  1. You're welcome! I thought it was great them explaining physiology and exertion too. This is what my husband and I have wracked our brains over for many years running dogs. How to get the best out of them
  2. You can watch the episode via Yahoo TV Eukanuba Extraordinary Dogs Episode 1
  3. My dogs don't digest brown rice very well so I stick to white rice. Does your dog have the runs?
  4. If her story is true, why hasn't her ex-partner been held accountable also?
  5. They were Alaskan Huskies. A task force has now been set up to investigate this tragedy http://www.theprovince.com/health/Sled+ope...l#ixzz1CpxGLEb5. Picture of Bob Fawcett in there. Sled dog tours in Whistler have now been suspended pending further investigation. What a nightmare If government authorities were looking for an excuse to ban sled dog sports, they certainly have fuel to do it now
  6. What worries me MP, is that it is a known fact that this isn't the first time he has performed such revolting acts. How on earth it was swept under the carpet before let alone he be able to hold the position he did on MWP is beyond me!! You can't convince me that Karen nor the other board members didn't know of his previous crimes or atleast 'heard the rumours' and investigated.
  7. The bastard who carried out these cullings is Bob Fawcett. Now I'm pretty sure that it is the same Bob Fawcett who is the VP of Mush With Pride - http://www.mushwithpride.org/Board_of_directors.htm. What a f#@*%n hypocrite and a coward!!! May he rot in hell :D http://www.calgarysun.com/news/columnists/...1/17104521.html - Link to news article from the Calgary Sun Edited to add: I've just been told by a friend in Canada that this isn't the first time he's done something like this
  8. This is Ruff. The newest addition to our kennel. No other colour but purple here
  9. I have 11 male dogs in my kennel. They all wear purple Collars, leads, racing harnesses, scooters, rigs, sleds - all purple
  10. In my yard, neither would last for very long! I know that some of my dogs would be O.K. with a small dog, under supervision, but there is not a chance in hell they would be left alone with it, or a chook, or a possum because let's face it, any of them would end up being dental floss very quickly. Would my dogs attack a small dog if they were to accidentally get out of our yards? I honestly don't know Can anyone be absolutely certain that their dog wouldn't do the same if unsupervised and roaming in a pack? Because if you think your dog is infallable, you are kidding yourself.
  11. I have lost count the number of times my dogs have been approached by unfamiliar children while they are staked out at races or demos, while they were eating. All the while, the parents stand back and encourage the children to 'pat the nice doggies'!! No doubt the parents think I'm a downright utter biartch after I lose it with them. But seriously, it's just plain common sense, is it not? We have a four year old child. Most days he helps me feed our dogs. He can put the bowls down, tell them to wait and then say 'O.K.' to signal them to eat. He then shuts the run door and moves onto the next. NEVER will he be allowed to do this unsupervised (well, maybe when he's close to being a teenager and it might be his job ) and NEVER will I allow him to pat the dogs or put his hand into their bowl while they are eating. That is my job, as pack leader, not my 4 year olds! I let all of the dogs out of their runs BEFORE Caleb is allowed to go back in and collect their empty bowls. Although I know in my heart of hearts that they would never do anything to him, it is never worth the risk. I would never forgive myself and I imagine that the parents of this poor little girl are feeling devastated. Something they will have to live with for the rest of their lives On a side note, we have friends over quite often who have dogs also. Their kids like to help me feed and they are very dog savvy. Funnily enough, the dogs will not eat if the other kids feed them. They wait for me to pick the bowl up, put it down again and then tell them "O.K.". Guess they know the deal!
  12. I am so so sorry to hear that persephone. It is absolutely gut wrenching. Big hugs for you And I'll double that sentiment - bloody snakes
  13. Well since posting back in November about Cooper catching the tiger snake in our house yard, we have had another tiger in the dog yard and on New Year's Eve, a dirty big brown snake in an enclosed area behind our house. Frack, frack, frack!!! Nothing we seem to be doing is deterring them although I do have my suspicions that these snakes have been in the yards since last summer and have been laying dormant. In effect, we have probably trapped them in The tiger snake was 'relocated' by four of our boys (thank God none of them were bitten) and the brown the other day was 'relocated' by my husband and I can tell you that it was a nasty buggar too. It was trying to climb up the shade cloth into the dog yard and had the dogs not alerted me to the fact that it was there, I probably would not have seen it. Our poor dogs are spending more and more time in their runs because I refuse to leave them out unsupervised. What else can I do?
  14. Spot on Cosmolo although I dare say not many people on here would be willing to admit that!
  15. Yes, Kathy is very good and she also has a Siberian related to my boys Congratulations MRJ We currently have 10 dogs and a 4 year old skin kid. When Caleb was born we had 6 dogs and never had any issues with acceptance. Ultimately, it's common sense that keeps issues to a minimum and so long as the routine doesn't change too much for your dogs when the baby arrives home, you should have a fairly easy time. Like others, my husband took Caleb's clothes home from the hospital each day and let them smell them. Any changes that were foreseen were done months prior so that the dogs were already into that routine by the time Caleb arrived home. Our dogs were absolutely brilliant with him, they still are but I never, ever leave them together unsupervised because as you know, a dog is a dog and things can happen. Enjoy this time. I know you will enjoy seeing the special relationship that your child will have with his/her dogs. It's just how it should be
  16. Let's hope it's not a lost cause and they actually listen to the advice. I know that if one of our puppies we had bred ended up displaying this behaviour, I would not only be mortified, but heartbroken as well.
  17. Lovemesideways - I hope you show your friend all of these responses to your post. It's not too late for them to get the help they so obviously need. I'm afraid that this pup will end up being a statistic if they don't.
  18. And therein lies the difference, you didn't let the old cow get away with that sort of behaviour. Neither would I! But these people are encouraging this young pup and it will not only be to their detriment but to the dog's as well when she attacks someone
  19. You know what, I doubt it has anything to do with the pup coming from a BYB unless the sire and dam were absolute shits of dogs! Going by what you have said and the fact that the owners have filmed this behaviour, sent it out to people and laughed about it, tells me it has alot to do with them. Sure a dog will guard a bone or it's own bowl against other dogs, that's natural. A pup that shows that amount of aggression towards it's humans, well, I hate to think what it will be like when it matures.
  20. The fact she is so young is what has me so worried! I would have though that because of their independent nature, something like resource guarding would be seen in sibes a bit. You say its not at all natural for a Sibe? I'm pretty sure they got this dog from a BYBer... Rarely have I seen it and when I have, it's been in rescue dogs that were abused or dogs that had dominated over their owners. I have owned three Mallies and eleven Siberians and NOT ONE of them has ever resource guarded where humans are concerned. I would die if any of my Sibes acted like that :D That pup needs to be taught some serious manners, better still, her owners need a boot up the backside for encouraging that sort of behaviour and probably need some serious training themselves!!
  21. Can I just say that if one of my Sibes, let alone a 16 week old pup displayed that kind of behaviour, they would not be living at my house! Aggression like that is not a trait of the breed and to be honest, I would be worried about what learned behaviour this pup has developed and why
  22. It's a bit easier to tell with a male if they've been desexed Our bitches were tattood, our dog was not.
  23. Poor baby Have you tried the Siberian Husky Club of Vic http://www.siberianhuskyvic.org.au/rescue/. I know they state that they only do rehoming now for club members, but it might be worth a shot?
