  1. As per vet's recommendation we are now giving Jaeger both Interceptor (for heartworm) and Drontal (intestinal worm) monthly (he's under 6 months of age) But I just read this: Is it necessary to be doubling up? Or can I just give him Interceptor alone once a month?
  2. The first few times we gave our puppy a bath we did it in the laundry tub and it was a mess.. water splashed everywhere, him trying to escape, etc. So now my husband baths him in the shower and it's soo much easier since you can keep them contained
  3. brisket bones have been giving my pup the runs. I remember my vet mentioning something about some dogs being intolerant to certain proteins? I think I will try chicken frames next
  4. My weimaraner is 4.5 months and started losing his baby teeth at 4 months. All his front teeth have now been replaced with adult teeth (which are much less sharp than his baby ones- thank god!) and his back teeth are just starting to come through before and after pics: (don't fret, he's upside down in the second pic )
  5. Jaeger has his nails dremeled.. he doesn't seem to mind it, especially if it's done while he's half asleep
  6. She's on Proplan but I'm having trouble finding specific information about its ingredients. She also gets the meat loaf type stuff which they sell in the refrigerated section of the supermarket she's a little on the round side which is one of the reasons I am considering changing foods (will be exercising her too of course)
  7. I've been doing some reading and have narrowed it down to these three: Advance Senior Dog Royal Canin Medium Mature Eagle Pack Select Senior Care Formula Am interested to hear your thoughts on what would be the best choice
  8. We starved him today and gave him a cup of kibble for dinner. His poos are back to normal... except he's been farting . Such a mystery! monsterpup- I'll know it's the Bonnie if he continues to have any more tummy upsets this week. Already got Royal Canin lined up next so will ease him onto that when he gets closer to finishing the bag of Bonnie malisa1- sorry to hear your puppy had a bad reaction to the vaccination it's not nice seeing them unwell. thanks for the diet advice but i'm cautious about introducing new foods at this stage because I know he does have a sensitive tummy and I want to isolate what food/s are not good for him.
  9. Hi HogwartzBoxers. He has been wormed and everything else is up to date also (vaccinations, flea treatment, heartworm) We are thinking of just putting him on a kibble-only diet for a week to see if it's any of the other foods that we've been giving him that's causing the problem
  10. He's only had 2 small brisket bones this week and that was Monday and Tuesday
  11. And again... after a week of regular poos, it's back to diarrhea Friday once again. I can't believe it's the 3rd Friday in a row this has happened. Fed him the exact same thing every day of the week, no issues at all. It wasnt bloody this time (only bloody the first Friday), but the fact that he has diarrhea for an unknown reason does worry me. And I cant understand why Friday? At first I thought maybe the mince (human grade turkey mince) had gone bad, but he only had very little on Friday morning (we ran out), and even so.. the expiration date wasn't until till later. Also I smell it every time before I give it to him and if it smells at all strange, I don't give it to him. Other things he's had with his kibble this week are pumpkin and grated carrot- he's fine with both of these. He gets dog biscuits and liver as treats every now and then, which he's okay with too.
  12. His tummy is back to normal ;) Saw the vet on Saturday and he says it's nothing big to worry about. Most likely due to his sensitive tummy. He says that since some dogs are intolerant to certain proteins, when I introduce new foods I should do it one at a time so incase there is an intolerance I can isolate which food is causing it. thanks again to everyone for their helpful advice
  13. You guys are great, thank you for all the responses poodlefan- Jaeger is finishing up at daycare today so I hope that reduces his chances of picking up bugs from other dogs. I have a general idea about what diet I want to gradually switch him over to (Eaglepack + BARF) but still have lots of reading to do on BARF. Thanks for the suggestion of a food diary, i will definitely be starting one monsterpup- I started giving Jaeger pumpkin this week which helped with his poos a lot. He's booked in to the vet tomorrow morning so I'll definitely have a chat to him about his tummy issues. (luckily the blood was only a one-off thing and hasnt reoccured) Wei's Mum welcome to the forum sorry to hear Chloe had an autoimmune reaction to her 3rd vaccinations. Which one did the vet give her? Our breeder advised us to only give him a C4 at most but for his 2nd vaccinations we went ahead and gave him a C7 as per the vet's recommendations (he assured us that autoimmune reactions were very rare).. luckily he was fine but after hearing your story I'm a little concerned
  14. After a week of normal, healthy poos, he had runny diarrhea again last night and this morning. I don't know what I am doing wrong  His first one was last night (well, early morning) at about 4am. light brown diarrhea, not too runny. A fair amount This morning on his walk he stopped twice, the first time was very runny and light bownish, the second time it was almost clear. Very little amount Then when he got home he did it twice again, runny brownish and clearish.. and again there was very little. I gave him a chicken neck last night from the batch I bought on Monday.. could it have gone off and the diarrhea be caused by food poisoning? He was meant to be due for his shots and meds (flea, heartworm, worming) last Saturday but we had to delay it a week because of his last bout of upset stomach.. now I don't know if this will delay it even further..
  15. Thank you for the suggestions everyone! We found a lovely butcher at a shopping center nearby who has a great selection (bags of chicken frames, brisket bones, chicken necks, marrow bones, etc). We have bought a bag of brisket bones for him and will try more stuff in the future. Just another quick question, should I give them to him frozen? or let it 'defrost' a little? don't want the cold to give him sensitive teeth
  16. Have you taken your pup to the vet for an exam yet?
  17. I'm no expert but I believe vaccinations are due again at 12 and 16 weeks. Then yearly(?) afterwards..?
  18. Yes, it's basic obedience training I am after and in the email they sent me yesterday, they keep pushing for us to book an in-home consult. He makes some good points there about the dog being relaxed and settled in it's own environment.. but other obedience classes I have looked into have not suggested the need for a private consult, so I'm not sure why this place is so strongly recommending them. Also, if you don't have a private consult prior to starting group classes, they charge you an extra $100 for the course. Kind of ridiculous
  19. back to Clear, I just received a (lengthy) email from the guy about enrolling our dog.. and it included nine e-mail attachments. yes, you heard right, nine I had a brief look at them just before but will read them properly tonight.
  20. the larger chicken necks he takes maybe 5 minutes to chew through it... but I gave him a smaller one yesterday and he gulped it down in less than a minute ;)
  21. He's 4 months old now and has been teething for about 2 weeks. We started giving him chicken necks this week and he loves them. I was wondering what other bones could I slowly introduce into his diet? thnks
  22. We did puppy school for a few weeks with Bonnie's and felt they were only just so-so. The lady was a bit condescending (towards not just us but others in the class too) and there was no structure to the class which I didn't like. That's why I'm iffy about continuing with them.. I'll have a look into Southside though, thanks
  23. Husband talked me into waiting until the end of the week to pull him out of daycare. We will use the weekend to ease him into 'being alone' and depending on how he goes I may take a half day on Monday and come home early. Jaeger will only be left at home alone 3 days a week. My cousin has offered to drop in every few hours to check on him but I'm not sure if that's a good idea.. I'm worried he'll be so excited to see him that he won't settle down properly after he (my cousin) leaves. What do you guys think?
