My boy gets a mild case of hives on his back sometimes. At first I thought it was food related but the vet says it's seasonal (grass, pollens, etc). I don't treat it since it's not serious (they go away by themselves fairly quickly) You can see the bumps on his back here:

Holistic large breed puppy was my first choice but I couldnt find it anywhere in Brisbane so that's why I purchased the regular EP. Do you think I can feed EP holistic adult varieties to a puppy? Will have a look at Nutro, thanks.

Thank you for the information FTPO I have cut down his kibble to 1.5 cups this morning and have added pumpkin and some carrot to it too. Will do this over the next couple of days and see how he does

Has anyone else's dog had bulky poos while fed on EP? I gradually switched my weimaraner over to EP large breed puppy from Proplan last week. On Proplan he had small, firm non-smelly poos but I wasn't happy with how he was growing which is why I switched him to EP. His poos on EP have been bulky, smellier and a bit softer than usual. I can't understand why the better quality ingredients would make them worse? He is 6 months old, 28kg and is fed 2 cups twice a day, mixed with pumpkin. He also gets chicken frames and other bones during the week. I will feed semi BARF eventually but my first goal is to find a good kibble for him. thasnks in advance

I just looked on the website and it said the protein content for the large breed puppy was 42%.. is this right? It sounds really really high (EP has just 23% and others I've looked at have about 27-28%)

Eaglepack Holistic Select Large Puppy
jaegertheweim replied to Hunter_Weim's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
sorry I don't mean to hijack your thread but I couldnt get EP holistic large breed puppy so I bought the regular natural formula large breed puppy instead. started the switch last week from Proplan and will have him entirely on EP by the end of the week. He's been having really bulky poos though and I know it isnt the Proplan because he has small solid poos on it alone. Is it the combination of the two that's causing the bulkiness? -

I use Fido's Oatmeal and Baking Soda. It says it's soap free on the bottle -
what are charcoal biscuits for?

that must be it because I was reading that excess iron in humans can cause green poops. will have to cut back then, thanks!

Proplan (but we're switching) Nope, havent fed them any Greenies

hmm.. Jaeger eats grass sometimes but I've never seen Roma do it. I haven't seen then do it lately either (and they are always supervised when outdoors)

What does it mean when a dog's poop has a distinct green tinge? Both my dogs had it yesterday... and my younger one had it a few weeks back too. They are on the same brand food but different varieties. Apart from kibble, the only other foods they both eat are marrow bones (once a fortnight) and liver treats (2-3 pieces a day). They are otherwise healthy (and have normal brown poos) but I'm just a little curious as to what causes this

Proplan Feeding Guide?
jaegertheweim replied to saintlysusan's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
http://www.proplan.com/products/Performance_DryDog.html Scroll over where it says Daily Feeding Instructions on the right -
It started seeping so we took him to the vet yesterday. The vet was stumped.. said he had never seen anything quite like it. Couldn't have been a bug bite or something self-inflicted or caused by another dog as it didn't have those characteristics. In the end we came to the conclusion that it was a questionable spider bite. He got a cortisone shot, some cortisone cream and some antibiotics. Hopefully it will heal up soon!

What Is Your Dog Allergic To?
jaegertheweim replied to laffi's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I think Jaeger is allergic to corn. The new food we switched him to (Proplan) has it and he's broken out in hives on his back -
After keeping a close eye on him the last few days, we are pretty certain it's caused by a food allergy. I've read that corn is a very common food allergen for dogs, and it just so happens to be the 3rd ingredient in Proplan. Bonnie which he used to eat didn't have any corn in it (and he had no allergies then) I rang Purina earlier and they are reluctant about giving a refund.. saying that they'd rather send me a replacement bag of something else instead. A little annoying since the bag clearly states that they offer a money back guarantee

My weimaraner has been getting hives on his back on and off since he finished moulting last week. They don't seem to bother him as he hasn't been scratching but I am wondering what they could be caused by... possibly: new food - he started Proplan large breed puppy about 2 weeks ago. likes it and has better (solid, non-stinky) poops bug bites - lots more things flying and crawling around here now that it's summer How do I go about determining what it's caused by? (I think it is the food and may use this as an excuse to switch to Eaglepack).

My dog has had a sore on his ear for almost 2 weeks now. I can't remember how he got it but it looks fairly superficial and even though it bled a little at first the blood clotted fairly quickly and it seemed like it was healing quickly. Problem is he's so clumsy that each time it starts to heal up, he nips it on something and the scab falls off. Have been applying a little bit of topical antiseptic cream on it so that it doesnt get infected. Is there anything else I could put on it to help speed up the recovery? (Husband suggested taking him to the vet tomorrow but I thought I'd ask here first) Thanks in advance
