  1. After a few bad experiences, I don't go to off leash parks anymore. There have been a couple of instances of small dogs being mauled and killed at parks around the area Also my dogs contracted canine cough twice after people brought their dogs to the park with "just a cold" Not worth the hassle.
  2. Huge congratulations in order after your ordeal The babies are beautiful and 4 of each is excellent.
  3. Congratulations to all with litters so far Beautiful babies!
  4. I have heard a similar story about a breed exhibitor who always wore a particular colour.. and how all the other exhibitors in that breed turned up in it at one show. Judge didn't know who to pick. Love it! Yeah face judging happens quite a bit....but you also hear exhibitors say "oh that judge is so facey" but in reality it is not face judging just a better example of the breed being put up.
  5. I totally agree! I don't know why everyone is replying ;)
  6. Yes I've done the same - posted to FB, sent all my victorian friends the invite to the FB page and flocked the new's link. Thoughts are with owners and others involved with these dogs!
  7. http://www.dogsnsw.org.au/activities-a-events/showing-your-dog.html This should provide some answers
  8. This thread should be called German Shepherds due in October ;) Congratulations to everyone expecting puppies!
  9. Totally agree with you Allerzeit. IMO pups need to be feeding from mum which produces the hormone to help with her mothering instincts. Restrain her and put the pups on and hopefully she'll come around in a couple of days.
  10. Doesn't sound like swimmer pups to me You can't miss a swimmer rib cage once it's formed, it's the opposite of what it should be. Flat where it should be coming to a ridge in the middle and pointed edges at the sides.
  11. Whoops I really did well didn't I! Sorry Sir Sniffalot, I didn't realise how many mouths to feed! Just saw how many pups your girl had in the August thread. Congratulations on your litter!
  12. I'm sure they would be planning for the bitch to return to them for whelping and raising of the litter if they are responsible breeders ;)
  13. Before resorting to supplementary feeding I would at least try the following: I would try putting all the pups on every hour for 24 hours minimum. It's round the clock and exhausting but at least you will have done everything you can to build up her supply. Ensure you put all the pups on together and rub their back up and down to keep them sucking hard. You need to ensure your girl is eating and drinking as much as possible while you are trying to increase the amount of milk she is producing. In most cases, supply equals demand and this is the case in all mammals. Good luck Edited: Sorry just realised you are already hand raising so would be even harder to build up her supply from this point.
  14. BIG 4 - Karen Mangan's beagle "Gun" woohoo! Don't know the rest yet.
  15. OMG what a unbelievable transformation Just look at his coat I've shed a few tears also reading this thread. When you see these poor oldies that have obviously been in real pain, uncared for and unloved for many years, they just break your heart. Mack looks to be so deserving of your care and devotion Cathy. Your a bloody champion and an angel
  16. Was anyone taking random photos that you know of?
  17. Macey has recently become terrified of electronic beeping. She shakes and hides in the walkinrobe. Flying - the minute she see's the airline crate go into the car that's the end of her. Bob whilst in the car is scared of overhead bridges, roads etc on the freeway in particular. He can be sitting in the front seat and when he sees one overhead through the windscreen he ducks and hides down behind the seat. He also hates to be walked in the dark. He's very suspicious of people (not normally) and acts like they are out to get him.
  18. Most of the beagles breeders I know sell puppies for around the $1000 mark and it's the same for pets or show "potential" puppies. It seems a bit ridiculous at times! We spend an alot of money on importing semen, stud fee, freighting bitches wherever they may have to go in Australia. Not to mention the time and effort that goes into caring for our girls and their puppies, socialisation, etc, then you see unpapered beagle puppies for sale in a pet shop for several hundred dollars more
  19. Ruby. Feminine but not sissy. Also like Fanta!
  20. ....the worst thing about this - the sort of parents that let their kids run wild with little care about what they get up to or worry that they could get hurt, are the ones that will try to sue or at the very least abuse you if you hurt their child, even if it was unavoidable and not your fault. Shakes head!!!
  21. Our dogs sleep on our beds and we don't have problems with dominance. Training is what it is all about and in our case show training and conditioning is enough to keep them in line. For example things like having to get their nails cut, grooming, standing still when told, having their mouth examined, etc the list goes on. No they are not babies, they are dogs - but sleeping on our beds and cuddling up to us on the couch doesn't give them the upper hand in our house ;) Back to the topic. I agree, expert advice is a must particularly with such a young child involved. It's a shame because you have obviously been sensible and careful with the grandchildren and your dogs.
  22. Awesome! I've seen some of his work before but not this video! Thanks
  23. We have a Rural Bookshop out of our offices in Sydney (Nth Richmond). They currently have the book selling for $140.00 including P&H. https://www.ruralbookshop.com.au/book_detail.asp?product_id=3442&producttype_id=1
  24. I should say - the best treatment that I know of.
  25. Optimmune is the best treatment for dry eye but fairly expensive at around $75. On twice a day treatment this will last around 5 weeks (I think). One of my beagles developed dry eye about 18 months ago and I have been using the ointment morning and night to begin but I have found I only need to use it now once a day now. I will be taking him to the vet soon to have another tear test as I feel I may be able to use it even less frequently. Initially another vet perscribed a cheaper ointment (can't remember the name) that was around $38 but it was not very good. It controlled infection and lubricated but didn't really treat the problem which is immune related. If you get the Optimmune and it is hot weather, put it in the fridge for a couple of minutes before use. This firms up the ointment and saves wastage. Really I wouldn't recommend the cheaper option.
