  1. I got a freind who left her entire girl with me, and she came in, which is fine, we were expecting it, shes a little late...

However its brought MY girl in as well, who only had a (weird) season just 2 months ago!

    This is the interesting bit..

NO bleeding.. swollen just a tiny bit and my alpha boy has been chasing her around for a few days, but as there was no bleeding, before or now I havent worried too much, thought he might be confused, with the other girl in season and standing..

But then i found another of my boys trying to hump her, she was paying him no attention, it just caught me out the corner of my eye. None of the other boys have tried, and my alpha dog wasnt around her at the time. Im pretty confident she has NOT been mated. shes not flagging, no sign of any behaviour that might make me think she is coming in...

Her last season (her first) was fine, then i let her out with the boys 4.5 weeks AFTER the start, she immediatly stood and flagged every male, so she went back into confinement for another few weeks.

any suggestions? Do you think she might be coming in earlier? (hope not as shes only now 9 months old)

  2. Ive had all 3.. ...

First litter, singleton, born naturally, but stillborn....

Second litter, singleton, born via C section on emergency

Another one had singleton, we xrayed 2 days before due date to estimate if would fit through, she went into very quick labor and ended up at vets 2 hours before the booked time to C section her.

all but the stillborn survived, all had had litters before, all were good mums (to around 5 weeks)

average litter size in my breed is 2-3.

  3. I have poms...

    And i didnt vote....

Mainly cos I live in NZ so it wouldnt REALLY affect us, BUT Im not sure a spitz group is the way to go... Poms are in the toy ring, as they were bred for companions, lap dogs, although they were used to herd sheep, when they were larger poms, for over 100 years they have been bred for companions.

Not sure what a sibe would do if a pom got off its lead and took off... least in the toy ring the other dogs are generally similar size. But would be interesting, however I will make do with going to spitz shows :)

  4. In new Zealand for poms.. trade me have lots from around $350 NZD up to $1,200 for pet shop ones.. quality is TERRIBLE!

to get a half decent one, will cost you at least $1,000 upwards. (although one breeder does sell hers cheaper)

for show? LOL.. depends if you want to win or not.. if not, then the 1k, if you do, then you have to go to our top breeder, who has beautiful poms. Shes not cheap, but hers are all imported AND she is one of the few who health test.

Or you import from aus, if you can find a breeder :)

Takes a bit to get established, in show pomeranians here in NZ if you want to do well.

  5. I had a black titled bitch to rehome.. she was gorgeous, jsut stunning, and met a couple who thought they could get over *her bad colour*... they wanted a red pom, and a red pom was all they wanted.. I explained blacks were common and desired in our breed, to keep the colour rich.. but all they could see was black was a bad colour (if it was so bad then why did she make her championship title)

My gorgeous black was ideal in EVERY way.... they met her and fell in love with her... then rang a few days later and said no, we want a red, let us know when you have a red adult champion dog for rehoming.

i actually did say "sure, ill jsut defrost one" but they didnt get it. As far as i know they are still looking.. If they ever contact me again I wont have anything, if they are that stuck on colour what happens if the dog starts to go a bit grey around the muzzle.... Colour is last thing i breed for, health is so much more important.

regardless, my adorable wee black girl met a elderly lady who came to a show and they laid eyes on each other and that was that.. she now is so pampered, I told her that when i die I want to come back as her dog!

  6. Yes that is true, i was just wondering if they search that far so as there are not double ups. I was thinking there are a lot of databases to check if that is the case. I have found one i like but it is a NZ prefix so i scrapped that idea so hopefully my second or third choice will be okay. Really just curious as to how the process actually works

You can contact the NZKC to see if the prefix is a financail kennel, they have ones there that havent been used for centries it seems lol.. You can also apply for that prefix here, if you are a NZKC member, sometimes if the kennel is not active they can direct you, its worth a shot if you really want it!

Id not want someone to have same kennel name as me, esp in same breed, but diff country...

  7. Did you state no refunds?

Personally, Id pay back, unless it was for a nominal amount, such as what it would cost me to readvertise the pup.

Some have a no refund policy in place, if you change your mind, good bye money.. however if something was wrong with the pup, that deposit is for the first available suitable puppy. (such as a pet deposit on a singleton litter, pup died, the next available dog for a pet HAS to be offered to that buyer, at the same price as original unless you are offering and they accept a show quality if you charge diff prices)

gods its long winded isnt it?

  8. I bought a BBQ cover for when it rains :

OMG what a great idea! I am going to steal that ok? lol

A waterproof (NOT) came with the trolley but its pretty horrid... the only water it keeps out is that rain that comes down on a sunny 40degrees outside. In fact Im suspicious it actually attracts rain and invites it in...

I made my own covers but I didnt get into sides, just 1 length and velcroed over the trolley top. I want to do diff colours so I can match suits, trolley cover, leads, etc.. BUT im so crafty i want more than just a plain one.. I had thougth about Xstitching pom heads on it... this of course before i ever made the first one... My one goes around the 3 sides and leaves all 4 doors open, i didnt want to cover it, when i should have thought YES i do.. lol.. but then i was thinking of matching curtains so i can match thier curtains to thier bed in it... OCD much? lol

  9. Its around 400-500, having just had it done to a dog I brought into NZ.

This is for the B test? Has to be done 10 days before flight... If the dog is for a show home make sure you tell the vet DO NOT SHAVE! They will often shave as its easier for them, but bad for us exhibitors! lol.. They can easily get the bloods without shaving.

  10. makes me mad when ppl bring thier cutsey wootsie lil designer mongrel who happens to be a bitch, who happens to be in season...

and they wonder why we go ballistic at them? are they looking for a free mating- dont care who the stud dog is!

Has happened to me quite a few times, cos i got poms they tend to hang around me,

waiting just waiting.... makes me mad.......they just have NO idea!

otherwise, im sick of the designer breed ppl banging purebreds cos we 'all inbreed and dont care bout healthy dogs'.. hello, having same prefix does not mean inbred, and id like to see them do thier health tests! Yes, its great you bring your ridgyoodle along but dont lecture me on how to breed....

other than that, i have no problem.. Quite a few of the toy ppl have rescues, etc, and good for socialisation... sometimes we end up having a mix we have rescued and they get exposure to someone who is looking and doesnt mind a mystery of a background.

Id rather see a ban on some owners than the dogs lol

  11. Just had a call from a lady who owned some poms... The last little girl they had 'sadly' died when she got pregnant, to her sisters pom, as her boy wouldnt do 'that', and one day they seen legs sticking out the girls bottom.. they 'rushed' her to the vets but she died.

But its ok, her other boy is so gorgeous, hes really tiny at 5kgs! (keeping in mind the standard states males up to 2kgs). they have little kids but the kids dont really interact with the dogs, they are good owners, if someone comes and the dogs are on the counch they arent allowed to sit down or move the dogs...

    Im thinking.. O.M.F.G.

    whats your worst?

  12. Wouldnt stop face judging, as Judge A will say I am judging at such a show.. so Exhibitor B will say Oh, Ill go along then:).

Exhibitor C enters and finds out its His ex wife who tried to poison him....

Exhibitor D travels 174 hours on a plane to find out its the same (&*%# judge who ruined her dog a year ago, by hurting it so badly the pup had to have its teeth put back in....

Exhibitor E has a BIS grand champ 1876 times over. and hasnt shown for last 3 years as she was on life support... cos of .. um.. she got stabbed by a chewing gum wrapper.. so she bowls up, and gets knocked down for this 3 legged gas stove.. with a wonky head.. and its tail was a feather duster.

You will have 4 diff people very angry.

Exhibitor B is angry cos um.... she lost her favourite shoe...

*heads off to find more childrens books*

  13. Im still a relative newbie, despite having a few in groups and a in show award behind me, (guess I really ought to move up to intermediate shower now) and have seen some shocking results.

One judge seemed to be in a sexual relationship with one woman, whom he kept coming up right behind her(you couldnt slide a piece of paper between them) and shuffling her along(giggling like a school girl which she def was not). despite the fact her dog did not walk at all, it won BOB (with over 10 other dogs entered) and then still not walking, got in line up for best of group and won a in age in show.

I just wont show under him again.

At another show, the judge asked the exhibitors of the next group NOT to show thier dog if they have shown in her first group.. They were given time to find handlers. When i was watching her, i seen her send a few exhibitors out of her ring, same people who had shown under her in the first group. First time I had seen that, and i asked someone and they said a judge will do that so not to be biased or called face judging.

I see it most in my countries judges... dont often show under them.

I dont mind been beaten by a better dog, but i DO mind been beaten because Im not someone else! I always told my friends if they judge my breed, I will not be showing under them.

  14. good judges-most likely international ones

grounds where i am not in risk of breaking my ankle again or loosing my poms in the holes in the ground

ones where they have mown at least in last week.. have seriously shown on grass so long my dogs not only couldnt walk, in some places in the ring it was higher than they are.

catering-although now im a diabetic this is not applicable, but if we got the kids its great to say heres some money, go treat yourself

gundogs WAY away from the toys, no offense but at every show its the gundogs who are having a go at our toys.

would be better to put the toys way away from the other rings, yes i know they yap and stuff but when show after show after show its the gunnies who are antagonising our dogs or are peeing on our crates, -theres a huge diff on a pom spraying on our crate compared to a lab... not saying all gunnies are like this, but ive seen it time and time again. again, no offense, and ive met some GREAT gunnies at some shows.-but its always the same people-

stalls and prizes for best of breed. the only time i can guarantee NOT to be chosen for best of breed is when they have prizes.

again its not the prize, its the thought. Id be happy with a pen or a torchlight, one show gave away one vial of a flea treatment-great stuff! even if its a voucher for a dog roll, i like to give those to independant rescuers.

great atmosphere, with room to move is fantastic :thanks:

ardmore is too cramped for a all breeds inside-the noise is overwhelming too, but they usually have great judges and a BOB over tough competition makes it all worthwhile

  15. better than what the whippet guy done behind us today in puppy sweepstakes, and pick up leaves and throw them on my uber-excited 1st time in the ring OMG-a LEAF-bounce-bounce ON my dog.

he could have thrown them to the side, but no, right in front of him, ONTO my dog.

Id have prefered a squeaky toy, he would have turned but OMG he looks a treat when hes into something...

  16. they get...

    Papers

copies of parents champion status (although if they see the original i wont give copies)

a breed information handout i made

    bed

    blanket

food and water bowl (not a cheap plastic, i get funky nice ones)

    toys

food (usually a bag of food)

bottle of water they are used too (to help ease any huge upsets if they are going to a diff town)

    lead

    grooming kit

    pet insurance for 6 weeks

usually a knitted jersey for when they are puppies and go through the uglies

    photos and info from birth

books that i lend them on the breed

    bag of treats

worming and flea stuff for next couple of months.

anything else i can think of

If they dont want what i have brought, i either take it back or they ae welcome to give it away to any independant rescuers, i usually prefer this and will find someone in thier town that they can donate the stuff too.

  17. Im so sorry for your loss.

I have heard quite often of bitches going on to have a successful second litter.

A ex-freind with chinese cresteds had hers a week early, but they all survived, her second litter they all died. the second litter was on time!

Good luck with her, and Im sure she will give you some beautiful pups next time

  18. not bonding? more than likely means we cant be arrrrzed looking after her since shes not a cuty cuty puppy and now a big doggy thats been misbehaving and stuffed if we are going to go through the teens with her.

you offered 3/4 back, i wouldnt have!

A bonding period doesnt take almost 4 months! you know in a couple of weeks if it will work out or not....

Good on you however for taking her back

  19. Im pleased the buyer has asked bout health but as for a guarantee?

No vet can guarantee health, but she shoudl take the pup to her own vet for a check-out as part of purchasing it.

Id state that parents health tests for heriditary problems were done, and if pup develops a HEREDITARY problem then there is a come-back for her, such as replacement pup or refund of purchase price.

Can you imagine if she wants it to cover everything, such as parvo? eating bones? tics?

TBH ive never come across someone wanting a guarantee, they only want to know if the parents have been tested.

I think the buyer just wants some sort of guarantee she wont be 'left in the dark' if something does happen, but thats down to trust, she might be one relationship you need to nurture, not to become BFF but one where she can trust you alittle..

    good luck!
