego down. However - bare in mind that you have to be a registered breeder with Dogs Qld first - so you would have to take in to consideration the costs involved with that as well and maintaining that year after year, so that you can still have a breeders permit with council. For all intents, I think having breeders permits is a good idea. As long as they dont go all hitler police on the proper breeders whilst the puppy farms and backyarders still get away with doing what they are doing, which is the wrong thing.

Training was cancelled last night due to the wet weather. When you join up we'll get an email address from you, and we are slowly getting sorted so that we email everyone to let them know if wet weather has called training off. (still a few teething problems, but getting there). All you need to bring is your dog and the lead you want to use....and poop bags. After training we all stand around and have a chat. There is free tea and coffee available (or you can buy a cold drink if you want). Hope to see you next week.

Show training is now at our new grounds. Still Wednesday nights at 7 pm. New grounds address is - Elimbah Sportsground, Rose Creek Road, Elimbah (its only a few minutes up the road from the Caboolture show grounds). And yes you can join up on the night. $5 for a single and $3 for training. We have had a few new members lately - so come along and have some fun !!!

She should of been at my house last night.......cuddle time for a litter of labrador puppies. Now I have the nicest set of teeth marks in the side of my neck, on my cheek, my arms, and whilst one was biting my toes another one of the little monsters snuck up behind me whilst I was sitting for cuddle time and started pulling my hair. Pup was just out of reach of my hand too and when I finally did manage to remove pup, also came out a chunk of my hair. *ouch* They are just at that really naughty stage......you know......the stage that can last 3 years I really dont recommend your friend getting a lab puppy "at this stage" ....they really can be too boisterous for little kids and a lab puppy does not stay looking like the cute little kleenex puppy for longer than a few weeks.

Yep had that happen to a pup I sold.....I was shocked and didnt think they'd be able to register the pups. But they did as the pups were born after the bitch turned 12 months old.

Have had this before in bitches and it fixed itself as they matured. Another thing was after bath or swim time, we made sure that we dried under the fold of skin as well. Although being told they were more prone to UTI's etc....none of the ones I saw ever did.

wow....a week old already. I cant wait to see them.

Plus we also went to the Aussie Shepherd speciality on Saturday as well and my daughter handled a dog for someone else and got Minor in Show.....so we had a really good weekend of showing. Lets just hope it continues - thanks to the judges for our boys fantastic results :D Heres another picky.

Well I'm so excited for our homebred chocolate Labrador boy "Moose" - He has only just turned 6 1/2 months of age and has been going quite well in the ring. Show Brags so far - First show in minor puppy - Open show - BOB - beating his auntie and Champ show he got Dog Challenge and his first points. Then last weekend - Friday he got an 11 point BOB and Minor In Group. Sunday he was awarded Reserve Dog Challenge, against some very nice older dogs, and Minor in Group again - under International Judges. Monday - and another Minor In Group - also under International Judges. (and as it was my birthday on Monday - his results for the weekend were just the best birthday present) :D :D Here is a photo of him with one of the judges...unfortunately the photo was a bit dark

I think I'll to stop popping in for daily updates. I'd really love to stay awhile here with everyone who is waiting, but unfortunately have to get back to work..... and with all this food in the waiting room, they'll have to roll me out the door. However, I did stop long enough to enjoy a nice cup of hot chocolate and a double choc/choc chip muffin, and have a quick read. Will be thinking of you Jed and glad to hear you are starting to feel better. :D
