Pro Plan Feeding Amounts?
jaegertheweim replied to saintlysusan's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Here you go: http://www.proplan.com/products/Performance_DryDog.html It's on the right hand side under the image of the bag -
Based on this: http://www.caninesports.com/SpayNeuter.html and my breeder's advice, I will be waiting till he is around 14 months to neuter my large breed pup

I caught one chewing on the chain wire on his run. I've applied cribox/crib stop to it and hopefully that will deter any further chewing but when I looked at his teeth I noticed that some of the enamel had already worn off his canines.

do bones help with enamel loss?
-
ahh I see! sounds like fun
-
correct me if I am wrong but don't you have to wait until 12-18 months before you can start agility?

I read here that fluoride treatment can be beneficial for decreasing sensitivity caused by loss of enamel. Has anyone used a topical fluoride treatment on their dogs before? What product did you use and would you recommend it? thanks!

Is It Safe To Give Dog Human Anti-histamines?
jaegertheweim replied to StaceyB's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I've given my dog Polaramine before. I found this web page to be very helpful when I was trying to determine what dosage to give him: http://www.ingleburnvet.com.au/antihistamines.htm -
Sean Kirkpatrick Dog Obedience
jaegertheweim replied to jaegertheweim's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
yep, that's the one -
We poked it back in whenever we saw it sticking out. That's what both our breeder and vet told us. And they also said that if it didn't go away by itself that it could be fixed when he is desexed.
-
Our pup had one too and we just pushed it in and eventually it went away by itself

Hi I'm after feedback from others about this dog trainer who holds obedience classes at Mt Gravatt showgrounds on Tuesday nights. Thanks!

Feeding Giant/large Breeds
jaegertheweim replied to Legacee's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'm not a breeder but I feed my wei Eagle Pack holistic select large/giant breed puppy. He's doing really well on it - growing nicely and having good solid poos. I've also fed the regular EP large/giant breed puppy (purple bag) but prefer the Holistic one (green bag) Before that I fed Proplan large breed puppy which I didn't really like this My breeder's rec was Bonnie Puppy and while he thrived on it, it gave him soft and bulky poos which I wasn't happy with As you can see I've had some kibble issues in the past but have now found the right one for my pup. I guess it's all a matter of trial and error! -
I came home from work this afternoon and noticed Roma was standing strangely on her back legs. She was reluctant on her walk (she usually runs around when we get to the oval but not today) and she has also been yelping. How likely is it that it's arthritis? She is a Lagotto and will be 8 in July I will book her in to see the vet tomorrow but just wanted to get some opinions here first. edit to add- I will discuss treatment options after we receive a diagnosis but in the mean time, what can I do to make her more comfortable? Should I stop taking her for walks?

You guys are a wealth of information! Breeder's advice was to just use fingers and pluck gently.. I tried it again this morning but I couldnt tell if I was doing it right. I've booked her in for an appointment this Saturday. Hopefully the groomer can give me a quick lesson and next time I can just do it myself thanks!
-
She used to be shown so she's used to all the primping and prepping.. but her ears are extra sensitive so I feel bad about doing them myself. I am willing to try again if I can find something that will numb the pain a little.. do you have any suggestions? thanks
-
Our breeder recommended that we pluck our Lagotto's ears regularly. I have tried it a few time with my fingers but poor thing yelps like she's being tortured Have decided that it's best to leave it to the professionals! 2 questions- 1. What groomer in Brisbane would you recommend? (would prefer southside but can travel if needed) 2. How much should I expect to pay for just a pluck and clean? Thanks!

My pup has a problem with bones sometimes too..most of the time he will throw them up, otherwise he'll get the runs from them. We don't give him bones often now so instead I give him a nylabone to chew on and brush his teeth once-twice a week.

you might find this useful: http://www.caninesports.com/SpayNeuter.html my breeder gave me a copy of the article in our puppy pack

thanks guys. I'll definitely be switching them over to Advantix now

This thread is mainly for other DOLers in and around Brisbane. Do you use a tick preventative on your dog/s? I haven't been since it was never brought up by my vet (our last visit was months ago before I started actively participating on here) but after reading on the internet that we are prone to ticks up here in QLD, I am considering switching my two over from Advantage to Advantix. I live on the southside in a suburban area and my dogs are kept as indoor dogs and are only allowed outside under supervision. Is it better for me to be safe than sorry? Look forward to hearing your replies

Not counting puppies his age at pre-school, my boy had his first socialisation with my friend's 1yo shih-tzu at 10 weeks of age and later her 7yo dacchie and 12yo rottie at 11 weeks old. He had only had his first set of shots during these play dates so what I did probably goes against what the recommendations are but I trusted my friend and knew that her dogs were vaccinated and healthy. Plus it was very important to me to socialise my dog well when he was young so I always made sure it was done carefully.
