The Least Expensive Super Premium Food
holly replied to DobermanDave's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
HI DoberDave I have not read the rest of the replies, as I am doing this on the fly, but I did a cost comparism and found Advance Breeders Bags the most cost affective. If you want to PM me I can give you details. I have all of mine on this. One has allergies and was put on to Euk FP, but at over $110 for 13kg and being a very active country dog was looking terrible, I found the Large Breed Advance has worked wonders with all of them and 20kg at $95 is far cheaper, you can get a frequent buyers cards with Advance too, where the 9th bag is free. -
This for poor little Max, Alibear is such a bully

You can buy the drops at most produce stores, online stores like vetproductsdirect.com.au and pet shops that don't sell live animals
-
yes sounds good to me, maybe buy some Leo's and some canker drops, just to be on the safe side, it wont hurt him and is affordable, you can buy both online.

My girl digs out when we are not home too and is as happy a pig in mud then too, lol. I don't think it is a boredom thing or similar, I think it has something to do with where they enjoy being. Knew someone that kept a young pup in a compound down the middle of the backyard and couldn't work out why the pup cried and barked all night, hello!! then they got one of those running lines, something I would never have suggested for apuppy, tethered her to the veranda where she could smell and hear her humans through the night and she barked no more. Your boy could be getting cranky in the frontyard as he is overguarding his new boundry. Legally you have to keep him around the back by the sounds of it, but I dont' think it is a mental illness creeping in. I wish you luck, you should see the big logged I had drag up from the bush this morning so the Mrs couldn't get out while we are at work adn then have her young friend bark and cry because she is lonely and wants to be with her. dogs!

So Alibear going by those photos, were they up for sometime, or just when he lifted his head one way and they were gravity fed? If they stood up like they have in those pics for sometime regardless of whether his head tilted to the left or right, then give him more time. A pup I bought had soft ears the left more then the right, she was found to have a mild ear infection at 5 months Suralon and Leo ear cleaner applied daily for a fortnight and they were both up, thou the left was always a bit soft but still erect, she failed hips, so didn't matter, our friends that adopted her love her. I realise that you are not wanting to breed and I know a GSD is really a GSD if they have two erect ears, going by what people associate GSD's with, but as Kitkat said, the soft ear will not matter and you will still need to clean weekly as you would erect ears i am sure the teeth are fine, you would notice the missing teeth if they were there Holly

LOL, Springergirl

Kitkat, my old girl will dig out of any yard I put her in, so she can be where she wants to be, in our front yard and then onto the lounge at night, maybe he is just happier in the frontyard, I suppose you can not leave him in there? Does your young boy harress him?
-
Alibear, the teeth need a small gap between, but not enough to fit a finger through, unfortunately, some lines produce missing teeth, I had one dog that had three missing teeth, as to I found out later, his grandsire, he found a loving pet home. I do not agree on taping dogs ears that are for breeding later as the problem is inherited and there will be some sucker then that will be none the wiser, buy a hopeful show dog, that develops soft ears and find themselves dogless for the ring. But for a pet if you are so concerned about erect ears then have them taped, the pup I had with soft ears, got really upset about the taping, imagine having things shoved in your ear, even a bit of wax can send some of us and our dogs into a spin, I threw away the tape and if they came up they came up, they never did, but , his sire also had his ears taped and noone knew but the breed has enough problems without adding more to them, he also had bilateral UAP so the soft ears were the least of his problems. It is only a cosmetic fault and wont affect the love your pup has for you, but you already knew that.

When you went to the vet last, did he check his ears to make sure they were healthy inside? He has probably finished his teething, so it can't be teething. some pups do have softer ears for longer then others, if they have come before then they should do so again. You can try giving him bones etc to chew, this can strengthen the facial muscles adn also help with ear carriage. Ester C can help with loose ligaments, it may also help soft ears. Contact your pups breeder or the GSDC in your state, they may know of someone that can tape the ears for you, but the taping can be distressing and in the end, weigh up if it is worth it? If he is your loving companion, a soft ear will not hurt him, nor affect him in anyway, there many GSD's with soft ears adn it makes them look even more adorable and special. They are just my thoughts.
-
I have found with GSD's it mainly bought about by allergies and mine get hotspots when fed certain foods and will have a flair up within 24 hours and the hotspot to die, within 24 hours of the food not being fed. Fleas and enviroment are another cause. Hot spots, like the eyes is a great indication of how well the dog is on the inside.

Inspector REx You and Maggie are in our thoughts, I hope things pick up for you both. Can I please ask something here? A friends dog was diagnosed with I.B.S last year, just over the last few days, they have noticed the dog vomiting chocolate coloured vomit, no the dog has not eaten anything of that colour, they are organising some meds, but just wondering if your dog had vomit such as that too? Hugs to you Holly and family

Hi Fifi from my supplier it is frozen, as there is not too much call for it up my way, all raw foods, with the Weaner it states that you start off with 600g of food for 30kg active dog and increase/decrease when needed The distributer is in Northgate Qld, I am guessing they are the manufacturer too, it looked good, as I said I have not tried it yet
-
I was at my local produce store yesterday, if you want something he has not got, he will order it in, he is a great doggy friend  anyway, he is now stocking Big Dog food, it is a complete dog food, made from BARF, including fruit and vegies, they have no website yet, but I do have an email address for them, PM if you want it, they have The Edge, for performance dogs, Breeders Choice for puppies, Weaner which is an all in one diet and has roo and beef, crushed brisket bone, crushed vegies (carrots, broccoli, celery and spinach) beef fat, flaxseed, alfalfa and kelp powder The price with him was $5.25 for 2.5kg I can email you a scanned brochure if you need more info, if I had not just bought other things, I didn' have the heart to ask him to put it all back, I would have brought some and tried it. cheers Holly

Thanks for the timely reminder Louise, I was infected sometime ago and there is no cure for it, not even divorce thou I have not resorted that one yet -
It could the above, or your dog doesn't like the taste of Supercoat, mine will eat the stuff for a little while and then become fussy, get diarrohea etc, I don't feed it any more, in fact gave away a near full bag only recently, wont be bothered buying it any more, all of mine love what they get now, Advanced moistened with warm water and some meaty bones a few times a week

How To Reduce Scaring, Creams Etc ?
holly replied to Maverick's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yeah, I too had great results with Aloe Vera gel, with a horse that went through a barbwire fence, others had large scarring with the sort of injury, his was a thin pencil line, once healed -
I found it depends on what the test is for, mine would add any where from 20-100% depending, thou they still kept the unnecessary Factor 8 test down to $80, plus a consult , down the road it was $200!

At least you've managed to get your money's worth. The vast majority of the 6 - 8 week checks that most vets have given MY puppies in the past 20 years have been limited to a pat on the head, look in the mouth and/or ears (not usually both) and a fiddle between the legs in the case of a boy. THIS is where part of my difficulty in paying for a "consultation" comes about..... And before you all jump up and down and tell me to find a new vet.......I AM TRYING! Hi Ellz no my vet is great, he will help where he can and he will give a written report, I kid you not, on every puppy in the litter he examines, including weight. I am very happy with the service I receive and he is only a phone call or email away when I have a problem too. We have 6 clinics in town and I would only ever use three of them. One is an old style vet where he calls it as he sees it and doesn't allow emotion (getting owners to spend vast fortunes to drag out a dogs death for 6months) to get in the way, another that is very knowledgeable, thou can be a $$$ and my vet, he now has an assistant who is excellent, we have a great working relationship within my clinic and they like my family doctor, are jsut that, my family vet Ellz, I understand fully, where you are coming from and if every breeder had the brains, know how and decency, I would say we shoudl all be allowed to self vaccinate, but sadly, there are those that ruin it for the honest majority
